Who better than a professional project planner to help organize a community wide fundraising event?
It seems that Dion picked the perfect time to leave the corporate sector and return to his old neighborhood. His family's thriving restaurant is about to go mobile with the unveiling of a newly purchased food truck and the suggestion of new menu items provides the perfect theme for a series of tasting events. Coming home also means plenty of opportunities to spend time with his sister and her eclectic array of friends, including the exuberant Angel, who has captivated Dion since the first time they met through video chat.
Summer may get a whole lot hotter once they start working on the fundraiser together…but will the sparks burn bright enough to last past the season’s end?
LAYLA DORINE lives among the sprawling prairies of Midwestern America, in a house with more cats than people. She loves hiking, fishing, swimming, martial arts, camping out, photography, cooking, and dabbling with several artistic mediums. In addition, she loves to travel and visit museums, historic, and haunted places.
Layla got hooked on writing as a child, starting with poetry and then branching out, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. Hard times, troubled times, the lives of her characters are never easy, but then what life is? The story is in the struggle, the journey, the triumphs and the falls. She writes about artists, musicians, loners, drifters, dreamers, hippies, bikers, truckers, hunters and all the other folks that she’s met and fallen in love with over the years. Sometimes she writes urban romance and sometimes its aliens crash landing near a roadside bar. When she isn’t writing, or wandering somewhere outdoors, she can often be found curled up with a good book and a kitty on her lap.
Snarky—that's the word the main character used to describe the banter he liked and what sustained his existence in his found family. With a background in a bad relationship, family relationships ended with death and absence, he lived on the street and found others in similar situations. They formed a group that sustained and supported each other. These circumstances formed the background for this thickly populated, but aspiration driven desire to build a park for children in this neighborhood that has become their home. There's a Drag Queen diva, daddy-relationships for the found family of boys, and snark... shared, celebrated and well documented and presented by Layla Dorine.
But, the cast of characters is almost too much, and sometimes confusing, with day names, and night names being used.
Heartwarming is the adventure to build the park and the success of that, is greatly appreciated in the story.
It's not a lightly read book that one can put down for a bit and come back to. It takes something to keep up with all the bewildering characters and their connections.
There are other books in this series, and perhaps jumping to this one, as it was highly recommended, was not the best answer.
This was good, but I wish I had made notes about some of the characters as there was a rich set of them, some with two names.
I love these stories of this group of friends, that became brothers. I've read Ajay, Tiny, Shanny, and now Angel...can't wait for Billy's story. Angel is a hairstylist with a best friend who is a drag queen, named Bella. It's through Bella that Angel meets her brother, Dion. When Dion finally moves back home, to help with the family restaraunt, he can't wait to meet Angel face to face. Previously they've only met through zoom meetings, when Bella and Dion catch up. Angel and Bella are planning a communtiy event to sponsor the building of a splash pad for the kids in town. This isn't insta love, because Dion and Angel knew each other through computer, but finding they match in person, sweet. Once Ms Dorine is finished with Billy's story set for Halloween, I hope she bundles all these stories together in one volume, cause I'd love to read them a second time.
A DADDY FOR SUMMER SERIES IS SPECTACULAR!!! When Amazing Authors share ideas, series like this are born. Every Book is a standalone with the common theme being summer. LAYLA DORINE brought our Sweet Beautiful Menace, Angel. Dion is the lucky Papi. They are just what the other needed. Angel needed an understanding Daddy and Dion gave him everything he ever dreamed of. Wait til you see the Slip n' Slide Extravaganza!! All the gang is here. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS A DADDY FOR SUMMER SERIES!!!!!!!!!!
Can an Angel be perfect for what is needed? Can relationships replace family for enjoying time together?
When time has passed but friends and family have survived together, the best things are the times working together for the common and community good will and prosperity.
Things are never perfect, but if they can be manageable and acceptable, then why is perfection required? Just go with the flow and safely enjoy sharing the moment and the memories.
Well written story and well developed characters! Fantastic read! And, if you have kept up, then there is just one boy that is still single. Of course, there's Bella, too!
This was so good. I love the community coming together aspect. The beauty shop scene really moved me too. I do believe it takes a village. I hope we get Billy’s story.
Too much of a slow burn for me. Too much emphasis on the side characters. Got 50% through and lost interest because the book was so focused on everything except the two main characters.
