Mila is a witch who has spent her whole life ignoring that very fact. It was her mother’s dying wish that she never touch the power that lies coiled within.
Staying in the village is necessary.
Hiding among humans is safe.
When Mila’s plans to prove her good intentions to the villagers backfire, she must cross into a realm of deities, magia, and duplicitous gods with the desperate hope of finding an alternate solution. One that would secure her place amongst humankind.
But is anything ever exactly as it seems? Are the secrets and half-truths that shape her entire life truly for her benefit?
Perhaps the power she’d been instructed to reject wasn’t for her safety—but for everyone else’s.
This book is far more than a fantasy tale—it’s a quiet exploration of freedom, identity, and the invisible threads that shape who we become.
We follow Mila, a young witchling who longs for nothing more than to disappear into ordinary village life, to blend in and escape the weight of who she is. But her path leads her deep into a world of ancient gods, strange creatures, and unlikely friendships—all drawn from the rich tapestry of Slavic mythology. What begins as a simple desire to belong slowly unfolds into something far deeper: a meditation on the tension between fate and free will, and the cost of living a life shaped by others.
It leaves you wondering: What is a life worth, if it was never truly yours to shape?
The story is also filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep the journey engaging from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the surprises along the way and am looking forward to continuing Mila’s story in the next book, Halfblood.
A beautifully written, thought-provoking read that stays with you long after the final page.
This book is absolutely fabulous! You follow Mila through a journey of heartbreak and finding herself as she meets 3 fabulous friends along the way (all while getting your heart broken in the process). This book has so much action, adventure and many an amazing twist. There is also a small amount of kissing but nothing major (the perfect level for me). Be prepared to grin, laugh, cry and be shocked by the fabulous writing and plot. The inclusion of the Slavic folklore was also a welcome change from what I normally read. This book will definitely be in my top 3 for many a year to come. I highly recommend reading this book and watch out for the second book coming in February, I know it’ll be just as good!
This is an amazing book! It’s a perfect introduction into the world of fantasy books. This story has a good balance of adventure, magic, romance and plot twists. It’s enticing and captivating and will leave you wanting more. Definitely recommend and am extremely excited for book 2.
So grateful to the author for this chance to review such a unique book.
It took a little while in the beginning to wrap my mind around the Slavic terms and folklore, but it was such a breath of fresh air to read a unique historical fantasy!!
The FMC is filled with self doubt and a desire to be accepted by the humans in her village.
The relationships she develops and the plot twists along the way are so gripping and exciting.
Great example of a romantasy book! Excellent Slavic mythology references. Exciting story that unfolds in a fast pace. Lovable characters. The writing is 5/5. Cannot wait for more books in this series!!
I liked this one! It took me a little bit to get into the story but I was hooked about 25% of the way through. Lots of time inside Milas head and her anxiety was palpable. I loved her growth throughout the journey and thought the story was really unique. Also “my witchling” i died dead
A brilliant blend of fantasy, slavic folklore, and romance!
I really enjoyed this story about a young witch trying to find her place in the world of suspicious humans, strange customs, deities, and power-hungry gods.
I really hope book two comes quickly because that ending needs more! :)
