The heroine: Jovie - her mother was murdered by her stepfather; she was raped the first time she snuck out to go to a party and left unconscious on a frat house lawn. She attempted suicide by pills and slitting her wrists. All of that happened before the shadow came into her life. It would always disappear when she looked directly at it but she could often see it out of the corner of her eye, whether she was in her room or outside somewhere. She has a twin sister, Lennon, but never told her about the shadow. She attends college during the day and works as a piercer at a tattoo parlor at night, and she never told anyone about the shadow.
The Story: one day on her way home from work, she started to get a clearer glimpse of the shadow out of the corner of her eye. She could see broad shoulders and a black hood and though it disappeared when she looked directly at it, she knew it wasn’t just a shadow. She knew it was someone, which was as intoxicating as it was frightening. Later that night, when she looked in the mirror, she saw more than just the shadow and she was able to look directly at it.
The Hero: Aether - a being who is doing his time in Hell. For the last three years since Jovie’s sorrow pierced through the darkness, he has been stalking her as a shadow entity from behind the veil between Hell and Earth. Every time she acknowledges him or thinks of him, he gets closer to breaking through the veil separating the worlds and claiming her as his. He has been starving for her for too long and now that she really saw him, he is getting close.
I really liked this story; it was fairly short, but it was different than anything I had ever read before. Aether was a different kind of paranormal entity than I have ever read about in the past. Of course, I do love stalker romance and he was quite a good stalker. The book was way too short, and this story could have been much more, but it was pretty great for what it was.
Being that Aether was from Hell, he dreamed about doing things to Jovie that were just wrong on every level, like doing sexual things when she while she fought back or when she couldn’t fight back, and when she was unaware. Though he also planned on killing her and eating her soul as a way to break his tether to Hell, so he was a pretty bad guy. Though I liked the fact that he had a change of mind at one point and I did like how the story progressed.

Головна героїня Джові Рей Тейлор - дуже травмована психологічно, адже ще коли вона була дитиною знайшла свою мертву маму в крові. Коли вона поступила в коледж і пішла на вечірку її накачали наркотиками і згвалтували.
Життя постійно било Джові і намагалось знищити, її єдиною підтримкою була сестра близнюка Леннон. Допоки одного разу в її житті з‘явилася якась дивна тінь, яка переслідувала її скрізь.
Ізер - тисячолітній проклятий демон, який хоче перетнути завісу між пеклом і людським світом. Для цього йому потрібно багато сил, а щоб накопичити ці сили він харчується емоціями Джові, а зокрема її страхом. Але цього недостатньо щоб обірвати зв‘язок з пеклом і повністю перейти завісу, тому він вирішує вбити і поглинути її душу.
Та чи все піде за планом? Три роки спостерігання і живлення емоціями Джові, та Ізер не помітив як прив‘язався до своєї смертної жертви…🖤🔥

This was a quick, fast-paced read! The FMC is haunted by a shadow that only she sees which does nothing to help her current mental state full of stress and past trauma. The MMC though? A ‘demon’ that feeds on her fear and is loving every second of it. And once he devours enough, he’s breaking through and coming for her. I really liked the obsessive nature of the MMC and especially loved the touch-her-and-die moment. This book is definitely focuses on darker themes so make sure to read CW/TW before reading.

jovie… oh my god. my heart fucking hurts for her. the things she went through was sickening. i wanted to actually commit homicide to the ones who just fucking assaulted her. they actually deserve to rot in hell 😡 her mental health and her story in general is just something i completely feel. i just want to hug her. she’s scared shitless especially after what she’s been through. but when aether pulls up 😩 this demon is doing time between hell and earth. and for the past few years he’s been stalking her as a shadow. whenever she thinks of him he gets closer to breaking through the wall that separates both worlds. even though he literally planned on killing her and eating her soul, dawg didn’t stop at anything to claim her and i’m all here for it 🥰
i enjoyed this story more than i thought i would honestly !! it was super quick and easy to catch on to. i love a stalker romance and this one hit the spot 🤌🏼

A dark romance with a healthy dollop of horror since Jovie, our fmc, spends the majority of the book scared shitless.
This shadow has been following her for the past 3 years, becoming stronger as the days pass. Finally, when Jovie is about to be assaulted, he resues her, which she was not expecting, and neither was our mmc, Aether.
Although this book was short, just over 100 for me, it still felt like it dragged with nothing happening for far too many pages; needless info was given that didn't add to the story. Still, I did enjoy it for the unique premise.

I devoured this one! Jovie is seeing things out of the corner of her eye, something that's been following her, but whenever she tries to look directly at it, it disappears. Aether is consumed by Jovie, he will do whatever it takes to have her.
It's a little on the darkish side, but there's also a sweet side. I'd love more of these two! This one is short and to me it is a HFN ending and could see the potential for more!

This is a short but very engaging read.
I loved the characters, and the sense of mounting dread throughout the story was done so well that I was literally on the edge of my seat for half of it.
Jovie gets the most page time so I definitely feel like I bonded with her better and know a lot more about her, but that was necessary for the story the way it was. While I do wish we had seen more of our shadowy villain, not having that connection to him really helps to build the suspense so I more than understand why it was done this way.
It's definitely not the darkest romance you're ever going to read but that's not the point of it. It's a great, mid darkness level, book with suspense for days and if R.K. ever decides to write more books like this, I'll be first in line.

No this felt wrong. But when she went to look, it was gone. Did she imagine it? Was it something ominous? Will she ever feel good about life?
R.K. Pierce does it again with another monster romance. Like the title says, this is a darker monster romance. But, the character depth was on point for a story that was on the shorter side. Did I wish for more when I finished it? Of course. But, the story that was given was oh so good. I thoroughly loved reading this and can’t wait to see what other monster romance she will knock out of the park next.

This novella had so much plot, so much depth, the spice we did get was *chef's kiss* and the characters were so well written!
"He was an angel of darkness, something straight out of scripture."
This didn't feel like a novella to me because it just felt like a complete story and I was definitely left wanting more. This was absolutely amazing. Miss Pierce does not disappoint when it comes to monster romance and the shadow element of it was just 🥵😉
I absolutely love how Aether was so hell-bent on destroying the very being of Jovie but in the end, he desperately wanted her. He claimed her. She was his. He was hers. Jovie wanted it, just as much as he did and accepted it and she finally, finally felt safe.

The idea of the book was interesting, and I liked the paranormal stalker element.
Aether seemed like an intriguing character, and I would have liked to learn more about him, his past, and why he was trapped, etc.
Even though the book was quite short, there was a surprising amount of backstory and history for Jovie as a character, but obviously, there wasn’t a lot of time for world-building or character development.
Short, fast, and easy to read.

I am still trying to process this book. For years, Jovie has been terrified of the dark presence constantly just out of view. She's pretty certain she is losing her mind.
Aether has spent the last 1000 years in the bowels of Hell trying to find his way out. Somehow, he feels the pull of a mortal who has hit rock bottom. He starts to for a plan to nurse himself back to health on her fear. Once he is healthy enough to cross the veil, he plans to kill her for her soul to break the final bond holding him to hell.
When Jovie and Aether finally meet, neither is prepared for what happens. I need more Jovie and Aether!! I was not ready for this to be over. This book will definitely be in my top 5 of 2024!!

What can I say about this amazing book? I loved it from the first page to the last, and I really need to know where I can get my own shadow daddy like Aether. Jovie is an amazingly strong woman who was dealt a crappy hand, she and her twin Lennon dealt with a lot growing up. I loved their bond, twins have an awesome bond that no one but other twins, triplets etc will ever understand. This book sizzled, the smut was smutting perfectly! All I can say is I need more of Jovie and Aether!

I loved it. The story was fleshed out and you really feel the emotions they go through. The character ARCS were amazing and the chemistry was 🥵. I just wish it was longer so I could find out what those shadows are capable of 😉

So at I was a little worried because it didn’t seem really romantic to me but a little over half way had me swooning! And don’t even get me started on shadow daddy! Also if you’re like me and read a book based on trigger warnings this is your book but also know to check the trigger warnings because there is a lot of them! But oh man I wish this book was soooo much longer but it was still a great novella!

I love R.K.Pierce, and this little naughty monster romance novella is fantastic that i wish it was a full novel.

I loved this tasty novella! I mean to be stalked in the dark but yet not being that afraid. Sometimes monsters don’t hide in the dark and are living. Josie definitely had a rough beginning in life . Aether just waiting and gaining strength to grab his mortal. He finally is able to surface and I was a bit more blown away than jovie was when she saw his face. The steam between them was out of this world. I definitely loved this book!

Absolute Terror
This story builds the tension and cranks up the terror so maliciously/deliciously, resulting in a final climax was just perfect. Poor Jovie thinks she’s losing it, seeing shadows out of the corner of her eye. Little does she know, she’s been targeted by an otherworldly entity hell-bent on consuming her soul. I loved the tension, as well as the non-traditional romance aspects (apparently “stalking” is the new “courtship”). Dark, oh so dark, but oh so good.

I received an advanced copy, and this is my honest review.
This was a thrilling little novella, with so much plot I kept forgetting it wasn't a full-length novel. It felt complete, but I also still wanted more. Well executed with a perfect balance of smut to plot, which isn't usually easy to achieve in so few pages. Highly recommend.

What a delicious Novella by R.K. Pierce. I was drawn to this from the very beginning a dark monster romance that had me in its grip, I couldn’t put it down wanting and needing to know more. I love how R.K. is able to pull on emotions throughout the story. This stalker vibe monster romance is a must easy quick read.

This did not fall short. It's not her norm, either. Which made it even more fun. This was dark and twisted, make sure to check TWs.

Our FMC goes through several traumatic events in her life, only to realize she’s being stalked by a shadow figure for a few years. Eventually, he becomes corporeal and unleashes hell 😈. Please check all CW and TW before diving into this one! I knew I was going to enjoy this one and still question myself as to why I like it so much lol. Jovie knows there’s something there but she definitely was not expecting what came out. I was over here cheering for her!
