Ashe, a child of five years, woke to screams of his fellow villagers and animal growls. Terrified, he asked what was going on, but his mother grabbed him and fled their village with his father in hopes to escape the lizardmen that were raiding it.
They weren't fast enough. After a plan was made up to split up and meet in a cave not too far away, Ashe's mother rushed towards that direction. Ashe felt better because they were losing the lizardmen, but she tripped and found that her ankle was at an odd angle. HIs mother cried out for Ashe to leave her as she couldn't continue on, but he was defiant to her pleads. He finally obeyed his mother and fled as fast and as far as his little legs could carry him, but he wasn't fast enough.
Ashe is saved and brought to another world by The Goddess of Light's High Priestess and her knights. He ends up with a new name, new identity, and a new family.
This is a story that has magic, sword and sorcery, and some litrpg elements, but is definitely not heavy with it.
rated mature for graphic violence, gore, and a few curse words. Unconventional relationships and the content is FTB.
A poor attempt at world building marred by an incredibly forced over powered character. This has the usual bad guys, suitably pompous and racist, with no deviation from the standard Jade formula. Since of Xander's settings are pretty much the same, you think he would focus on finishing a story rather than regurgitate another clone.
I'm hesitant to be too critical because the writing quality is so bad, I suspect the author doesn't speak English as a first language, is a pre-teen, or perhaps both. But regardless of the reason, it's *bad*.
Clunky phrasing, inconsistencies literally in consecutive pages, an incredible reliance on "telling" over phrasing, a bizarre plot, far too much time skipping, jarring transitions, dialogue that no human being would ever speak, and an absurd amount of power inflation *in the introduction*. And that's just what I noticed before I got fed up and quit.
The story starts out all right, with all of the characters speaking and acting informally, as would be expected in a small village. Then there is a time skip, and everyone starts talking to each other in an extreme level of formality. Even amongst family members. It essentially changes all of the characters and how they interact. It's very jarring and ruins the narrative that was established in the earlier chapters. Who says something like "I had no desire to ascertain that information" to their own mother? Especially when that level of diction and formality didn't exist in the relationship before.
Wish fulfillment at it's best. Reminiscent of Haddock.
I'm giddy at all the awesome abilities and possibilities. This book really sets it up. All while maintaining the immersion and getting us to care for the characters. I can't wait to see the follow through.
It reminds me a bit of James Haddock's fantasy works. It does this while showcasing Jade's potential to set the stage. Very enjoyable if any of that sounds remotely good to you.
One could argue that we could care about the characters more. They would be right, but at the cost of a certain dimension of buoyancy. The current balance is nice without feeling bogged down too heavily in poignancy.
found it very entertaining, but there was some time skipping
I like the story very much and the characters were engaging, but r so and didn’t sit wellthe were some time-skipping that had me confused or left a poor impression. From 8 years old to 10 to 15 to 16, at each pause there were updates, but most were a single paragraph and didn’t sit well with me. At 16 thing really started to pickup and enjoyed the rest of the story and cliff it left us on.
I have enjoyed this authors works since I first found them years ago!!! This storyline has great potential as their other works but this one needs some polishing!!! The flow of the story is disconnected and erratic, as well as the character dialogue is confusing at times. World building and character development needs to be expanded!!! With all that said I will really anxiously await what the author comes up with!!!
The ever building story has great development centered around the main character. If you like a story with constant energy, great characters, excitement and humor then this is for you.
Wow, another fantastic book by Xander Jade. Good imagination and storyline with excellent characters, brilliant twists and excellent fight scenes, well done.Gary Challenger from Devon UK.
I really truly hope this is the start of a new series. Because it's great ! The story line is great The hero is believable, And it's a decent length Can't wait for the next 1
I was looking for a new story. This one didn't even have any details. But, since I have enjoyed everything this author has written, I picked it up. It did not disappoint. I just hate having to wait for the next book.
Interesting way to start a new book series. Quick character development with a good understanding of the main character. This looks to lead to a good and entertaining series.
This book was another excellent book by the author. The characters are well developed. The story is intriguing and well written. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
I have read all your works available with this device, mist admit you lost me once or twice and I am looking forward to the MC kicking some #####. Think I will re-read all your books available Thanks!!!
Good first book in series. MC is very OP but allows themselves to be lead into stupid positions. That could be because of their age (16) and low societal interactions. Studying alone for 8 years with a dead person might lead to some disfunction
The MC and other characters were hard to care about, and the pacing was pretty rough. Somehow we expect an 8 year old to do a lot of things a 12 year old would struggle with. Also the 16 year old thing is icky. Won't pick this series up again.
Honestly didn't want it to end. Makes me wish Mate would stay to confront everyone. Hopefully many more to come. Now onto the Traveler and Dom or Gage.
It's off to an amazing start. It's been awhile since I got this into a first book of a new series. I am looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.
