Erik has been hiding from both humans and monsters for hundreds of years. He isn’t like any other monster and doesn’t belong out in the open. But when he catches wind of the current location of an ancient enemy, the Allentown aquarium is the perfect place for him to hide while he hunts his query. Hiding in plain sight as a human is his utmost priority. It isn’t safe for the only kraken on earth to be discovered. So, when he encounters a reporter, and the mating bond snaps into place instantly, he fights against it tooth and tentacle. But keeping his distance is easier said than done.
Mia Williams faces unemployment, but she’s worked at the Allentown Star newspaper for far too long to accept it. It’s her career. Allentown is her home. She needs a big story that catches national attention to save her job. Like a story of an actual monster. One unknown to people outside of myths and legends. One she thinks she saw hiding at the Allentown aquarium. But the sexy new aquarist she meets during her quest threatens to dismantle not just her career, but her disciplined virginity.
This book contains mature themes of sex, kink, violence, foul language... and a lot of tentacles.
Honestly, I walked into this thinking I was going to be reading a silly monster romance. I was very pleasantly surprised that I wasn't. I loved the love story, I loved the plot. I loved that the MMC is so supportive of the FMC eventhough everyone around her isn't. I also liked that he respected her and her feelings. I started this book and just ate it right up. Did I question some things about myself? Also, yes. But the writing was well done, and the story was captivating. And I will be reading the other two books in this series.

This was okay. It started off better than it ended. The FMC was pretty one note, obsessed with journalism (her whole identity is tied to it), is a pushover for her mom, and is terrified of being a single mom. MMC was also one note, obsessed with sea animals, his mate, and getting revenge on his family.
She’s also a bit frustrating when she runs into danger ALONE because she refuses to lean on anyone including her damn mate.
I wanted to like this, I really did. But it was just meh.
The plot was ok, but not well developed. The FMC was kind of obnoxious, and the constant secrecy from the MMC drove me insane. The majority of this is communication problems, which I kinda get cause the MMC is trying to stay hidden, but still.
The spice was fun and typical for monster romance. It was a slow burn so the first half we didn't get much but then the last half we got a lot.
I didn't really like any of the side characters and the FMC family was just horrid. I expected her history and why she didn't date to be a little more, something. It kinda fell flat.
This is a nice fluffy monster (well slimy monster) romance book. I like the pieces of lore you get from the author about the different monsters and how they fit into the world. I only give 4 stars because the plot armor is strong in these books and a little predictable. But overall an entertaining read.
This was my first monster romance and Janae did not disappoint!! I loved the story - Mia and Erik’s chemistry was everything. The spice was on point (and made me question a few things about myself if we are being honest 😅). I will definitely be reading Janae’s other books!!
This book was unhinged in the best way. A little bit left to be desired on craftsmanship (typos, probably pacing), but I had a fun time reading it and a hard time putting it down!
