Tessa Graves's to-do list: Find her lost memories, kill the Patron, and restore honor to the House of Graves, if such a thing is even possible...
The Cadwel incident did not go unnoticed, and as a result the Graves gals and Curtis Nash may be up a creek without a paddle. Old clientele are seeking to insure they don’t end up like the Cadwels by removing Graves, Graves, and Graves from the picture, permanently. And the only way to keep the Hidden government off their case is by solving one for the Tetrarch. (Never mind that it’s an unsolvable cold case from before Tessa could tie her own shoes.) If that wasn’t bad enough, Tessa is discovering that her mind is far less her own than she realized and that the most dangerous threat to her family may be her... Hi, I'm M.M. Crumley Your Author Extraordinaire (Also Known as M.M. Boulder)
As M.M. Crumley I write Urban Fantasy books full of supernatural action, nail-biting-mystery and; laugh-out-loud humor. Why? Because stories, myths, and legends have always been a huge part of my life... As a child, I liked nothing better than to lose myself in a world where magic and heroes were part of the fabric of existence.
As my pen name M.M. Boulder I write psychological thrillers and murder mysteries that bring the darker impulses we may not feel completely comfortable with into the light. My stories are full of lies and deaths, but there is always justice. A type of justice that's not afraid to get its hands dirty. I write morally ambiguous characters who are pushed to their limits and take matters into their own hands. In my world getting away with murder has never been so much fun!
No matter what I write every one of my characters are real to me. They exist. They are three-dimensional beings who demand that their stories be told. If I were to turn away from them, they would haunt me; and so I don't. Instead I chase after them and write down everything they say!
I have several series to help you scratch your itch for adventure: THE HOUSE OF GRAVES Series THE IMMORTAL DOC HOLLIDAY Series THE LEGEND OF ANDREW RUFUS Series JANEY FALKE: SAINT KILLER Series (Coming Soon) Five Deliciously Dark Psychological Thriller Novels And More...

Story 4 stars. Narration 4 stars This is book 2 in this series about a “norm” woman that lives among paranormal beings. It takes place in Denver not long after the death of her father. The longer he’s been gone the more horrible things she’s found out about him. She’s now running his company that she’s worked at for as long as she can remember only now she’s trying to make things right that her father is responsible for ruining. She lives with her grandmother and aunt now as they came back home after her father died. They had no idea how badly Tessa had been treated. Her grandmother writes smutty regency era romances and likes to read them aloud whenever she can. She’s definitely the comic relief. A troll that Tessa has taken on as a worker is now an important side character as well. The business is right outside the part of Denver called The Hidden where the paranormal reside. Most norms have no idea it even exists even though it’s a pretty huge area. Most if not all of their work is done in The Hidden.
This one takes place a couple of weeks after the previous book. That book was full of adventure and danger of the paranormal kind. I really liked it. This one was full of a lot of the same type, but of course different problems and general mayhem. A lot of this one concerns the witch that has planted all kinds of bad suggestions in Tessa’s mind and literally causes her pain if she tries to get around the suggestions. This is all due to her horrible father. There is a definite love interest this time who is only around a few times because Tessa is so busy working. I did like him. I actually liked most of the characters-except the ones you are supposed to hate. The family was my favorite part along with some of the paranormal aspects-especially the troll. I’ve already gotten the next one to listen to although the first one was still the best in my opinion.
Narration was especially good with men’s voices which is so often not the case with a female narrator. 4 stars.
After the events in the last book many in the supernatural world of the Hidden are calling for the Graves women to be punished.......harshly. Tessa, Ollie and Giselle the three generations of Graves women have just found each other after decades apart so they are not prepared to be separated again....Ever....... With the help of Colin (a troll who is Tessa's best and only friend) the women are determined to right the wrongs done by the male members of the family while losing as private detectives in the firm of Graves, Graves and Graves. Going back over thirty plus years cases hopefully belatedly righting the wrongs done by the Graves men. As you would expect there are many influential families in the Hidden who do not want this boat rocked and they are prepared to go to any means necessary to see their secrets stay hidden ................... And then there is the problem of the Patron who is still able to remotely control Tessa's actions.
Book 2 in this series is a great follow-on. Full of humour, frustration, and intrigue. What a trio the Graves are. One's a detective, one's a fighter, and the other writes saucy novels. Together, they are trying to right a wrong. What a combination! MM Crumley has a great imagination, and I can happily lose myself in her books. I'm quite prepared for a very late night as once I start reading, the book isn't going to be put down till it's finished I eagerly await book 3!
I'm loving these books. Each one so far has its own case, but there is an ongoing storyline for Tessa and the Patron. You could read one book and not the others, I think, but some of the carry through information won't make much sense. Definitely read the first one if you haven't before reading this one. There is just enough mystery surrounding Doc Holiday that I'll probably read the series on him too. So glad I stumbled across this author's books.
I’m totally wrapped in the lives of Graves Graves Graves and Nash! I want to know what happens next! Grandma/Giselle has gotten to the good parts and is making me wait until next July to wrap it up😬😱. I don’t usually become this invested in characters, but MS Crumley’s writing is just that good.
just absolutely incredible storytelling. I binged the series
Rating : 4.75 ⭐️
I really don’t know how I missed this author before, she’s astonishing.
Over the River & Through the Wood makes Tessa Graves’ situation ever more precarious, the horror and ever present danger that the Patron threatens to her mental and physical state, and those around her is increasingly terrifying. And the hidden files of her father brings the truth of exactly how evil and vicious he and the Patron he as well as all the men of her family have become.
It is a race to uncover who the Patron is, vs the mental pressure and physical force he’s bringing against her, the files she and Ollie and her grandmother are trying to fix and outside forces who have their own issues.
The deepest emotional struggle is that of Tessa, who, with help, has come to realize exactly what her father has done to her and her mind since she was 13. The missing memories, the chunks of her life, in fact, her life and consent, that was removed from her, until now. Grief, rage and loss is there and the fact that she has no idea has to interact with others. And we are with her, in her head each second of every moment of every heinous act of her struggle to regain control of her mind and body . It’s gritty, raw, and utterly heartbreaking
At the end I found I couldn’t stop, grateful that this was a finished series and kept going. The suspense, the intensity and, frankly, the building heartbreak, as Tessa lets a small circle of people into her life and heart even as the Patron is trying to dig in further for control, well, tissues are something to have around. Be warned.
Darkness is everything here, laughs a minor thing. The characters are brilliant.
I absolutely love them. Binging is everything.

Graves, Graves, Graves & Nash investigative services survived the takedown of the Cadwel pack, the most elite wolf-shifter pack in the Hidden. Tessa’s continuing her mission to right the three generations of Graves, Graves & Graves wrongdoing by reviewing more cases all the while trying to fight the Patron’s invasive control of her mind. Every time Tessa comes across a case or a situation she’s to keep suppressed, she suffers extreme, skull-splitting pain. How can she be sure The Patron is not aware of everything she’s doing to undo all the damage GG&G has done over many decades?
With help from her Aunt Olivia “Ollie,” her grandmother Gisele and her new business partner, Curtis Nash, she presses on to both right the wrongs and purge The Patron from her mind, but it’s as difficult as ever. Her takedown of the Cadwel pack has garnered her support from some and opposition from others in the Hidden.
The Tetrarch of the Hidden, Simon Redgrove, has called GG&G to his office and Ollie goes in Tessa’s place. Ollie is not so sure Tessa doesn’t have some Patron-planted hidden trigger in her brain and does not want Tessa in the leader’s presence until they have a better understanding of just how much control of Tessa the Patron has…or does not have.
Simon gives the firm a new case to solve: The disappearance of his own father 30+ years ago. Now the team of GGG&H are looking for the Aesop Redgrove all the while dodging the Hidden’s Elites who are trying to stop them in order keep their dealings with the “old” GG&G secret from the Hidden’s citizens. Oh, and has it been mentioned that apparently Curtis can transform from Troll to human form with the aid of a troll-forged stone ring? Tessa’s also got some help from Julian LaRoche of the Hidden’s Roma clan. Just maybe they will manage to not be unalived and find papa Redgrove and live happily ever after?
I'm still getting the feel for Crumley's writing. While her plots are interesting, they seem to be resolved fairy quickly and with minimum effort from the MCs. The books aren't really romances, even though there is some of that, so the extra time isn't taken up developing a romance or two. I feel like there is a lot of filler. To be fair, with the 3 POVs, the filler is more about sharing information and building the family bond, but there are still lots of times when nothing really happens. I also don't like Tessa. I know that isn't fair because . *Only a spoiler really if you haven't read the first book* I do like the books, I just started book three, but I'm not sure they are something I'll come back and read again and again.
Tessa is still trying to regain lost memories and also trying to break the conditioning that she was subject to by her father and the patron. It’s hard to do, she suffers from debilitating headaches whenever she tries to go against it. Thanks to the defeat of the Cadwel’s, the company is now under threat from parties that are afraid secret details will come to light, everyone seems to want them dead. To keep the Hidden government from joining in the threats, they agree to solve a 30-year-old mystery for the current Tetrarch. With the help of her aunt Ollie, grandmother Gisele and new partner troll Curtis, Tessa is determined to redeem the company by undoing a lot of the evil that was done by her father. It’s not an easy task. This book has a lot of action, humour – a troll ring gives Curtis the ability to turn into a human but he keeps destroying clothes and turning up naked to Tessa’s discomfort. There is also suspense, mystery, surprises and of course the great character. Grandma Gisele is a hoot. I’m loving every word so far and can hardly wait to start the next book. Highly recommend.
A new Graves and Graves and Graves and Nash turn their new page, Tessa and Curtis are working to undo the evil her father did. Tessas' amazing ability of observation bring conclusions lightening fast speed. Curtis is helping Tessa to be more sensitive and she in turn is helping him...well.. I cannot say how. You will HAVE to read this book. My warning..do not drink your coffee while reading, drink it before. Ms Crumley has a gift of sneaking hysterically funny parts in. My Ereader got a coffee bath!
You are immediately introduced to engaging, delightful, deeply sympathetic characters and the world building is so adroit you are immersed on the first page. It didn't take a big build up to be invested. I have read the first two books so far and I am determined to binge this series. No typos or glaring editorial errors to throw me off. Just pure pleasure.
So happy to have discovered this author and this series. I was a bit concerned when I read blurb about madcap grandma or words to that effect. But grandma and aunt are well drawn and well rounded. Main character is believable. Side characters are well written. Plot is good and moves along not too fast and not too slow. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series and am happy to see the author has a lot of books written and waiting for me.
This was an epic second entry in the new series. I am absolutely loving triple G. For those who have no idea what that is, its Graves, Graves and Graves, three kick but heroines. There's also Curtis, who is a huge part of their antics, but Triple G and Nash doesn't have the same flair. Seriously, read these. Now. Lol.
Okay so now I want to be married to Curtis, whose goodness absolutely shines through.
I also want Giselle to read her stories to me, nightly, daily, all the time. Plus I want to be Ollie.
If you are unsure of what I allude to, then stop reading this review and go and read this next installment....like listening to Giselle's stories, I hang on every word!
I'm not overly fond of works that end with cliffhangers as this book does. It is an interesting psychology work so ill go for the next instalment nevertheless. The Graves can't be 100% " norm" or else normal in this world isn't really that close to real world normal.
Trying to go legit after the company she inherited had been doing things behind the scenes is hard especially since she still had the witch in her head. For now she is just telling herself that her father assigned her the tasks and her headache goes away. How can she get the company legit when her body keeps fighting her? Good Read.
Very good book characters are easy to tell apart and they all have their own personalities
I'm impressed with the wchay aet6ll of the characters have their own individual personalities and their own corks all of them make up a great story. I very much recommend this series thank you
I was a little hesitant to get into this series just because it’s new, but I thoroughly enjoyed both the first book and this installment. I’m looking forward to the future adventures of Graves, Graves, Graves and Curtis!
Im really liking this series. Tessa is immature, rude, headstrong, irritating and comp!etely perfect. These 3 ladies are a force to be dealt with. This book just ended too soon!
This a great spin off the Doc Holliday series wig us amazing! Book two of The House of Graves gave us a lot of insight into our characters. I can't wait for the next one!
I have found a new bunch of amazing characters! It's. A whirlwind of new experiences and personalities that make you laugh one minute and be upset the next. Can't wait to read more of the Graves.
Loved this whole series. Wonderful characters and a villian's villian. Diabolical right till the end! I started this series first and after two books I began reading Doc and his cohorts. Another great series. But I truly loved the Grave women.
Love these books, really enjoyed book 2 , can't wait to read the rest of the series. M. M. Crummley knows how to entertain and keep us wanting more lol
I'm quite thoroughly enjoying the story. It's not a storyline that's rehashed, but brand new and full of surprises. The author does a good job of keeping the story moving along and not dragging the plot out.
I was unexpectedly impressed with this series. We are told that Tessa, the youngest Graves, is our protagonist; during the first couple of books, I was unconvinced. I suppose this was written to allow for a "growth arc" which screams "coming of age" (yuck) to me....but it wasn't. Rather than the young, strong (theoretically) heroine with a couple of older relative sidekicks/comic relief/moral support characters, what we have here is really a wonderful ensemble cast. Every one adds equally to the story. It is really well-done. At a 5-book story arc, it was just long enough to really come to care about the characters, but not so long as to feel artificially dragged out. I cared enough about the MC that I did not really want to read the last book because it was clear something awful was coming, and I was not going to like it. Thank heavens the author believes in happy endings.
This second installment of the Graves series is setting up for the final battle perfectly. Giselle is funny romance book in the middle is a great distraction from the tension.
I loved the book and the series. It seems to be a little different than most paranormal books but that’s what makes it more interesting and mysterious. Tessa, Ollie and her grandmother are all amazing strong women.
