"It’s said that when an Indigenous woman goes missing, she goes missing twice — first her body vanishes, and then her story.” So begins one of the most highly-anticipated thrillers.
In the vastness of the Adirondacks, amidst the unforgiving landscape of frozen lakes and snow-capped peaks, a chilling discovery shatters the silence of a remote ice fishing the remains of a young mother who vanished without a trace a decade earlier.
As the investigation unfolds, BCI Investigator Noah Sutherland finds himself thrust into a mystery that leads him north to the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation. There, he uncovers the haunting echoes of another missing person case, that of a young Native American woman.
What ties these women together, if anything at all? Are their disappearances mere coincidence, or is there a darker truth waiting to be uncovered?
In his relentless pursuit of answers, Noah must navigate the perilous world of crime, confront the prejudices that lurk beneath the surface, and face the grim reality of missing and murdered indigenous women.

I liked the author's stitching the characters and story together, much like he has on the others in this series. The hopelessness of people Noah encounters along this journey is familiar to me, having been a deputy on a county composed of a reservation. Great story, can't wait for the next one.
Would anyone really be surprised to find corruption in police departments? Well hold on to your seatbelts because it’s not the only thing this book is about. Human trafficking is an issue whether it is one or one billion a year.
Just finished #6. The entire series is well written. Great plots that vary in each book. I was glad to find that the author wrote under the Jack Hunt name. His other pen name . . . I had read all of those! Looking forward to #7!
A good mystery that grows more complicated as they start asking questions. Its not simple and there is a continuous thread that will continue into the next book while the basic mystery is solved.
These books continue to amaze! I love following the detective through each new case. The book is filled with excitement around every corner, and the writing is excellent! I cannot wait to begin the next book!
Plot- or character-driven? A mix Strong character development? Yes Loveable characters? Yes Diverse cast of characters? Yes Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

★★★½: A solid book with some strengths and a some weaknesses.
I was hoping more of the overall conspiracy would be solved/resolved, but it wasn't. The law enforcement leak wasn't uncovered nor was his father's involvement. At some point, Author Jack Hunt needs to wrap up these story lines.
Lost a whole star because nothing is getting resolved.
