Kalindra and her companions felt the cold of despair seep into their bones as they fled from the frozen north. They had failed to prevent the Blackness Beyond from unleashing its dark power upon Parthenis. The only thing that kept them from giving up was the dying words of Yenderen.
Kalindra and her friends resolved to fight until their last breath, even if it meant chasing a false hope, rather than surrendering to their doom. They soared eastward, towards Parthenis, and gasped at the sight of Corvenhold and the other isles of the Oldenford archipelago engulfed in flames. They descended on a nearby island to join the defenders, but Kalindra’s presence did not go unnoticed by a spy of the Sightless Cabal, who alerted his fellow conspirators, and soon Kalindra and her friends found themselves surrounded by enemies.
Would they be able to escape the trap, or would they perish in the flames of the Blackness Beyond?
2.75 stars The Void continues to search for "true peace", aka the end of all life. So, the danger to Parthenis grows. Kalindra and her friends need to find the Elder dragons to help chase the Void/Blackness Beyond from their world. Aside from there being a little too much 'deus ex machina' around for the second instalment running, my copy for some reason contains half or more of the previous segment of the story, which was more than a little disappointing. What bits were new, were indeed interesting - particularly both how Scalding Winds concluded and, once more, how it opened with the Void in conversation with one of the other characters. It continues to be the most intriguing of the lot and I, for one, wish there was more of this!
Things just seem to go from bad to worse for Kalindra and her people. Discovering what is happening to their fallen comrades adds to the hopelessness of the situation. What is happening with the dragons? What is of such importance and secrecy, that humans need to be kept out of the discussion? Kalindra feels abandoned but maybe that is a good thing. She has been doubting herself so this could be a good time to prove just how capable she really is.
I received a free Advance Reader Copy of Scalding Winds through StoryOrigin, and have chosen to leave a review.
Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. The moment I started reading, there were many gripping emotions that led to heart pounding suspense. Battle plans were formulated which uncovered a possible victory over the sightless Cabal and the Blackness Beyond. Kalindra and her father overcome heartfelt sadness and emotions which give Kalindra the strength to carry out cleverly constructed plans. This is a continuing story, and one you don’t want to miss.
This had everything that I was hoping for from the previous two books in the Fall of the Dracomancer series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed getting back to this world. The characters continued to feel like they belonged in this world and was glad I got to read this. Luna Fox has a great writing style and look forward to more.

Kali, Lan, Rina, and the others are at their wit’s end – how to prevent the Void from taking over what is left of their world, and all life. Certain answers come, but they must seek others – in the process, more secrets emerge and risks abound. Action-packed, dangerous, and emotional. How can the characters go on when death is around every turn?
A short, but fast paced read as Kalindra and the others continue to fight against 'The Blackness Beyond', attempting to thwart its quest to end the world. All seems hopeless, but they refuse to surrender. Who will succeed, will it be survival or destruction? Recommended. I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This fight against the Blackness Beyond is seemingly hopeless. I wonder how all this will work out. I don’t think it will prevail, but I could be wrong. I loved reading this story!
Kalindra and her companions tried hard to get rid of the danger, unfortunately it wasn’t so simple. Perhaps the words of their deceased companion will help. Ready for more.
Lan is now safe and healing. Branora and Sylvia have found a possible way to vanquish the Void. They must relay their findings to Kalindra who has her hands full with the various Lords of the Alliance, the responsibility of being the General in charge, Rina's existential crisis as she deals with jealousy, a new emotion for her and he fact that time is of the essence if they want to defeat the enemy with his feral Nefrati and Voiddragons.
The Four friends, Belindra, Rena, Syl and the Archmage must travel to find the holy book if the plan that they have devised, has any chance of success.
Again, the authors have tackled many fronts with brio and conceived a sequel that spins a twist in the reader's understanding of the plot . Attacks from feral Nefrati, Voiddragons and the rest of the nasty troupes turn the book into a 5 Star rated great book that I highly recommend.
