Sharing Shane

Can a fling turn into a future?

Veronica was supposed to be spending the week in Bermuda with her charming boyfriend, not some guy she’d never met. But she caught her boyfriend charming the neighbor, and now she needs a warm body to fulfill the double occupancy requirement of the resort—or forfeit the pre-paid, non-refundable vacation entirely.

Shane is way too busy to take a vacation. But his boyfriend thinks he needs a break, and a friend of a friend needs a favor. Which is how he ends up in a beachside bungalow with a beautiful woman—and only one bed.

Grumpy, bearded Shane seems like the perfect way to jump back into being single—or would be if the sexy carpenter wasn’t taken. But taken is relative, and when a series of events reveals that Shane is A) bisexual, B) polyamorous, and C) as into her as she is into him, they make damn good use of that one bed.

Back home, the reality of Shane’s polyamorous life could throw a bucket of cold water on all that heat. Sharing Shane for fun and games is one thing, but Veronica will have to decide if she can share him for love—for a lifetime.

Hannah Murray

Hannah has been reading romance novels since she was young enough to have to hide them from her mother, and decided to try her hand at writing one when she realized the book she really wanted to read lived in her head. That was a dozen years and as many manuscripts ago, and there are still more stories to be told.

She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband—former Special Forces and an OR nurse who writes fantasy fiction, and acts as In House Expert for his wife on matters pertaining to weapons, tactics, the military, medical conditions and How Dudes Think—and their daughter, who takes after her father.

Hannah loves to hear from readers, and will answer questions here on Goodreads.

If anyone doubts consent is sexy, read this book.

My reviewer brain isn't at full speed just yet, so here's a quick list of worked and didn't (for me).

The good:

- Tons of consent and communication throughout, and the one time communication fails the reason makes sense, and it's recognized pretty much immediately.

- Shane not only makes sure that his bed partner is with him every step of the way, but he also recognizes dynamics that male love interests often miss.

Shane, however, was hyper-aware of the fact he held a distinct physical advantage over most women. Since there was nothing he could do about that, he went out of his way to be as non-threatening as possible.

- A polyam relationship that's not a triad, huzzah! It's not even easy to put into a letter shape - bonus points.

- The side characters are fully developed and people of their own right. I especially love Veronica's banter with her best friend, Delia.

"Keep the money. Compensation for your pain and suffering."
"I can't do that, Delia," Veronica told her. "He paid me using a money transfer app, I'll just send it back the same way."
"He fucked your neighbor on your grandmother's quilt."
"Okay, maybe I'll let him sweat it a while."

- The book fits its pages, and allows time to pass in a way that makes the HEA feel both realistic and earned.

The not-so-good:

- I wish the author would have used "polyam" as shorthand for "polyamory" instead of "poly". "Poly" could refer to a bunch of things - polyamory, polysexual, Polynesian, polyethylene even - and adding two little letters clears up the confusion.

As a whole it's just the kind of fun, hot book that I'm actually able to read right now, despite my brain being all over the place, and I love it for that.

"Sharing Shane" is a delightful rollercoaster of unexpected romance and self-discovery. Veronica finds herself in a pickle when her vacation plans with her cheating boyfriend go awry, leading her to share a beach bungalow with the ruggedly charming Shane. What starts as a convenient arrangement quickly evolves into something more as they navigate their feelings amidst the sun-kissed beaches and swaying palms.

Hannah Murray crafts a refreshingly modern love story that challenges traditional relationship norms. Veronica's evolution from heartbroken to empowered is both relatable and inspiring, while Shane's openness about his sexuality adds depth to his character. The chemistry between them sizzles off the pages, making every interaction feel electric and genuine.

While "Sharing Shane" offers plenty of steamy moments, it's also a story about acceptance and embracing one's true self. Murray navigates the complexities of polyamory with sensitivity, offering readers a glimpse into a lifestyle often misunderstood. Ultimately, this book is a delightful read that reminds us love comes in many forms, and sometimes, it's worth taking a chance on the unexpected.

The premise of the book seemed interesting and i was right! First of all, this was hot, and entertaining.
I really liked the development of the story and even though Veronica had no experience with polyamory, she did not judge and was always eager to learn.

But hey, overall a good book that I enjoyed reading. I would like to read more by this author.

After ending a relationship, Veronica needs to find someone to take the second, non refundable ticket to Bermuda. She gives the ticket to a friend of a friend, Shane, but they are both surprised to find only one bed when they get to their vacation destination.
Shane is a bi-sexual man in a polyamorous relationship but he and Veronica have an instant attraction to one another. She also realizes a mutual attraction to Shane’s partner, Wyatt.

I am a big fan of Hannah Murray’s writing and she hit it out of the park with this book. I was fortunate enough to be an ARC reader and I loved this book so much.
The characters are well developed and charming. You’ll instantly fall in love with Veronica, Shane & Wyatt. Veronica’s candidness is so refreshing and the clear and open discussion of sex & consent was so wonderful. The characters checked in with each other often and were tender and caring. The spice factor was incredible. The characters have wonderful chemistry & the love scenes are SUPER sexy!

This is a really refreshing erotic romance. It's wonderful to see a positive take on polyamory and bisexuality. The chemistry between Veronica and Shane is fantastic. I enjoyed seeing Veronica evolve and discover things about herself. I found it relatable as someone who is relatively new to polyamory myself. I also loved how clear and open Shane was about his sexuality. There's lots of steamy moments but it's also a story of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

My only real issue is that I found the dialogue sometimes cringe. I honestly didn't enjoy Veronica's best friend Delia. She felt like a caricature and ended up skimming pages when she showed up.

this book is good

I enjoyed the book but it wasn’t the best. I have read. Shane should have a little more consequence for his actions. She just rolled over.

If you like poly romance novels full of hot sex scenes and good communication, I would highly recommend this book.

Summary:

Veronica is looking forward to a romantic vacation with her boyfriend, but those plans are ruined when she catches him cheating on her with the neighbor. Veronica decides to go on the vacation by herself, but her boyfriend’s reservation for the resort is non-refundable. A mutual friend introduces her to Shane, who happens to be looking for a room at the sold-out resort where Veronica is staying. Veronica sells Shane her ex-boyfriend’s resort reservation, not realizing the reservation is for a hotel room with only one bed.

Veronica and Shane are instantly attracted to each other, but Veronica doesn’t think acting on those feelings is possible because Shane is dating a man named Wyatt. When Veronica learns that Shane is bisexual and polyamorous, she decides to act on her attraction to Shane.

Review:

This book was such a fun read!

Shane’s experience of bisexuality was emphasized in the book, and I especially loved reading those sections knowing they were written by a bi/pan author.

Veronica is straight and supportive of Shane’s identity as bisexual. Veronica is super respectful and encouraging of Shane’s relationship with Wyatt. During the occasional threesomes between Veronica, Shane, and Wyatt, it never felt like Veronica is disrespectful of the physical or emotional relationship between the two men. The book makes a big deal of emphasizing the difference between genuine curiosity and attraction versus treating someone like an object to help you check something off a sexual bucket list.

The sex scenes were HOT and they emphasized consent, communication, lube, condoms, which I loved (and really wish I saw more often).

Veronica has never tried polyamory before her relationship with Shane. It was great seeing her going to a poly support group and putting in the effort to be a good partner and metamour. The book also exposes the reader to different types of poly relationships.

I loved the ending, so I want to talk about it (spoiler warning).

A Beautifully Unconventional Romance
Rating: 9/10
Spice Level: 3/5
Reread: Likely

The book emerges as a compelling narrative that gracefully challenges conventional romance norms, offering a profound exploration of love, self-discovery, and open relationships. The author's talent shines through in making the unconventional feel inviting and warm, transforming a potentially controversial theme into a heartwarming love story.

From the beginning, the author masterfully presents the unconventional in a familiar and welcoming manner. The portrayal of an open relationship is handled with finesse and sensitivity, dismantling preconceived notions and allowing readers to immerse themselves in the story's unique love dynamics. The emphasis on consent, communication, and the clear distinction between cheating and open relationships is commendable, highlighting the importance of transparency and mutual respect in any partnership.

However, there's a slight critique to mention that is also a slight general spoiler.

Despite these super minor things, the essence of the book lies in its heartwarming and thought-provoking portrayal of non-monogamous love. The author's skill in weaving a tale that balances the journey of self-discovery with the complexities of love is remarkable. The book underscores the significance of communication, shedding light on the necessity of clarity and honesty in building a lasting connection. The only notable omission is the lack of a conclusive discussion on the future and primary partnerships, which slightly diminishes the story's resolution.

In conclusion, the book is a testament to the power of love in all its forms, challenging societal norms and celebrating the beauty of embracing one's truth. The author has crafted a narrative that deviates from traditional romantic tales, enriching the genre with a story that is as much about personal growth as it is about romance. This book is a must-read for those eager to delve into the depths of love beyond conventional boundaries, offering a fresh, realistic, and beautifully rendered take on the freedom and openness of love.

Sharing Shane by Hannah Murray

Just added a new author to my must-read list – love it when that happens. Silly me, started reading before midnight thinking I could read a chapter, put the book down, and pick up again in the morning. At 1:30am I forced myself to turn the light off then couldn’t go to sleep thinking about Veronica, Shane and Wyatt. Finally finished the book today but it was hard waiting to get back to their story, that’s for sure!

What I liked:
* Veronica: speech therapist, previously a teacher but wanted more one-on-one with those she works with, bright, open, knows what she likes, and knows she doesn’t like being cheated on by Derek
* Shane: successful businessman, woodworker, busy, in a relationship with Wyatt, grumpy at times and a talker at others, what he likes, believes in communication and boundaries, know
* Wyatt: pediatric nurse, married to Seth, in committed relationship with Shane, flirtatious, tells it like it is, not afraid of who he is, good friend and loving partner
* Delia: Veronica’s BFF of over a decade, wise, wealthy, and a good friend
* Lucy: support group member that becomes Veronica’s friend and provides good advice
* That Veronica is not a pushover and knows when she is done with Derke and isn’t afraid to tell him so
* The way that the relationship comes together for Veronica and Shane, the strength of the love between Shane and Wyatt, and the way the three bond as friends
* Learning more about polyamory vs nonmonogamy
* The maturity of the characters, their ability to communicate (most of the time) and the way communication, trust and respect are a part of the story – I believe they are the cornerstones of a relationship and a breakdown in a relationship is due to one or more of these
* That all three main characters are fantasy-worthy in all ways always
* That I am still smiling as I think about some of the things that happened in this book
* All of it except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like but mostly…
* Derek the doofus who was called much worse by Delia

Did I enjoy this book? Definitely!
Would I read more by this author? Without a doubt!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I want to say this was 'chef's kiss' perfection... but honestly, it was more than a kiss. It was a make-out session with the chef. Consensually and respectfully, of course :P

This was my first read from Hannah Murray and I will 1000% go back to their books again and again. This was spicy, sexy, funny, and an absolutely great representation of polya romance with queer characters. At least in my humble-ish opinion! Open and honest communication, sensitivity and understanding - It's a great portrayal of a complex, loving dynamic. Murray's relationships, friendships, found families and communities are so enjoyable and make the entire read so much more engaging and inspiring.

Veronica is an incredible, strong, bad a$$ who knows what she will not put up with. Shane is a successful artisan who is a bit of a taciturn grump. Does not say much until he has too but is also great at communicating (for the most part). We meet Shane's polya partner, some best friends - except for the jerk ex, everyone was pretty great!

If you like queer reads, enjoy steam and spice, want a book with great writing and engaging characters - this is a good one to pick up!

Veronica is reeling from finding her boyfriend of two years mid-act with her neighbor IN VERONICA"S BEDROOM. She boots him and now she has to take their romantic vacation alone. Except for romance reasons, she ends up sharing a beach cottage with Shane, boyfriend of married Wyatt. And they are into each other immediately. Shane and Veronica, but Wyatt's not out of the question...

This a sweet, hot, poly romance. Veronica is an outsider to poly relationships at the beginning, and isn't sure how she feels about more than a fling with Shane. They do a lot of communicating throughout, and Veronica goes in with open eyes, trying to learn if the poly life is for her.

The communication is so good. The lust is so good. The terrible ex-boyfriend shows up a couple times, but doesn't become the focus of the second half. If you're interested in a hot, poly romance that educates its readers about one way polyamory can work, this is for you.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I don’t know what I was expecting from this story— I’m pretty new to this author and I love the honesty in her writing and the flow of her prose—but I loved the grumpy/sunshine, multifaceted, emotionally open & mature characters. If you’ve ever wondered about the logistics of polyamorous relationships, this book will give some ideas of the thoughts, honesty, and soul-searching that goes into negotiating the possibility of one.
Having just got rid of her cheating ex, Veronica Black needs a partner for her resort holiday or she’s going to miss out. Her unknown friend-of-a-friend turns out to be a stunningly handsome (but grumpy) man. Shane’s boyfriend Wyatt (and his husband Seth) are also on this trip. Sound complicated? While the plot is simple, it’s the characters that made this story for me. The kissing scenes are deliciously written in sensual detail, and I could feel the loving emotion. There’s a huge amount of respect, consent and communication in the encounters. A definite favourite.

I’m in love with these characters: Hannah Murray infused them with love, laughter, compassion, and a sense of family. Veronica definitely needs to send her ex a thank you for showing his true colors before she spent any more of her heart on him. Her bff, Delia, is too much and I wish I had a friend like her. Shane is a gentleman, a sexy god, and nearly perfect.

Veronica and Shane share a trip and a condo together that turns into so much more. He’s in a relationship with Wyatt, but they’re both bi and they love to share with the right woman. The chemistry is so freaking volcanic between Veronica and Shane that they can’t get enough of each other. I love how well they connect, he teaches her about poly relationships and how important communication is, and when Wyatt’s gorgeous self makes a threesome it’s sublime! The epilogue is where I would love to be a part of to experience the joy of family!.

Things happen to lead you to something better so hang on you won’t put it down until the last page has been turned. Veronica is a sweetheart finding out her boyfriend has been/still cheated on her with the neighbor so she decides to go on the planned vacation she needed the getaway learning the boyfriend’s deposit is non-refundable but a friend steps in to assist with finding a roommate not expecting she would get to room with a sexy man nice eye-candy. Shane sexy as all get out who is in a relationship with Wyatt but the moment, he lays eyes on his roommate for a hot second and when he talks to Wyatt who encourages the connection now to convince his girl they are meant to be by explaining he is bi/polyamorous. So, getting to know each other with the magnetic pull between them can’t be ignored but will the three of them make it work, will what the world thinks of them affect them, will her ex. realize he messed up the best thing he had, and can the three of them find something that fits their chosen lifestyle?

Sharing Shane is really a feel good book focusing on navigating a polyamorous/non monogamous relationship between Shane and Veronica. While Shane is already in a relationship and Veronica just got out of one they needed each other more than they thought.

I was grinning ear to ear during this whole book and there was no 3rd act breakup which gave me a much needed reprieve from other romance books. Dalia, Veronica's best friend, is the friend we all need and I loved every second she had book time (I would love a Blurb on how her and Julian met)

I had to force myself to put the book down or I would have read the whole thing in one night and not sleep, it was that good. The book was more than just spice and had great relationship and character building. I did find it hard in the beginning keeping up with who everyone was but quickly caught on. The ending was great and didn't have me asking about additional details or needed to explore more of their relationship.

Sharing Shane is another perfect example why Hannah is one of my must-read authors. A beautiful story of love outside the social 'norms', it put a smile on my face - and taught me a thing or two in the process! Wyatt, Shane and Veronica are all loveable characters with great personality quirks and explosive chemistry between them and all the sexy times - in every possible constellation - are steamy hot, yet also full of care and tenderness. Explanations of different types of open relationships are cleverly woven into the romance and the pitfalls they have to navigate are very realistically portrayed. I would have loved to have seen a more committed ending, but it is a HEA nonetheless. An absolute must-read and great addition to my keeper shelf. I can't wait to see what Hannah's got for us next!.

I really enjoyed reading Sharing Shane, the steam level was super hot and it was very humerous, I laughed so much reading it - Delia, Veronica's best friend is hilarious, but it wasn't just her, there were many funny bits, but also, serious aspects, it was a very well rounded read, all the characters, main as well as supporting, had good depth and added to the story as a whole.

The book details polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships, despite having previously read many books with more than two people involved in a relationship, I don't think I have read a book with a relationship quite like this before, it was very interesting and so well described, communication being the key!

I would love to read more books by Hannah Murray like this, or Delia and her husband, or Wyatt and Seth, hint hint.

Thank you to @netgalley and Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op for an ARC of Sharing Shane in exchange for an honest review. Sharing Shane by Hannah Murray will be published on March 19, 2024.

I was first introduced to Hannah Murray via her F.I.L.T.H. series, which involves a variety of romantic and sexual scenarios. I like that about her work. Yes, it can appeal to some people's kinks but she treats sexual identities with respect and tact. Sharing Shane depicts polyamory and non-monogamy. I appreciated Murray making a distinction and showing the different ways they can play out in relationships. The book emphasizes communication and boundaries. Was the book sexy and spicy?? Heck yeah. But, more importantly to me, it was a learning experience. So, I give it 4 stars out of 5 because it demonstrates depth and is representative of various romantic and sexual relationships. It isn't just another spicy romance.

Love this!

Veronica is reeling from her boyfriend’s betrayal and ends up on a luxury holiday with a twist.
You see, she caught him in the act, literally, right before their planned holiday. So to get revenge she cancels his ticket, removes his name from the booking and goes by herself. Her best friend convinces her to take a virtual stranger, Shane, along as she can only keep the holiday if the booking is for two. What she doesn’t expect is to meet this strikingly handsome man who makes her rethink her entire outlook on relationships and also makes her feel like the only woman alive.

This is a story about a polygamous relationship and how any happy ever after is possible if you are open-minded enough to want it.

Hannah Murray can pretty much do no wrong for me and I was so excited to get this advanced copy to read! The book is low key but explores some interesting things around poly relationships. Murray writes friendships and communities really well and even though Wyatt and Shane were boyfriends I loved how their friendship worked in this, with Wyatt pushing Shane to go after what he wanted with Veronica. The steam was super hot as always and overall I just loved the more is more approach to love and relationships in this. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. I've not read anything else by Hannah Murray, but this book was a surprise in a very good way. This book takes polyamory to a whole different level than is usual in romance books. There are a lot more people in play in this read and some interesting secondary characters as well. This story focuses on the budding relationship between Veronica and Shane. But also includes Shane's long-term lover Wyatt, who is in a committed relationship with another man. But both Shane and Wyatt are both bi-sexual and both are attracted to Veronica. I very different look at all that polyamory can be.

Wavered between 2 and 3 stars, but Shane's verbal attack without even giving Veronica a chance to speak was really horrible on re-read - he jumps to conclusions then flat out accuses her of lying when she tries to express her feelings. She should've taken her friend's advice and let him hang longer. His ILY was an insufficient grovel. For someone who kept emphasizing communication, boundaries and respect (yet who thought grunting was appropriate communication, and who knew perfectly well she was entirely new to polyamoury), he certainly was quick to drop all 3 when he thought she'd overstepped. 4 stars for Wyatt, 3 for Veronica (let Shane off the hook far too early) and 1 for Shane.

Perfect little polyamory romance between the recently jilted Veronica and Shane, who also has a boyfriend named Wyatt. I really like the way this author approaches kink and polyamory- it’s done really well, underscoring the importance of good communication and consent in these types of relationships (don’t get me wrong, they’re important in ALL relationships) but she does a lot of work within the romance to make sure everyone is on board with everything. It was steamy and fun and sexy and I liked the side characters a lot.

ARC from author. Opinions are all mine.

This is a poly romance that does a really nice job of exploring individual dynamics within a polycule. Veronica is getting over a bad break-up when she meets Shane, who is in a relationship with Wyatt, who is also married to another man. Veronica is new to polyamory and I appreciate that she was nonjudgmental and curious, even if she wasn't sure how she would fit in the dynamic at first.

As per Hannah Murray's usual, the sex is well-written and I love how consent is always at the forefront of any of her sex scenes while still being super hot.

Thank you to NetGalley for the e-arc.

As always, Hannah Murray delivers a hot yet thoughful erotic romance with exploration of queer life.

The main plot is in the title. Can Veronica's holiday fling with Shane grow into something more once they are back home? Shane is poly and Veronica knows this from the beginning. They have a bit of a grumpy-sunshine thing going on holiday and that starts to grow once they are back home.

Really great discussions of consent and how poly works for the characters. Friends or both are also well fleshed out.

Highly recommend.

Sharing Shane was unexpectedly emotional and sweet! I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into and erroniously assumed that Shane was subby, which is generally not my thing. (Though if Hannah wrote, I'd give it go!) I was delighted to meet our characters and find that there isn't so much of a power exchange, but lots of love and emotions, and delicious sexiness. I appreciate how respectful everyone is of all the relationships and boundaries. It's so refreshing to read a book with GREAT communication!

I received a copy through Booksprout.

I tend to prefer closed arrangements, mainly because too many characters and relationships can confuse me, so this was different for me.
This is an enjoyable, well written book.
The characters are well rounded, even the ex to some extent, and it ends on a HEA and maybe a HFN.

I like this book but I don’t think it is for me.
I’d like to read more from the author. Being a mood reader means that it might just not be the right time for me to have read it. I highly recommend it though.

Complicated Relationships
When Veronica needs a second person to go on vacation with her, her friend recommends Shane. Throw in one bed, Shane’s boyfriend, Veronica’s ex-boyfriend and some intense attraction, and it’s one holiday fling to remember. But what about when they get back? This story presents polyamory and the importance of communication in such a powerful way, it elevates what would be a basic MMF story into some more. I loved reading how Shane and Veronica navigated their relationship, and Wyatt and Delia were both a hoot. A great read.

"And here I was worried this would be weird for you."

Once again Hannah scores with this wonderful MMF romance. I loved all three of them, Veronica, Wyatt and of course Shane. I actually found myself envying her more than once. Poly romances can be hard to write well but Hannah does a great job. There was plenty of steam and I really felt the connection between them all. No spoilers although there isn't a lot of outside plot. The focus of this book is on the relationship building between the three of them and watching them fall in love.
