My girl Mianmian standing up to Jin Guangshan and the clans at the Golden Carp Tower (one of my favorite scenes in The Untamed) and she’s not even mentioned by name in the manhua 😭 At least she’s recognized by Lan Zhan after she leaves. I’m still wondering what was said in the conversation between her and LZ.

The story picks up right where the last volume ended and doesn’t waste time diving back into the action—or rather, the dialogue. Like a lot of manhua adaptations, the pacing here feels like someone hit fast-forward. Key moments flash by with barely any buildup, and scenes jump from one to the next without much connective tissue. It’s more telling than showing this time around, with conversations doing most of the heavy lifting while the action gets sidelined. For a series packed with dramatic tension and supernatural combat, it’s a bit frustrating to see those moments trimmed down or skipped entirely.

Despite the pacing issues, there are flashes of emotional depth that still land. The bond between characters continues to be the real heart of the story, with quieter scenes of reflection and conflict offering some of the most memorable beats. And while the plot charges ahead with minimal breathing room, there are still a few standout character moments—particularly in the way relationships shift, evolve, or quietly fracture. The way misunderstandings ripple through group dynamics hits just as hard as any battle scene could, which says a lot about how well these characters are written.

The art style isn’t my usual preference, but somehow it works here. There’s a fluidity to it that carries the emotion even when the panels get crowded or chaotic. Still, I can’t help but wish the storytelling gave those visuals more space to shine. This volume has its strong points, but they’re often buried under rushed transitions and dialogue-heavy exposition. For fans committed to the series, it’s worth reading—but if you’re hoping for a more balanced blend of action and story, this one might leave you wanting more.

Se está entendiendo más la historia, pero se nota que le han sacado cosas porque me falta contexto, es momento de leer los libros.

Lejos lo mejor fue en beso que le da Lan Zhan a Wei Xuxian en el árbol, lo dejo temblando y sin saber quién fue!!

Me molesta que sus propios hermanos de cultivación, en especial Jiang Cheng, no sean capaces de apoyarlo y le dan la espalda, entiendo que puede ser extraño pero Jiang Cheng le tiene envidia y eso me da rabia porque Wei Xuxian siempre ha tenido que demostrar más por sus orígenes humildes y ser huérfano.

Cuando Jiang Yanli lo defiende me gusta bastante y me da pena que no supiera del matrimonio con Jin Zixuan porque dan a entender que no va a poder ver a su hermana de cultivación casarse con la persona que quiere, a pesar que no lo considera digno.

Lan Zhan siempre lo mejor con Wei Xuxian!

Also, FIRST KISS. AHHH. The fact they drew a Pinocchio nose on Wei Ying after he lied about being experienced had me dying 🤣

But also, Wen Ning 😭 I think the artist did a great job with showing his pain.
It’s unfair how this volume was both so funny and sad at the same time.

Next volume is going to be rough.

The timeline seems to be slightly different and far more detailed in this version than in the anime, though this is also a fairly common impression given the limited air time compared to print. Turns out it isn't just current Wangli that shows an interest in Wuxian, just Wuxian had no idea it was him at the time. Honestly, at one point I wondered if Wuxian would attempt to propose to his foster sister, but this game he has going on with Wangli is far more entertaining. It doesn't seem like others have picked up on Wangli's soft spot just yet, though he's hinted at a few oddities without names that have made other cultivators wonder. Now that we have the ghost general in the picture with both past and present stories, fear is going to rocket with all the assumptions given Wuxian's power. It's no surprise then that he arranged things to be on his own rather than affiliated with his clan given the alternating hero and monster stigma of his demonic cultivation depending on how it helped the other clan's narratives.

This story starts with the second siege of the Burial Mounds, but most of the book is a flashback to the aftermath of the Sunshot Campaign and how Wei Wuxian becomes the Yiling Patriarch. This book is almost 90% if not more, flashback.

The best news I have is that Wangxian's first kiss appears in this edition completely uncesored. The publisher promised an uncensored version, and I'm glad they delivered because it was important to me. Though it is uncoloured, and I feel like that might be because the artist released the uncensored version unofficially, and that art wasn't coloured. So, I guess it makes sense.

At this point, is there anything left for me to say about this story - I have read it so MANY times in so many different versions, and I want to keep doing it for the rest of my life - enough said.

I don't really have much to say here (I have the same thoughts about every volume pretty much) but I love this series so much and really enjoy these comic adaptations. I think the art style is beautiful, and yet also manages to perfectly hit the comedic notes when needed to enhance the story. These are just so fun. My only continued critique is that I don't think you could read these easily if you hadn't already read the novels and/or watched an adaptation, as they are a bit choppy and jump about a lot, but they're very fun for those familiar with the story!

Lan Zhan telling Xichen he wants to bring Wei Ying back and hide him :( Xichen! you should have done something. your lil brother rarely asked for things.
this book hurts so much because Wei Ying wanted so much to protect his family and friends and the authority kept fighting and twisting his words. all those idiots following someone else's words. and yes he did lose control sometimes but it was because they kept pushing and accusing him

Really good volume - and some key moments in the development of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangxi's relationship, including that *kiss* scene. I do wish there was a little more visually to show the jumps in time - there is Wei Wuxian's clothing of course, but Lan Wangxi looks super similar in both timelines so it is not as obvious. We're definitely getting to the downfall part of the arc, so I'm assuming there won't be too many more volumes left!

Some of my favorite moments are in this volume, such as the famous blindfolded kiss! A lot was covered here but none of the sun shot campaign. I can't remember if they go over it in more detail elsewhere or if they just decide to skip it for the comic. Not that there was a lot for it to cover... Anywho, it leaves off before the devastating incidents of his past. The moments that forever change him are probably going to be what starts the next volume.

Estoy cautivada por las ilustraciones. Las emociones fueron muy bien plasmadas. El beso fue de mis momentos favoritos. Mucho desenfreno de Lan Zhan. Aquí se nota más lo mucho que él se interesa por Wei Wuxian y cómo lo apoya aunque él insista en seguir por la cultivación demoníaca. Wei Ying también se ve atraído por Lan Zhan, aunque trata de negarse ya que tiene problemas más importantes que atender al haberse rebelado ante los otros clanes y rescatar a Wen Ning. ¡Amo esta historia!

This volume felt clunky and spliced together in the most random way. Maybe it's just me, but I was so confused. The pacing felt off, the story jumped around; I just don't remember the other comic versions being like this.
I still loved the art, characters, and overall storyline though!

Нам наконец-то рассказывают историю о том, как Вэй Усянь стал "злодеем" в всеобщих глазах и как он "обзавелся" Генералом. Все как всегда, короче. Пока он помогал справиться со злом, был очень нужен и почитаем, но теперь уже все тяготятся тем, какой он сильный. Он мешает. Печально.

Went a little too fast imo, I felt like I jad whiplash from jumping from scenes to scenes, present and flashbacks. Luckily I already read the light novel, but I still had trouble understanding some things and remembering certain characters

I love revisiting this story, and will be sad when I am done with it once again. Seeing these moments from the novel, with this fantastic art, is great.
