Another solid installment in the beloved Dragon Masters series! I read this with my 7yo and we blazed through it. This is a book that advances the storyline in which Zoltan breaks into the dream world to execute his evil plot. We learn more about Zoltan’s motives and end game, revisit a previous dragon master (Llew), and enjoy a cursory overview of the fantasy realm with multiple lands.

These books continue to delight my young readers. It's been five years since we discovered this series and they are still beyond excited when a new book publishes and they get to go back and adventure with Drake, Rory, Bo, Anna, and Griffith. This one was great, we did have to re-read Haunting of the Ghost Dragon: A Branches Book to get caught up because it's been a minute, but traveling with Drake and Worm on their adventure to the dream world was fun.

These books continue to have amazing illustrations, love the fast paced stories, and that I will see my kids picking them up and reading them on their own now. We're already looking forward to the next book in this series - which my now 7 year old can't believe she has to wait for.

Its a little hard to keep track on what is happening when you have to wait for a book to be published, so I didn’t enjoyed this book as much as the other ones, but it was still interesting.

Drake and Worm are summoned to the Dream World to track down Zoltan. They've been called there by Master Kishar and her dragon Mamu who are guardians of the Dream World. Normally, awake humans can't enter, but somehow Zoltan has snuck in. Can they stop him before he reaches the Dream Fountain that will allow him to make any of his dreams a reality.

This book was unusual for lower grade fiction in that the conflict is not resolved in this volume, and the bad guy gets away for now. Knowing the way this series has played out so far, I trust the good guys will prevail eventually. But for now, readers will be scrambling to get their hands on the next book. I guess if you want to introduce cliffhangers to new chapter book readers, hand them this series. I do like how Mamu, Kishar, Drake, and Worm work as a team. The Dream World was an interesting and imaginative one to explore too as it floats around on cloud islands. I'm glad I have the next book at hand.

Notes on content:
Language: None
Sexual content: None
Violence: There's a magic vs magic battle in trying to stop Zoltar. The magic either fizzles out or traps the other, so no one is hurt.
Ethnic diversity: Drake and Zotlar are European-ish in appearance. Kishar's name and the architecture of the Dream Gate seem to mimic Persian/Babylonian cultures. Kishar is depicted as a person of color in the color illustrations.
LGBTQ+ content: None specified.
Other: No conclusion in this book.

Well this was really meta for a kid's book. We dealt with the idea of being in a dream world and how to stop this wizard from messing with people in their dreams. I do wonder how this dragon master can live permanently in the dream world. Does she not have a family? Does she just talk to them in their dreams? Does she need to eat? Does she have a physical body somewhere in the real world? So many questions that may or may not get answered. I'm still weirded out that this wizard dragon is trying to find Maldred. Surely his flies in the jar would have died by now? What kind of fate is that?? Why is he even a thing anymore? Can he be turned back into a person? The idea of a wizard dragon is interesting--how much more powerful can he actually be? Some of these dragons are pretty powerful on their own. Like Worm gets new powers all the time. We'll obviously read the next books once they come out!
