Chance brings Nina Thomas and elderly Laura Chadwick together at just the time when Laura is in need of a friend to help with an interfering family member. Their growing bond is one thing that Nina will be sorry to leave behind as she relocates from Australia to England, but they promise to stay in touch. It will prove to be a significant friendship.
In England, Nina's path soon crosses with Sean Reynolds and she finds herself taking on a project larger than she had ever Lavender Lane. Apparently, the welcoming group of properties was a convalescent home for officers from the armed forces, although it has been closed for a few years. Reopening the site is going to be a challenge for Nina and Lavender Lane has a number of surprises awaiting her, so settling down and making it her home might not be straight forward.

Anna reads 3 novels a week. Happy reading, everyone.
What happened here? This book had no real story. There were no explanations as to what the great danger was or who the dangerous people were. There was no point to the plot and there were many mistakes made. It did not tie into the other Larch Tree Lane books. I was very happy to finish this book. Does not compare to the author's other works.
I have read so many books by this author and really loved them. Goodness shines through and they have a real feel good factor. With regards to this book, there was a constant message that the characters needed to be careful and ready to be on full alert because of danger and threatening presences outside the area they lived and worked in. But unless I missed something, this threat never materialised.
Would give it 3.5 if I could. There were too many loose ends and questions unanswered. I also found it a challenge to make sense of exactly who Sean was working for, how it all tied together with Nina’s surprise inheritance, and the whole set up seemed convoluted. If you give up trying to make sense of it and just go with the flow of reading about the personal relationships, it’s a story that’s certainly a bit different.
I absolutely love this author and her style of writing. I’ve read every book of hers with gusto. This book was a very easy read. Loved all the characters but this meant I finished it too quickly! However, I was left with a sense of disappointment as the story built and left me hanging!!! I hope this means another book is coming soon!
Felt this story lost it's way towards the end and didn't tie up the story line properly. Has Ilsa got a family somewhere? Was there going to be any trouble for Ned, were he and Ilsa going to get together? Was Nina related to Laura? Were her parents spies as well? Love a sequel to this storyline
I’ve read many of Anna Jacob’s books and they include terribly terribly nice people and usually a villain or two. All very unbelievable but entertaining enough. This book was just ridiculous and incredibly boring. Nothing really happened and the whole ‘adopt a family’ was just ludicrous.
Story started so well, but deteriorated steadily. Plot - what plot? Characters - some credible, some like caricatures and non-credible. Overall, a weird book, not what I expected from Anna Jacobs. So repetitious. It is like an unfinished manuscript, maybe there will be others to come in the series which will develop the threads into something convincing.
Anna Jacobs is my favourite author, so this story has been a surprise. I enjoyed it but not as much as usual! I have problems finding stories to match up to Anna Jacobs stories so I am a little disappointed with this one.
As much as I have enjoyed reading Anna Jacobs in the past, her stories have definitely lost their edge. This one was initially a little intriguing but otherwise quite predictable, and the dialogue was silly, as well as the secrecy of the whole project. It was a push to finish the book.
Very disappointing for an Anna Jacobs book. The characters were interesting but there wasn't a plot! Usually, you are gripped to a story to the end, where good overcomes bad and a love interest incorporated. All I can think is, it's a lead up to the next book in the series!
Sorry for this review did not enjoy reading the book was not captivating enough. Have read all of Anna jacobs books and always gave her 5 star but not on this one.

A nice gentle read, I loved the Characters and the general story line. I have read other books in this series, and they can all really be read as stand alone. My main problem would be though, that the story seamed to build and then end somewhat abruptly. It didn't seam to finish, somehow. All in all though, a nice book to curl up. I borrowed this from the library.
