To Steal An Earl is book 3 of The Sisterhood of Independent Ladies. It can be read as a standalone.
The story is about Sophie and Nash, both trained since childhood as spies. Sophie’s mother is blackmailed for fabricating Sophie’s fake twin brother, the 4th Earl of Rydleshire, in order to safeguard the family's wealth and status. This blackmailer threatens not only Sophie and her mother but also queen Charlotte, so the queen orders Sophie to marry Nash, who is to become the next earl of Rydleshire and thus squash any fake earl rumors and keep Sophie and her mother safe.
Although I like a good espionage plot with strong characters, I had trouble connecting with the characters. Sophie was too harsh towards Nash, even childish; keeping a grudge because Nash teased her and didn’t reciprocated her puppy love when they were young. She even resented him for becoming the next earl, despite the fact that he wasn’t responsible for all of that but was just following orders. Despite her attitude towards him, Nash practically worshipped her (his ‘swan’) from the moment they got reacquainted, and believed she would soon love him just as fiercely.
”I find your company as exciting as a stormy sea and as intoxicating as the brandy we shared in your sitting room” was what he said, shortly after being trown together.
I would have liked a bit more character development and relationship building.
The mystery plot had quite a few unexpected twists and turns but for me, it didn’t feel like it came together in a very satisfying way. The story might work for other readers and fans of the author, so I would not discount the book entirely. I guess it just didn’t work for me personally. But I am willing to give this author another try; I know some stories might just don’t appeal to you while you might find other books by the same author simply fantastic. So maybe just try out this book and make up your own mind. It has a strong heroine, espionage, spies, mystery, love and fierce and loyal girl friends - all the ingredients for a good book.

The third book in the series & my favourite so far. I really liked both Nash & Sophie, enemies to lovers is my favourite trope & this book highlighted why I love this trope. There’s spies, blackmail, sizzling chemistry & witty banter. I loved their journey to a HEA which wasn’t easy but it was entertaining. A well written engrossing romance

She has loved him since she was 15 years old and he was 20...unfortunately he considered her a pesky child and he broke her heart. Now, 10 years later, they are forced to marry by royal decree and that doesn't sit well with either of them. Nash finds himself falling in love with her but having her trust him and declaring her own love for him will not be an easy feat!
When someone tries to blackmail Sophie, her mother and the Queen, Nash is called in to help them oust the perpetrator and then when she gets attacked, he will do everything in his power to keep her safe but she's a stubborn one and believes with her training, she can keep herself safe. I kind of felt sorry for Nash, at every turn she was defiant! lol After everything they go through, these two certainly do deserve their HEA!!

I was glued to my kindle. Conspiracy against the crown? Check! A fierce fmc with a prickly exterior but with a kind heart? Check! A mmc who had no other choice that accepted what the queen demanded but ultimately falls in love with his new wife? Also check!
I loved Sophie & Nash together.
Nash wasn’t excited to be forced into a marriage but he sought out to make the most of it from the very beginning and while Sophie made it very hard at first, he didn’t gave up. I liked that about him. He just couldn’t help but be enamored by her because she isn’t like the other ladies in the ton.
Sophie had a bone to pick with Nash since she was 15 and unbeknownst to Nash, he broke her heart but now they are married. Sophie struggled because she found it hard to let herself love again because he was careless once even though he didn’t view her like that when they were younger.
The beauty of this story was seeing Sophie let herself trust again and hope that Nash would take care of her heart.
Nash decision to help his friend’s daughter without telling Sophie was very unnecessary imo. Just why would he subject himself to it all when he knew how hard it was for Sophie to let him in. There were other things happening so I don’t think it was necessary.
Alas he repented for his dumb decision and I like that Sophie didn’t give in right away but it also frustrated me a bit.
The whole conspiracy thing took a turn I wasn’t expecting at all but I liked it. I’m kind of sad for Merrit though but I hope I’ll see him again in the future.

Thank you NetGalley for another fine read. Sophie and her mother are spy for the crown. Her mother has been since before she was born. Her father was killed about that time. When she was born a girl they told everyone it was a boy to maintain the Earldom. she lived her whole life with a fake brother. Now someone has threaten them and the queen for helping them. She has called them to meet with her and has decided Sophie will marry, her brother will die and her new husband will be the next earl. The only problem is Sophie has hated the man the queen has selected his she was in her teens. But the queen has declared it so it happens and she is there to see that it does. Sir Nash is nothing if not polite to her and she realizes she still cares for him. Now they must find the person who is doing this to them.

fantastic
I was not disappointed with this third book. There is a villain threatening to put everyone at risk. Along came Nash commanded by the Queen to save Sophie but not everyone is saved. There is intrigued, twist and turns. Loved the conclusion. Loved the end.

As entertaining as the previous books in series. This one involves threats, plots, spy vs spy. Enemies to lovers to perceived betrayal, forgiveness and understanding to an excellent HEA. Lovely read!

As usual Maeve Greyson did an excellent job writing this book! It was a very interesting story. I really enjoyed reading about Nash and Sophie. Sophie is a strong, stubborn and determined woman in all she does except when it comes to believing in Nash and his love for her. I highly recommend this book!

The story was full of twists and turns, but Ms. Greyson kept the threads in hand and brought the book to a most enjoyable conclusion. The twist was surprising and unexpected!

Sophie Redwell, daughter of the deceased third Earl of Rydleshire her mother Lavinia, Nia Redwell, dowager Countess of Rydleshire. His runs a spy school for Queen Charlotte after her husband was murdered. She started it to help support herself and her daughter.then Frannie, the Duchess of Lionwraith, and Celia, the Duchess of Hasterton, along with Sophie and all the mothers formed the Sisterhood of Independent Ladies to help themselves and others in their situation lead independent lives after being left destitute from deceased husbands and fathers as a support system.
Sir Nash Bromley, once a student of Lady Nia, joined the military and reach the level of Colonel, when he was attending a party hosted NY King George and Queen Charlotte he calmed the king by talking to him. Now he is called upon by the queen now and again to help calm the king when all else fails.
This is Sophie's story of how she finds her life path. She is the weapons master, code braker, and impulsive one. The get things done and ask questions later.

A Tumultuous Relationship - 4,5 stars
I really enjoyed the story, it was well written, suspenseful, with lots of unexpected twists and turns and a few love scenes. It also shows how a lack of communication and distrust can jeopardize a relationship. The characters were both very likable and the chemistry between them was great, whether they were arguing or deeply in love. However, there were times when Sophie’s self-pity and Nash’s groveling became a tad too much for me.
When Lady Sophie Redwell‘s father was killed shortly before her birth and Sophie was born a girl, her mother, a member of the „Sisterhood of Independent Ladies“, decided to create an imaginary son so that her late husband's title and inheritance would not revert to the Crown. Sophie's parents were master spies in Queen Charlotte’s service and Sophie's mother still is a close confidante and friend of Charlotte, who willingly supported her friend's deceit.
When a blackmailer threatens to expose the truth about Sophie, her mother and the Queen's involvement, the Queen commands Sophie to marry her teenage nemesis, let the imaginary brother die and bestow Nash with her father's title to disarm the blackmailer.
Sir Nash Bromley, a favorite of the Queen, and Sophie were taught together at her mother’s spy academy. At the time, young Sophie was in infatuated with the older, womanizing Nash, but he despised, provoked and teased her, and Sophie has loathed him ever since.
When they meet again, Nash is immediately attracted to adult Sophie but she is unable to trust him and won’t have her heart broken once again…
It is a book for anyone who enjoys a good hate to love story with intrigue and suspense!

To Steal an Earl by Maeve Greyson is another hit! To keep it short, his entire series features mother and daughters who have invented brothers or husbands, as woman are not allowed to inherit. This way they are able to keep their homes and properties without interference. In this case, the queen has been involved, and allowed it to happen. It is actually a hanging offense, so everyone is alarmed when a blackmailer seems to know all the details, and has escalated from blackmail to threats, then violence. Sophie Redwell has used her considerable skills to find the blackmailer but now that the queen has been threatened, she and her mother must inform the woman. The queen’s solution is simple: Sophie must marry, her brother will “die,” and the king will bestow the earldom on Sophie’s news husband. She has even chosen the husband: Sir Nash Bromley. Sophie had known him when she was little more than a child and she loved him, but he had been cruel and dismissive. Now she had to marry him? Outrageous. One did not defy the queen, however, so when the special license was delivered the next day with wedding plans included, Sophie faced what was necessary.
Well, we all know where this is going, but it was an excellent read getting there. Greyson develops excellent characters and story arcs. This was a gripping novel, highlighting the danger in poor communication as well as choosing the wrong people to trust. Sophie could not even trust herself, she thought, as her love for her husband grew without trust in him. It was an exciting and emotional read. Thanks, Maeve Greyson!

Well, we all know where this is going, but it was an excellent read getting there. Greyson develops excellent characters and story arcs. This was a gripping novel, highlighting the danger in poor communication as well as choosing the wrong people to trust. Sophie could not even trust herself, she thought, as her love for her husband grew without trust in him. It was an exciting and emotional read. Thanks, Maeve Greyson!

I can't put my finger on what exactly didn't work for me with this book. I think in the end it was just that everything about it was just "fine". There's nothing overly interesting about the characters, the mystery surrounding the blackmail could have been interesting but ended up feeling like an afterthought, and even the relationship between the characters just seemed to lack something. Sophie is supposed to have been trained basically from the cradle how to be a spy but seems completely clueless as to what is going on around her. When she suspects Nash is seeing another woman rather than having it out with him or investigating what is going on she just runs away and hides. And I hated that her mother manipulated her the way she did. I know her intentions were good, but it was still a crappy thing to do. I also wasn't a fan of what happened with her mother, seemed a little emotionally manipulative and didn't really give her and Sophie the chance to work out their problems. As for Nash, I don't know what he was thinking trying to keep secrets from his wife given that there are always gossips out and about in London and he wasn't exactly being discreet. I really liked book 2 in this series (I didn't read book 1) and I've been a fan of this author, but this book was somewhat forgettable once I finished the final line.

I liked this story until the last 1/4 of the book. It also, got old how many times the friends referred to each other as "sister" and the H referring to her as swan.
The h has been in love with the H since she was 15 and he was 20. He looked at her as a young, undeveloped teenager, and treated her as such. Fast forward 10 years, and she meets him again and for months, does not let go of her anger from how he treated her 10 years prior. She was 25 now, I'm sorry shouldn't she understand why he acted the way he did?
What lowered my rating was the decision he made not informing his wife what he was doing for his friend. Both the MC had been spies and his decision to do something in broad daylight was ridiculous. Where his decision could be viewed by the ton, not a smart spy for sure. The h has many trust issues in believing the H would be faithful to her. That reason alone, he should have made better choices. Then what the h's mother and the Queen decide to do was over the top!
I didn't care for what happened to the h's mother. I wanted the mother/daughter to have a discussion of the choices that were made.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, standalone, little on romance, steam level 4 out of 5 and described several times. Nice epilogue 6 years in the future. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)

This is the third book of the series The Sisterhood of Independent Ladies. Although this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Rather than being trained in the art of being a lady, from a young age, Sophie was trained in the art of being a spy. Since she was young, she had been in love with Nash but all he did was break her heart. Now, because of a scheme designed by her mother when she was born, Sophie is now facing danger. The Queen calls on her favorite knight, Nash, to help protect her, and according to the Queen, he is to do that by marrying her. As he spends more time with her, he realizes she is not the pesky little girl he teased all those years ago, but has grown into a capable, strong-willed woman. He finds himself falling in love with her, but Sophie is unwilling to forgive the heartache he caused her all those years ago. Looks like he's going to have to work extra hard to prove to her that she can trust him and hopefully admit her love for him as well.
A very well-written story that kept me interested from start to finish. The characters were well-developed and intriguing and I enjoyed following their story.

5 STARS, HISTORICAL ROMANCE DRAMA
Maybe Greyson definitely earned 5 STARS for this high energy, interesting & intelligent storyline of Book 3 in her Series: The Sisterhood of Independent Ladies plus provided a great BLURB.
Great characters with some from earlier books of the series and the plot is different than the usual Romance Dramas that follow the Ton. Maeve the author has definitely put some spice into the daily living of a portion of the Tom's Ladies & Gentlemen.
Ordered by the Queen to marry Nash & Sophie who had not seen each other for 10 years, when she was just 15 yrs old & was slow to mature to the beautiful stunning woman she is today & Nash, who was just turned 20 yrs old was good looking but he was long legged without much body substance.
Now, Sophie is a stunning beautiful woman & Nash looks like a Greek God came to earth & to life. The reader is with them as they re-meet each other in front of the Queen & hear her decry. We get to follow along & with their consummation of wedding vows to daily misunderstandings as all of them know they are missing some truth somehow from somewhere & someone.

An enemies-to-lovers romance, feelings are explosive in this novel as Sophia and Nash are ordered to marry by the Queen, no less. Unfortunately, the road to love and romance does not run smoothly in this novel, but when did it ever? However, relationships are rockier than most as Sophia and Nash vacillate between being lovers and enemies almost to the end. It is only with heartache and pain that the conflict between them is finally resolved and the feelings they have for each become cemented in the future. I rather liked Nash but at times I found Sophia unreasonable. He is fortunately able to break through the offence he has caused and they finally find a way through the pain to each other. I received a copy of this suspenseful romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I enjoyed this story with all the characters that were within this book. The main characters were Lady Sophie Redwell's and Sir Nash Bromley.
Lady Sophie Redwell and her mother have been running their country estate since her father passed away. This is not allowed, but the queen and them are hiding it. So when a blackmailer finds out, her and her mother go to the queen. What the queen does surprises her.
Sir Nash Bromley is one of the queen's knights. The queen has asked him to come to a secret estate of hers. The queen has an agenda that she wants him to fill. He is very surprised by what the queen wants.
This was a fun story to read. It had action, adventure, and drama throughout. There were a few giggles within. This is the three book in the series.

Third book in the series. It's now Sophie's turn. Her mother was a spy for the crown. When her dad was killed, her mother set up a way to keep everything and not let it go back to the crown. But someone is threatening Sophie, her mom and the Crown. Nash is brought in to fix the issue yet he and Sophie don't get along. A suspenseful story with a few unexpected twists to it. Overwhelming sadness at one point and a look at honestly, devotion, loyalty and deceitfulness. Well written story with a few surprises. Each book can stand on its own yet it's better with the others included.

I loved this as much as the 2 previous books in this series. I love how headstrong and stubborn Sophie is and how much Nash has to work to win her trust and love. I was brought to tears several times so get your tissues ready.
I wish that there could be more but I may have to be content with other future works by Maeve Greyson.

The is a marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers. He falls first. The romance was wonderful but I got tired of the repeated enemies part. Nash was a great MMC and he did a lot to try to convince Sophie that his love was true but then Sophie would be mad at him again. I did not jibe with Sophie. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC. The story of Nash and Sophie was a delight. They faced so many sal many difficult situations the saying "True love has no bounds" was proven in this story. This story has many twists and turns that leaves me in a difficult spot, to tell anything gives away too much. This was a great read, well done Maeve Greyson. I highly recommend this book!!

wonderful story
Another great story by one of my favorite authors! The characters were well developed as well as the plot line. Felt like I was part of the story! Nash and Sophie’s story is beautiful and I’m so glad Lady Nia meddled! They belong together! Also loved the epilogue, it’s always nice to have the closure a HEA!! You’ll love this series and this book!!
