4.5⭐ Warning: This book will give you mental and emotional whiplash.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC. This review contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

This book picks up right where the brutal cliffhanger of book 1 leaves off. While Orah and Roan don't exactly have a 'forbidden' love, there are definitely 'star-crossed lovers' vibes and plenty of tragedy and heartache for good measure. The author continues to approach topics of trauma and grief with such care and accuracy that is evident in her writing. There are some shocking reveals and plot twists going on here that kept me so invested in the story and having to pick my jaw up off the floor. Courtney is weaving this really intricate plot with so many little connections and 'easter eggs'. It's like a puzzle that brings you joy but also hurts you at the same time. A great addition to the series, another epic cliffhanger, can't wait for book 3!

I’m really loving this series, and am now eagerly awaiting the third book. That being said, a lot of this book is torture porn. The first 150+ pages is of a character getting tortured basically non-stop. After a while, it became very tedious, and I just wanted the characters and plot to move forward. For a solid 40+ pages, I was tempted to start skipping ahead because I was utterly exhausted from it.
And again, I wish I could be an editor for her. I’d love to clean up a lot of the sentences and grammatical elements of this series.
However, I’m still invested in these characters and I want to know what happens to them. 3.5 stars for the second book.

I was an early reader for this book; all opinions are my own.

Bindings of Fate took what C.A. Blooming started in book 1 and ran with it. She did an amazing job of taking the grief, the trauma, and the many (MANY) other emotions, and making the reader feel all of it themselves. I found myself laughing at the sassy quips of our FMC while also crying at the deep pain felt throughout. I am incredibly proud of Courtney and her ability to give us a book I never want to put down.

I cannot wait to read the rest of this series, and I recommend this book (and Threads of Fate!) to anyone who will listen.

CW: grief, loss, torture, attempted SA, attempted suicide, some others. Please check all trigger warnings prior to reading this book.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team! “Bindings of Fate” releases December 1, 2024!

Dammit, the author made me cry again. Still debating whether to thank her for the story or bill her for the therapy we’re all going to need after reading this one.

Every Orah ever loved has been taken from her. Heartbroken and held prisoner by the king, Fate seems to have given up on her. There are greater forces at work, though, and few things are more dangerous than an underestimated woman with nothing left to lose.

I don’t know whether to classify this book as an ode to feminine rage or just a very long list of reasons why everyone could benefit from a therapist, but I’m going to say it’s probably both. Either way, you need to read it. (You’re going to have to start with book 1, though).

Because *spoilers,* I won’t be discussing the plot in a whole lot of depth. What I *can* tell you is that there are tears. Lots and lots of tears. The book does deal with a lot of heavy concepts, but beyond that there are just some scenes that are so sweet and so heartbreaking that really you should just bring an entire box of tissues. That’s not to say it’s all doom and gloom, though! There are some absolutely hilarious moments, and there are just as many (if not more) moments where the only acceptable thing to do is become completely feral and unhinged. You’re going to stay hooked from page one, and you’re going to love it.

How do you feel about character development? Because oooo is there a whole truckload of it in this book! It’s only fair, really, considering Orah’s entire life is just one big inciting incident after another, but watching how far she comes over the course of this story is incredible. It’s not all forward progress, but she’s getting there. Snarky, ferocious, and completely unwilling to put up with literally anyone’s bullshit, it’s hard not to love her. Despite her flaws, she’s a likable character, and one that I believe will be relatable to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons.

We haven’t even touched on the magic or the setting or any of the other bits and pieces that make this book so amazing. That’s mostly because we’d be here for months waiting for me to finish typing it all out, and I don’t think any of us want to be sitting here that long. You’ll just have to believe me when I tell you that the world of Comas and the magic in it are incredibly immersive. It’s all beautifully described, and it’s so easy to get lost in this story.

I loved every moment of this book, and I’m already itching to get my hands on the next one. If you love a fantasy setting with an MC who is ready and willing to burn it all down out of spite, a plot that goes far beyond what any of the participants expected, and a story that you’re never going to want to put down, then this is the one for you!

One further note: Both book 1 and book 2 have been incredible, but that content warning is something I want to reiterate— there are a lot of heavy, heavy themes here, and because it’s so well written you can feel that weight. Be gracious and gentle with yourself and your emotions.

Ho.ly.shit. I have no words to describe how I feel right now. This book made me feel every emotion. It was a little hard to read at first just due to the mental and physical torture (especially from where the first book ended) but what Orah overcomes is incredible. Normally I’m very good at guessing twists but I can honestly say this book surprised me with a few of the twists. Though I’m proud to say I always had hope for my boy Jes.

I absolutely loved the first book and was excited to read this one too! I was an ARC reader for both and I’m so glad that I read them. I definitely want to read more about Orah and Roan.

This is the second book in the of fate series and miss courtney did it again! The first book we fell in love, we broke, we cried.

In Bindings, we also cry hahaha. While the journey can be tough, and sad I absolutely loved the real life mental health rep in this book. And the ending will have you chomping at the bit for the next book!

First off a huge thank you to Courtney for continuing to have me on her ARC team❤️

I have been waiting to write my review till I had time to fully process what I read so here’s my honest thoughts:

-Courtney I love you and hate you at the same time. Girl the daddy issues you are bringing back up in my brain with this book are outrageous.
- I struggled so with the plot lines surrounding the deals and how they all intertwined but am excited to see where everyone storylines will end up
-I loved loved loved how strong of an FMC Oprah has turned into and genuinely hope she continues to be a strong willed bad bitch in the next book
- can we please have more of a Jes story line? I love him and need more asap
-lastly please don’t make me wait for the next one cause girl I’m dying over here!

I’m 90 pages in and I’m so wildly disappointed by the writing. I loved the first book and inhaled it, it was such an enjoyable read. The second is like reading a rough draft. It’s like a beginning brain storm of a story that is terribly executed - I keep stopping and thinking did anyone actually read this the whole way through? There are a ton of grammatical errors and sentences with repeated sentiments on after the next. I am going to try to finish it and hope it’ll get better, but so far I’m really bummed. It feels like super unintentional and almost juvenile writing.

Spice: 🌶🌶
This is book 2 in the Of Fate series. Book 1 is Threads of Fate.

PLEASE CHECK ALL OF YOUR TW AND CW BEFORE READING THIS SERIES.

Wow wow wow. This book wounded me, and I kept going back for more. The heavy grief in part one is something I was not 100% prepared for, and I ended up needing to take a break for my mental health, but I still loved and adored this book all the same.

This book is split into 3 separate parts.

More specific things I loved:
💛 Split POV for portions of the book to really see what each character is thinking.
💛 Realistic progress and mental health struggles of characters who are coming to grips with what they have to do.
💛 Some of the most realistic and heartbreaking grief I have ever read in a book. I ugly cried a lot during part one.
💛 Exploration of difficult parental/familial relationships.
💛 Unique magic.
💛 High stakes challenge and political intrigue.

***SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT***

💛 I loved that Orah was mad at Roan and didn't immediately forgive him. I loved that she wanted to talk about all of these things before agreeing to anything with him, that she didn't immediately agree to marrying him just because they're Fate bound.
💛 I loved that Orah and Roan got to see their loved ones one last time. I cried so damn hard.
💛 Roan gave Aeron the King's celebration instead of Aamon.
💛 This book has very little spice, but based on the length of the scene, the description, and the content, it gets 🌶🌶. It was so well done. Orah used something that triggered her and turned it into something good instead.

Alright, onto some things that weren't my favorite:
💫 I got confused in the last 100ish pages or so trying to keep all of the new information straight. It was action-packed, which is great, but it was also very information heavy and delivered in a way that I'm not sure is intentionally vague or not. Also, two characters hearing Death and its call left me with more questions than answers. I believe this is something that will be answered in the next book, but it did leave me confused nonetheless. If the vagueness is intentional, I'll revisit this when book 3 releases.
💫 Orah somehow just knows how to use all of these new powers with almost no training. I'm getting the vibe that these powers have always been innately hers, but I wish there was some fleshing out there.

Overall, I truly had an amazing time with this book. I love this world and these characters that Courtney blessed us with, and I'm excited for the novellas and, eventually, book 3 of Roan and Orah's story.

Congratulations on release day, and thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read this e-ARC. 💛

I would like to personally thank Courtney for getting me out of my almost 3? month reading slump🥳

If you want to read a beautiful book that will rip your heart to shreds for the trauma and pain your favorite FMC goes through?? Look no further! Truly though, Orah is by far one of my favorite female characters. I love love love her. But what she goes through in this book😭 Courtney has a way of writing trauma that is so realistic. It’s not shoved down your throat but you feel every single pain she’s going through.

Roan🥹🥹 we love complex men characters!!! He’s my whole heart. He’s so sweet and holds so much space for orah while also going through his own personal hell. I hope one day we get these 2 the beautiful, peaceful life they deserve😂

And the side characters!!! They never fall flat for me. I have such a special place in my heart for Jes and Moros:’)

I can honestly say that not once during this book did I know what was going to happen. LIKE AT ALL. The plot, the twists and turns will have you absolutely captivated. At one point some says “Orah’s has shock after shock” like girl!!! I’ve had shock after shock!!! I couldn’t put this book down and neither will you. This series (it’s literally only 2 books so far) has me in an absolute chokehold.

Thank you so much Courtney for letting me be on your ARC team (I genuinely SCREAMED when I got the email) I love you, I love this book, I love these character, and I cannot wait to continue this series🫶🏼

Some quotes I wanted to share:

“She could rip my heart out and I would let her. She could beat me into the depths of Shadus and I would thank her for it.” Yes you would sir🥵

“Men underestimate women my dear. Make sure he continues to underestimate you.” 🫶🏼🫶🏼🥹🥹

Book 2 picks up right where we left off and keeps steamrolling into chaos.

Bindings of Fate is very different from book one, delving deep into trauma - newly given as well as past - and history - Orah's, Comas/ the first queen, etc.

Orah is really struggling this book, and the trauma she has to endure under the hands of Aaemon is so horrible - I really felt for her. She is so resilient, able to handle what he throws back at her while also continuing to fight. Her mental health struggles, dealing with the trauma, and also her grief carrying over from book one make this a book you should definitely read the content warnings for. Be prepared, this is not sunshine and rainbows. BUT if you like heavier books with trauma, mental health, etc., then you should pick this one up!

Orah has been through so much, as has everyone else. I wish she would not be so combative and lash out over everything - this is a side effect of so much trauma I know, and Courtney (author) does a great job writing this because I kept getting pissed at Orah! I really feel for her, but it was frustrating to see her deal with things through either miscommunication or a general combativeness and unwillingness to listen to others. Now, I would be PISSED if some of this stuff happened to me also, and would want to be mad for a bit, but would listen.

Overall I really enjoyed this story - and can't wait for the next iteration of the series!

Song: Last Man Standing by Livingston
Quote: All my favorites from this book have too many spoilers so I am choosing to not post one. HA

Court really knows how to rip your heart out before, sort of, stitching it back together. I had the pleasure of reading this book early and it did not disappoint. I don't know of any other book that has simultaneously made me cry and laugh at the same time. It is truly an art. Book 2 wastes no time jumping right in where book 1 left off thrusting us back into the horrors that Orah is living through with the King and the love of her life's brother. The horror that Orah endured just so the King could satisfy his curiosity as to where she got her powers was a gut punch after the heart-breaking cliffhanger in book 1. I have never hated fictional characters more. However, the best redemption was watching Orah fight through her grief and find her strength. Do not mistake this series for a sweet little happily ever after, fun fantasy romance. There are many happy moments but there is so much grief, trauma, and death throughout both books 1 and 2 and therefore you should never get too attached. Court sure knows how to make you say WTF about a thousand times while reading her books and one should always be prepared for a vicious cliffhanger.

*All thoughts are my own.*

💖Bindings Of Fate by C.A. Blooming💖

Book 2 in the Of Fate series

I'll be honest, after THAT ending in book one (IYKYK), I was really nervous but also excited to see where the story goes. And let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed! If you enjoy books that take you on an emotional roller coaster, has a torturous but incredible slow burn, has well rounded characters that make you feel so emotionally connected to them, an FMC with feminine rage, mental health & trauma rep and enemies that literally make your blood boil 😅, then you will love this series!!

Book two is pretty heavy compared to book one. It dives deeper into Orah's past and the traumas she's had to face growing up. Although parts were quite triggering for me personally, as there are some similar traumas I shared with the FMC from my own past and even my present, Courtney has written it so beautifully.
There are plenty of plot twists, betrayal, secrets, revelations, tears, sadness, happiness, anger, frustration and fear. Yes fear! Fear of Courtney killing off some of my favourite characters 😅

Do yourselves a favour and add this to the top of your tbr list! I promise you won't regret it! 😊

Thank you Courtney for allowing and trusting me to read an ARC of book 2, I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to book 3!

✨Bindings of Fate✨

Well, Courtney sure likes to traumatize her readers, but in the best way! Bindings is the sequel to Threads of Fate, a portal Romantasy full of gods, unique magics, and mental health rep. Here in book two, we dive even further into the lore, meddling gods and fates, AND mental health journey. Our 2 favorite MCs, Orah and Roan, are put through the wringer! Can they come out on top?

Starting where we left off, Orah goes through myriads of mental torture as the king tries to determine where she got her powers. His mind games travel deeply- even into the pits of Shadus. Courtney gives us all the emotions as she unravels so many plot twists and keeps us hanging onto the edges of our seats seeking answers.

Bindings of Fate dives very deep into our characters’ pasts and traumas. It is dark but beautiful as they learn to accept the versions of themselves and acknowledge the truth of who they are rather than what others tell them to be.

Tropes you may find in BOF are chosen one, “I’ve got you”, mind talking, medium spice (light bondage), mental health and trauma rep, plot twists, and an epic epilogue.

I’m so humbled to get to read this gifted arc and be a part of Courtney’s team again. Thank you so much!

Knowing how Book 1 ended and where we left off... I knew I was in for a rollercoaster of emotion and could somehow hear Courtney cackling from across the US. I felt like I was holding my breath cracking this one open, and rightfully so. This book was so much more emotionally painful to get through than book 1. There were points there I had to put it down and collect myself. This book deals with pain, torture, depression, grief, and loss of a parent. So much. So please be mindful of your own mental health when reading.

However, for as emotionally painful this book is, it is equally as beautiful. Courtney does an incredible job with the themes throughout this book and is written in so thoughtfully.

The journey you go on throughout the three parts of this book is tough but so very rewarding. Granted, Orah frustrated me a lot in a Book 1... I adore her in Book 2. The strength, resilience, and determination she has, along with the eye-opening revelations she makes, made her one of my favorite FMCs by the time I was turning the final page.

I can't wait to see what comes next. If you haven't read Book 1 Threads of Fate... I highly recommend it. This journey is so worth it.

"Threads Of Fate bound together. A deal once made."

Whewwww man this one threw me for a doozy! This book hit me in all the feels I lost count how many times. This was THE sequel. It had everything I could have wanted and more.

The plot was plotting.
The foreshadowing!!! Done so well.
The angst and tension made themselves known.
The wtf moments? Plenty of those don't worry.
The slow burn is slowww burning and *chef's kiss*

I loved Threads Of Fate and could not wait for this to come out. Dare I say I loved this more? I did. I loved the world building in this, I loved the banter between our characters, I loved the tension over not knowing what was coming. I can't say enough good things about this story and I can't go into too much detail without spoilers and I won't do that to you guys, but every time I thought I knew where this story was going? Boom, another curveball that left my jaw on the floor. You need to read this book. You will either be laughing at the banter or yelling at the author for yet another plot twist. The last five chapters gave me heart palpitations and I cannot wait to continue this series.

There's some heavy topics in this story and may not be for everyone. Make sure you check those out before reading!

Thank you @cablooming for making me an arc reader for your books. I'm honored and I am obsessed.

Second in a series, please read in order.

The emotional rollercoaster this book puts you through. The author really likes to traumatize and throw us in loops in the best way possible. This is a high fantasy romance with magic, Gods and Fates. This picks up right where the first book left off, so you are not missing out on anything.

I love seeing mental health rep, traumas, and past being brought up so that we understand the characters that we are reading. And possibly relate to in some cases; which C.A. Blooming is really good at doing.

Please check out the trigger warnings as there are many sensitive topics.

And thank you to the author for allowing to me to ARC read for you again!

Orah was finally beginning to find her power and her place in the Land of Gods, until everything was taken from her as she was captured by the King of Gods. This book is presented in three parts. Part one is hard. Torture, depression, grief.. Orah goes through it but she definitely doesn’t lose her fiery attitude. Part two is filled with hope and determination, which made it impossible for me to set down. Part three is full of emotions all across the board. It’s just crazy and amazing. It was so good! C.A. Blooming did not disappoint with this sequel. Bindings of Fate simultaneously stole and demolished my heart. I love this world and cannot wait for book 3!!!

Thank you to C.A. Blooming for the opportunity to be an Alpha and ARC Reader for Bindings of Fate!

I’m sitting here trying to catch my breath and write a review that does this masterpiece justice.

This is my first ARC read and I am honoured to have gotten the opportunity to continue this journey with Orah.

Without a doubt this one was heavy at times and hard to continue. But isn’t that what life is? Being faced with impossible events and unanswered questions. Wondering what the Fates have planned for us?

So many mind boggling connections were made with no shortage of twists. I’m still trying to wrap my head around what I just experienced

Phenomenal book!

OMG. This book had me from the moment I started reading. The emotional roller coaster is a thing, and this author is a good and plucking your emotions as she tells the story. The story follows Orah and continue the story from the first book, Threads of Fate.. This is the second book in the series, and I will honestly keep coming back for more.

I cannot believe this is only C.A. Blooming’s second book. She has become one of my absolute favorite authors, and I look forward to reading many more books from her.

Orah really goes thru it in this book. Part one had my heart aching, while also wishing immediate death on Marek and his father. Part two had me on the edge of my seat, cheering and saying ‘WTF’ on repeat. The emotional rollercoaster…So very few books make my jaw drop, and drop my jaw did, many times. Orah’s development into this resilient and strong FMC had won over this reader who was not an Orah fan initially. Be prepared, CA Blooming enjoys ripping your heart out, stomping on it, then by the end of the book you’re thanking her for it.

C.A. Blooming has done it again, Bindings of Fate is the pinnacle of suspense and unexpected twists and turns around every corner. The raw emotion is intense with all the feels and tugs at the heartstrings. Every time I finished a chapter, I had to read more to see what happened next. C.A. This was a rollercoaster of a read! I was laughing then crying and laughing again… my heart even broke a little bit at one point. I loved book one and this book is just as phenomenal. I love Orah!! She has grown some in this book and so have a few of the other characters!! The battle and the story of Orah and how she became!!! But that ending!!!! That was a cliff I was not prepared to be left on!!!! Can’t wait to see what’s next!!

Orah is one of the strongest FMCs I've read. She goes through hell and back and still has her fiery spirit. The torture she endures, both self inflicted and inflicted by the King of Gods, is unbelievable. The 3 parts of this book give you different feels: rage, pain, anger, hurt, sorrow, fear and relief.
This is one of those series that I wish I could read for the first time again! It is so good ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

This book made me feel all the feels!!! It had me crying...alot, it had me laughing and it had me fuming mad. This is the second book in the series and the story just keeps getting better and better. The ending of the first book left us in a world of grief with tons of questions. We start this book back in the grief and we have to go through it. Don't mistake that for a warning not to read it though it is totally worth the read!!!

ARC REVIEW

I absolutely loved this book! The first was mind blowing and this one kept up and did an amazing job at being just as good.

I don't know what Courtney put into these books but I don't ever want to stop reading them.

Once again my heart was ripped out and stamped on, but that twist was glorious!

I have so many unanswered questions, I need answers!

I am begging for book 3.
