Rupert is a Scottish Deerhound and is a bit of a softie. He seems to end up in the water a lot during his adventures but always remains cheerful. His favourite foods are pancakes and chocolate. Nell is a Border Collie and has spent most of her life on the farm helping Mr McTavish. When he retired, Nell went to stay with him in a cottage by the banks of Loch Ness. Now she spends her days going on adventures with Rupert. Wee Nessie is the daughter of the Loch Ness Monster and loves to fly as often as possible. She thinks she has become quite good at it and takes Rupert and Nell on adventures. She hides herself and her passengers from people on the ground by puffing out great clouds of steam. Landings are still a bit problematic but so far they only happen at the end of each flight!
It is Christmas Eve and Santa's reindeer have become dizzy flying near a wind farm. Santa can't deliver any presents until Wee Nessie comes to the rescue. Rupert and Nell fly with Santa and Rupert manages to fall down a chimney and have a close encounter with a less than friendly resident in the house! There are lots of other twists and turns in this Christmas adventure for Rupert, Nell and Wee Nessie.
Thank you to the author and Love Books Tours for our copy, here is our honest review.
Henry (my son) loves Rupert, Nell and Wee Nessie after their last adventure so he raced to sit down and read with me. This was a charming story about being kind and helpful, with a big dollop of adventure in there too. Wee Nessie bravely steps in to assist but has to face her mum when she's home. It was great for us to talk about everything that happened and he really engaged with the colourful illustrations. It's a great bedtime story and I bet we will be reading it several times before Christmas.
Nell and Rupert are woken by a noise on Christmas eve and find Santa and his reindeers in a nearby field. The poor reindeer have gotten dizzy going near a windfarm and need time to recover, so Nell offers to help by calling on their friend Wee Nessie to come to their rescue. Everyone hops on for the adventure and poor Rupert ends up on a mini adventure of his own when he falls out the sleigh into a chimney!
Review for 'Rupert & Nell Santa's Secret Helpers' by Bill Brodie. Illustrated by Rey Flores.
This is the second book myself, my 12 year old son and 8 year old twins have read by this extremely talented author. I am on the tour for all 5 books in this brilliant series so make sure you return on the 18th January for Rupert and Nell: The First Adventure, 25th January for Rupert and Nell: The Hot Air Balloon and on the 8th February for Rupert and Nell: Pancake Day. You can also check out my review for Rupert & Nell: The Chocolate Mountain that was posted on the 10th December. This book is the fifth book in Bill's 'The Adventures Of Rupert & Nell' series but they can all be read as standalones and in any order.
Congratulations to Bill Brodie on an absolutely incredible and page turning children's book! Amazon gives this book a reading age of 3 years to 10 years. It is primarily aimed at children but unfortunately at the age of 39 I can no longer be classed as one myself! However, I absolutely loved reading it and think that it is a great short story for young adults and children alike!! My 12 year old son enjoyed reading it and my 8 year old twin boys loved listening to and reading it. I would say children up to the age of 10/11 would enjoy it the most. We read the hardback version and if you are going to grab a copy of this book I would DEFINITELY highly recommend the hardback version as it is just beautiful with a gorgeous cover and stunning illustrations throughout. As I previously mentioned I will be reviewing all 5 books in this series, I have all 5 books in the hardback version and they look absolutely beautiful on my shelf so treat your children to the set. With Christmas around the corner this would make a perfect Christmas gift to any child, especially considering this book is Christmas themed!! It would make a stunning gift for any child to find under their Christmas tree or in their stocking on Christmas morning! This is a fantastic book about a Scottish Deerhound called Rupert, a Border Collie called Nell and the daughter of the Loch Ness Monster called Wee Nessie. When Santa's reindeer get dizzy after flying too close to a wind farm Rupert, Nell and Wee Nessie step in to save Christmas with Santa. With a storyline packed with fun, friendship, drama, Christmas, stunning illustrations, adventures, flying and so much more what are you waiting for?? Stop reading this and start reading this brilliant book now!! It has everything that a child could want in a magical page turning book plus so much more!! Bill's wonderful and vivid descriptions and evocative writing skills really transports the reader into the book where they will get to see Rupert, Nell and Wee Nessie come to life in front of your eyes, feel the magic in the air and have fun. It is ram packed with absolutely stunning, eye catching and colourful illustrations thanks to Rey Flores, with so much to see and discover in each picture. The book is laid out with the storyline on one page and the fantastic illustration relating to that part illustrated on the whole of the opposite page. Malaki, Hunter and Ryder loved pointing out all the different things that they could see in the pictures and discuss what is going on. This truly is a fun, adventurous and fantastic read that children and adults will love getting lost in. We devoured the story in one sitting as we couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next book it has been perfectly laid out with each double page ending on a full stop so you could easily read a few pages at a time too. It would make a perfect bedtime story that will send your children off into dreamland where they will dream of adventures with Rupert, Nell and Nessie. The book is filled with amazing adventures, characters who we loved meeting and stunning illustrations we all loved looking at!!
An absolutely magical, fun, festive and exciting book for children and grown ups alike!! Stunning descriptions and illustrations, action packed adventure and much more!!
❤️ Overall a fantastically imaginative, fun and immersive adventure book 💜
This book forms part of a great, new series of children's books featuring Rupert and Nell, two of the cutest dogs who live to go on adventures together in the Scottish landscape.
As you know, I'm a little obsessed with Scotland and take any chance to read books that will take me on a journey through the wilderness of this beautiful place.
This was my favourite read in this series - even though I've loved them all! I absolutely love Christmas-time and I think that reading this book to our little ones on Christmas Eve would be such a lovely, magical treat.
I loved the traditional Santa and reindeer as well as getting a sneaky peek into how he manages to get around without being seen and how he gets down the chimneys.
It was great to see Wee Nessie help out, but will she get into trouble with her mum again?.... You'll have to read to find out!?....
This was a cute story, but was definitely quite a bit too wordy for younger readers to read themselves - however, this makes the perfect series for sharing with your young ones and I could see myself reading these before nap times or before bed every night.
The illustrations are big and bold and I love the character in the animals faces that really draws the eye and prompts discussion. There's lots to see in each image and really brings the story to life as we read.
These stories remind me of those that my own Dad used to make up for us as kids - I can't wait to see what other adventures this pair gets up to in the next few books.
Tonight we read Rupert and Nell: Santa’s Secret Helpers by Bill Brodie.
It is Christmas Eve and Santa’s reindeer become dizzy while flying near a wind farm. Santa can’t deliver any presents until Wee Nessie comes to the rescue. Rupert and Nell fly with Santa, and Rupert even manages to fall down a chimney. There are lots of other twists and turns in this festive adventure for Rupert, Nell and Wee Nessie.
It was lovely to see some of our favourite characters from the Rupert and Nell books heading off on an adventure with Santa. It feels like perfect bedtime reading in the run up to Christmas. I really like that in each story the two dogs’ personalities shine through so clearly. It is also a lovely story about teamwork and helping others
The book is also brilliantly illustrated. The pictures are very detailed and really catch children’s attention, with so much to spot and talk about on every page. You could easily spend ages reading this book and chatting about everything you can see. Some of the illustrations are quite comical too, which adds to the fun. All this makes it a book suitable for younger children but still enjoyable for older ones.
We really enjoyed reading this story. These are definitely books my son is drawn to. If he sees one, he wants to read it.
What could be more perfect than a Christmas edition of these wonderful books. This time we join our favourite characters as Santa asks them for some help! What could possibly go wrong?? But with cheeky Rupert there is bound to be a mishap or two!
There’s a lovely introduction to the characters at the start of the book, just incase you haven’t met them yet. There are beautiful, large illustrations depicting what’s going on and both my son and I loved looking at them and spotting so many different details.
My son couldn’t wait for bedtime to get stuck into this. He was so excited to see what the characters would get up to, and he wasn’t disappointed. He laughed out loud several times throughout the book and was worried about Wee Nessie getting into trouble again!
We both think these books would make a lovely children’s television programme, imagine those characters coming to life!
So this is definitely a must read for young children (and their adults!) the book is well written, the characters are wonderful and everything is captured so beautifully within the illustrations.
Rupert and Nell: Santa’s Secret Helpers is part of a 5 book series, and is set in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland, on the banks of the majestic Loch Ness.
The Scottish Highlands are one of my favourite places to visit and I have so many wonderful memories from Summer holidays there, a tradition I now pass on to our three Daughters, so reading this brought back lots of those wonderful memories.
So here we again follow Wee Nessie ( the Loch Ness Monster's Daughter ), and her two K9 friends, Rupert and Nell, who must help Santa and his Reindeer after Santa become dizzy after flying close to a wind farm. So Wee Nessie with her trusty sidekicks, Rupert and Nell, must help Santa get back on track and deliver his presents.
So all in all, a brilliant little read that i read with our youngest Daughter and we both really enjoyed.
Like all good children's picture books should, there's lots of beautiful illustrations throughout, which highlight parts of the story, and the text used is a good size, clear and easily readable.
Thank you LBT for having me on this review tour and for this gifted copy of this epub.
Omg this book was so good. My son and I loved this continuation of this series. I can’t wait to get this book. I’ll be buying them all for sure.
I love all the pictures in this book. They are so well done.
So we are back with Rupert, Nell, and Wee Nessie and they are going on another adventure and I was so excited to read all about it we are following Santa and his reindeer dizzy which I loved the name who fly through a wind farm and Santa is to the rescue and they are trying to save Christmas and then guess what Rupert falls down the chimney I mean can you believe that. I thought this was great my son laughed at this part he thought was so funny. I just love how animated these books are. They really make me happy to read them cause they really have the magic in them and it’s about Santa which my son loved. I mean I feel like a kid again reading these books!!
Eek I can’t wait for the next adventure with this crew. I really can’t.
Love how each book starts off with an introduction to the characters with lovely illustrations to match as well as the short introduction to get children excited about what they are about to read.
For readers of previous books in the series, you feel a sense of trepidation knowing Wee Nessies past experience of flying and landing when she is invited to help - will all go smoothly?
This is the perfect story for children at Christmas as it is shows how kindness and helpfulness is rewarded and how Santa always knows!
Another fantastic book for young readers full of colourful illustrations and adventures.
This is the second book we have read in the series of five with friends Rupert, Nell and Wee Nessie. It’s Christmas Eve and Wee Nessie needs to save the festive day. This would be a perfect Christmas Eve read with Wee Nessie stepping in and up for the reindeers! Set in the beautiful Loch Ness with wonderful coloured illustrations this book will bring a smile to any age of reader. This was the funniest book of the series so far. We laughed a great deal and loved the festive illustrations. I liked the size of the font used and loved the sense of fun and adventure. We can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see where the friends head to next.
This is the second book in this delightful series from Bill Brodie. Again we meet Rupert, Nell and their friend Wee Nessie, the wonderful characters featured in these books. This time, the friends are on a mission to help none other than Santa himself. Wee Nessie is replacing Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve. But with Wee Nessie at the helm, it’s not going to be smooth sailing! The setting of Loch Ness at Christmas was just lovey. It’s such a gorgeous part of the country. Packed with plenty of laughs, it’s sure to be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages.
Rupert, Nell, and Wee Nessie go on another grand adventure in Rupert & Nell: Santa’s Secret Helpers, and it wouldn’t be complete without a side adventure by Rupert! With Santa’s reindeer dizzy after flying by a nearby wind farm, Santa stops by to enlist in the gang’s help to save Christmas. Of course, Rupert has to fall in a chimney! Bill Brodie does it again with another really cute and fun story that was enhanced by the always awesome illustrations by Rey Flores. A magical story sure to entertain kids and adults alike!
We are loving reading the Rupert and Nell books, they're full of adventure and my son loves the excitement they bring. Rupert and Nell along with Wee Nessie find themselves helping Santa. The illustrations in this book are vibrant and eye catching. The storyline itself is fun and I love the message it sends about being kind and helpful. I think these stories are perfect for children, it's teaching them to be better kind humans.
What another fun adventure filled with mischief. This was the perfect story for this Christmas period with Wee Nessie coming to the rescue to help Santa.
The characters are lovable and Rupert is so funny his behaviour and clumsy actions have us laughing.
The illustrations are wonderful and we had fun looking at them whilst reading. The kids were engaged in the story and we cannot wait to see what other adventures they go on.
Another story involving Rupert, Nell and of course Wee Nessie. This time the trio are having a Christmas adventure.
My son has been saving this book in the series ready to read near Christmas. There's lots of adventure, humour and plenty of magic as Santa is needing some help. We particularly like how funny Rupert is. He's obsessed with food, just like our own dog!
The book is accompanied by colourful illustrations and it's the perfect length to read at bedtime.
Part two in the series is just as cute! Robert was excited to read the second part! The characters being outlined at the beginning is really engaging for independent readers.
The story is full of fun as the dogs help Father Christmas save the day! Robert has read this a few times now!
We love the illustrations and will continue to follow the stories of Rupert and Nell.
