Brother Bear

Rate this book
In the touching Brother Bear (based on the animated Disney movie of the same name) three brothers hunt, fish, and play together, until one of them is killed by a grizzly bear. The youngest brother, Kenai, vows to avenge his brother's death in spite of the totem and counsel he is given by the village elder: "Let love guide your actions." But Kenai scorns this notion: "You really think love has anything to do with being a man?" he cries. When he finally encounters the bear, however, something strange happens. Kenai is blinded by shafts of light, and spirit animals surround him. Suddenly, the boy becomes a bear--and his one remaining brother Denahi is hunting him! It takes a friendship with a bear cub and a long journey for Kenai-bear to finally embrace the true meaning of his totem.

Whether they see the movie or not, children will enjoy this Disney storybook, with its surprisingly lovely illustrations and simplified narrative. It's likely the book will inspire readers to see the movie for the full dramatic effects--and then use the book to relive the action. (Ages 5 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

I love this, it brings back all the memories of the first time I watched the animated movie, it’s one of my favorite animations.

This is a graphic novel about the Brother Bear, same story but still cool. The art is beyond beautiful and very glossy.

A good book, not amazing. Basically just a summary of the film.

The best part about this book is that they chose pictures that clearly display the emotions of the characters, making it a great story to teach how facial expressions can reveal what a person is feeling. It also may help early readers build confidence with 'block text' as every time one turns a page they are met with a full page of large print text on the left and a full page colour image on the right. The large paragraphs are still easy to read as the vocabulary and syntax are very simple.

The movie is great, but being able to sit down with a kid & show them the movie in book form is such a great opportunity for learning.

Moc pěkná klasika, pěkné zpracování filmové adaptace, kde jsou použity hlavně ty vtipné pasáže z fimu. Příběh je zachován, ideální dětská knížka.

This book is a great example of teaching children the value of love and respect for others even if you don't quit understand them or may be completely different from them. The book takes us on a journey of 3 brothers who dramatically become involved with an aggressive group of bears. It follows the wise tale of Native American traditions teaching that animals, earth, and humans shall all live in harmony together. One of the brothers is transformed into the animal he hated and feared his whole life and later learns to understand a new way of life from the bears perspective. The Disney illustrations are very colorful and flowing and the messages conveyed are beautifully crafted to support such a powerful story in a way the child's mind can understand easily.

An enjoyable book that mirrors the movie. My son recently watched the movie for the first time and spotted this book the next day at the library, so of course we had to get this. He loved the story and the beautiful pictures that go along with it.
