Grace Horsley Darling (1815–1842) was an English lighthouse keeper's daughter, famed for participating in the rescue of survivors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire in 1838. The paddle steamer ran aground on the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland in northeast England; nine members of her crew were saved.
As news of her role in the rescue reached the public, her combination of bravery and simple virtue set her out as exemplary, and led to an uneasy role as the nation's heroine. Grace and her father were awarded the Silver Medal for bravery by the Royal National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck. Subscriptions and donations totaling over £700 were raised for her, including £50 from Queen Victoria; more than a dozen portrait painters sailed to her island home to capture her likeness, and hundreds of gifts, letters, and even marriage proposals were delivered to her.
In 2018, Hazel Gaynor published an adult historical fiction novel about Grace called "The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter". (Wikipedia)

Excellent read. The English is clear and if you get the audio CD with the book it is great for an Esol class. The enunciation is clear. Tim Vicary captures the true story well and depicts the horror of the shipwreck and the extreme bravery of Grace Darling and her father trying to save the survivors in tortuous weather.
4a. Daniel was a passenger of the ship, Forfarshire. When he was on the ship, a big wave came there. Then, the wind was very strong. The sea was very stormy, too. Therefore, the engines broke. the ship was about to be broken, but he found the lighthouse. He decided to evacuate there.
4b. When a big wave came, he told passengers and their families to evacuate into the ship. I like his behavior. I think this story was like Titanic. When the engines broke there was a short distance to the lighthouse, I was impressed by him going to the lighthouse with a small ship.
5. I knew the importance of each person's actions when his family or other people faced to danger. In this story, thanks to his behavior, all of passengers were saved. After reading this book, I think I would like to help someone faced to danger.
