The Soul Seeker: A Deserved Death details main character Tarias’ struggles with the emotional aftermath of a mercenary killing gone awry. Raised from childhood to serve as a Soul Seeker, or an assassin employed in service of the royal family, he discovers that he has been led astray. After killing the Princess Elreina and setting a chain of events into motion that will change both his own life and the world at large, he is forced to examine the crucible of his upbringing—calling into question deeply-held assumptions about himself and the society in which he was raised.
A really impressive and thoughtful debut novel. Grappling with questions of guilt, trauma, self-concept, and personal autonomy, The Soul Seeker is equal parts fantasy epic and Crime and Punishment-esque character piece. Strong writing and character development, complex, interesting relationships, and well-developed worldbuilding make this a really nuanced and exciting first glimpse into the world of R.R. Brikho. I’m looking forward to seeing where the rest of this series goes!

An exciting fantasy adventure that you won’t be able to put down. Brikho masterfully crafts a new enthralling world full of compelling characters and magical oddities to uncover. I was on the edge of my seat for almost the entire novel. The main character Tarias was a a thrilling character to view the world from for the first time. incredible debut novel, I can’t wait to read more.
