I thought this was a great book. It is very straight-foward and helpful for the shorthand beginner. The only issue I have with it is the reading practice answers end once you get a little further into the book. (If you closely read the chapters, you should have no problem).

As far as learning shorthand in 2015 goes, I feel it still serves many purposes from everyday note taking, drafting papers before typing them, or even (if you drag another person with you as you learn shorthand) writing secret messages to friends. I would suggest that you begin by learning the Simplified Shorthand (1942-1962) because it seems to be the most 'stable' shorthand, meaning that the brief forms were not oversimplified and writing speed can still reach a maximum of over 150 wpm with practice. If you are interested, I would recommend searching 'notehand' because it uses Simplified Gregg Shorthand and makes it even more 'Simplified' (if you will) in order for one to quickly pick up the skill of taking everyday notes with shorthand.

Moving forward, of course, I will have to continue my studies in shorthand to improve my writing speed. However, I will most likely re-read this book and perform an internet search for some reading practice. It seems it might be a little difficult because many things I find do appear to be in the Anniversary version.

I started studying Gregg Shorthand in the summer of 2010 but lost interest in it before I finished reading the manual. Now that I've finished that, I can practice my writing skills by copying the lessons (which is what I should have done in the first place.)

Sigh, I started to learn shorthand so I could write faster, but my ADHD undermined yet another self-improvement idea...
Someday.
