Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Attended New York University and graduated with a B.A. in 1963. Married in 1963, had three sons, divorced in 1976. Raised the sons, Andy, Brian and Curtis, alone in New Jersey. Worked for AT&T as a shareowner correspondent, then as an all-around assistant in a construction company, then sold bar steel for an import firm. Left that job as assistant sales manager. I've been writing full time since 1984.
Hobbies: knitting, crocheting, Tae Kwon Do, fencing, archery, shooting, jigsaw puzzles, logic problems, math problems, not cooking.
Don't do my own research, since if I did I'd stay with that and never get any writing done. I usually can finish a novel of about 120,000 words in about three months.
Tamrissa Domon, Jovvi Hafford, Naran Whist, Rion Mardimil, Lorand Coll & Valant Ro have come to terms with the Astindans & are creeping up on becoming the Seated Blending, however, there's just that little issue of it becoming the Sixfold Throne, rather than the Five. The idea of Sight Magic has people running scared & those who would create a new nobility are striving for control over the Blending. In typical fashion, Tamma tells the civic leaders that it's her way or the highway, obstacles are surmounted & our Blending is finally seated on the Gandistran throne.
Not a moment too soon, there is trouble coming from former Nobles outside the capital & from neighbouring country, Gracely. With great relief, the Blending takes off to investigate leaving government in other capable hands. While they're off adventuring, those at home in Gan Garee are having troubles of their own with those who would start the New Nobility & new Magic users gone rogue.
The premise is good, the magic interesting, but the execution is poor. The writing is stodgy, most of the characters lack development & are as irritating as ever, but I can't help wanting more. I've read them before & I still want to see what happens.
Let me make it clear: these books are TERRIBLE. The characters barely achieve two-dimensionality, let alone three-dimensionality. And yet there is something about these books that is so compelling that you just can't stop reading them. I don't know why. They're addictive, like crack. And somewhat less offensive than the Lorelle K. Hamilton oeuvre, so.
Nostalgia reread. O the drama! O the layers! O the chuckling and tut-tuting and self-assurance! I'd say probably the lowest amount of tea in the whole set so far, though.
Meh - a dialogue-heavy book in which the good guys all talk reasonably and sincerely about their world's problems, while the antagonists twirl their moustaches, makes for easy but fairly boring reading. When most of that dialogue is flat and the characterisations likewise, and the mechanics of the story's magical system are workmanlike at best… even though a tiny part of me *does* want to know what happens next (and therefore the book must have doing something right after all), I don't think I'll bother reading any more of this series.
I enjoyed this book in the continuing story of the Blending. Just when you think they will be able to relax and rule as the Seated Blending, there are new conflicts that only they can overcome. The relationships between the different members of the Blending, still make twists and turns which keeps the book interesting. Since this is the first in the Blending Enthroned trilogy, it has left me with the desire to read the next book in the series. It's good that it has done that.
I'm really not sure why I read this whole series....it really bothered me that each book was pretty much the exact same as the one right before it. When one character was going thru a certain problem it was like all the other ones were having to go thru it also but tweaked for there specific skill/magic. VERY PREDICTABLE!
Amongst numerous difficulties and attacks, the Chosen Blending becomes seated. After dealing with the capitol city they go on to face the invasion launched by the neighboring country which the Nobility had attacked prior. Everywhere there are major problems to be solved and people who are attempting to stop them. Yet they grow stronger.
Nothing is ever simple for our Seated Highs.... now that they rule the Empire they have made some changes, and need to poke their noses into the doings of their neighbours.... while doing this, naturally the old Nobles of Gandistra that survived the purge are going to try and restore themselves to power....
So, Bim's step mom gave him all these books and he thinks they are too girly... So Jen, if you are interested I have most of them! Otherwise I will read them and let you know if they are any good. :)
This is like the dreams I have so I really enjoyed this first book. The world created is right up my alley and plays to my tastes. Love the team work and the underdog theme.
Having read this before, I know how everything comes out, but I'd forgotten how much better the writing was this time around, other than GRRM levels of subplots.
