Katherine has been bought and sold from the time she can remember. One family that owned her was the Greene family. When Shelton Greene falls in love with her, his father tells him (in front of Katherine) that he cannot marry beneath him. Shelton goes away and his father loses Katherine when he gambles. Years later, Shelton finds Katherine but she refuses to accept his love for her because of the abuse she has suffered from so many men she feels she is unworthy of anyone's love, including the Lords. It takes a grouchy old lady, a cabin all her own, and the patience of the Lord to get through to Katherine that even though her life has been horrible; she is still worthy of love and a good life.

I thought it was a good book. It showed that with faith and the power of prayer God can help to heal your emotional wounds, but only if you try to help yourself.
