Survive the most extreme training in the galaxy? Done. Survive new threats out in the real world? That would prove a much harder challenge.
Years of training flew by in a whirlwind blur of sweat and blood, and Bawb had excelled like no other in recent memory, shaped into a Ghalian of extraordinary skill under the tutelage of one of the finest their order had ever produced. But even the most talented were not invulnerable.
A traitor was in their midst, and the elite assassins found themselves on the defensive, working hard to unearth the lurking rot and excise them with brutal efficiency. It was, however, a task easier said than done, and the risk of injury, capture, or even death for students and Masters alike was growing, and with it the urgent need for resolution.
It would take more than luck to ferret out the enemy. A challenge for even the most talented of their kind, and one that would leave a trail of blood in its wake.
Scott Baron is an American author with a penchant for oddball stories with O. Henry-esque twists.
Born in Hollywood, Baron credits growing up in Los Angeles with skewing his humor towards the offbeat and absurd. He studied abroad in Italy during his college years, returning to Los Angeles to work in the film industry as an on-set medic. In addition to writing shorts and novels, Baron is also a screenwriter of both feature and television scripts.
The continuation of Bawb’s story was definitely no disappointment. The characters, plot, writing, and storyline continue to be amazing! The author, to have written this, definitely has a very clever, unique, and innovative mind in his creativity. This book doesn’t go by the “rules”. Happy endings after all don’t exist in an assassin’s world. All the happenstances both glorious and bitter. Successful and defeated the characters act accordingly and they all grow and become stronger and (debatably) better (or worse) for it.
But I definitely have some issues with the main characters morals. But nothing explicit is there.

Aww man, why did you have to go and do that?! Okay, so I'm really liking Bawb's character arc, and okay, I suppose the author had to do what he did, and I guess I even predicted it, but it still hurts.
With that out of the way, Bawb is now an Assassin Adept, the rank below Maven, which is below Master. Many years have passed and he has been training with intense focus, with Hozark as a special trainer, and Demelza also giving him extra sword lessons. He is starting to go out on missions, but there is a traitor who is apparently working for someone on the Council of Twenty that is taking out Ghalians, either while on mission, or as the target of an assassination.
This is a well-crafted series that delivers a wonderful protagonist, interesting supporting characters, plenty of action and emotions, with humor in all the right parts. While this is directly connected to the previous Hozark series, one could start with this series as an introduction to the universe and go back and read the Hozark books. Regardless I would recommend that one read both series, although I really think the first series hit its stride in book 3.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from BookSirens. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap. I think every reader needs to start doing this to force writers to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
Master is long, long live the Master. Bawb is Master... pirate is dead.
The continuing saga, book 3 of this amazing adventure series, Bawb's rise through the training ranks as an Assassin, now an Adept, together with his fellow trainees on the same path as him. As adepts they now act alone with no oversight, so consequences can be fatal. Alongside their rise to planning and conducting their own assignments comes the shocking news that Elite Assassins are dying, due to their plans being known, leading to the conclusion that there must be a traitor in the order, but who is it! As usual the book delivers, with well crafted characters, more depth on the planning of assassins and as always high octane action, with plenty of intrigue and mystery.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Awesome space adventure Bawb is growing physically and mentally as he ascends in the ranks of assassin. He is a great character and is quick to learn. A very mature youth who is on his way to greatness. There is much more adventure, twists and turns, intrigue and suspense in this book three. I love that he is different and different sometimes scares people. Some love him and others fear him. There is a larger span of time covered in this book and a tragic twist that broke my heart. The book leaves the reader pondering the deeper meaning of Barb’s journey, who has far ranging skills, he has gotten quite dangerous. I am loving this entire series and looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend reading this series which will keep any reader fully engaged. Bawb has finally risen to the level of an Adept, all his hard work paying off. As an Adept he is allowed to go on more and more missions, making a name for himself and further honing his skills as a Wampeh Ghalian.
And during his time as an Adept, something happens that shakes him to his very core and sends him on a mission more dangerous than any before.
I'm in absolute awe at the imagery and storytelling throughout this series so far and I cannot wait until the next installment drops. An absolutely amazing read with tons of character building, world building, and nonstop adventure. I'm thrilled to see where this journey ends.

This is a marvellous series. I can't express how much I love Bawb, his adventures and missions, and his meteoric rise to become the Geist. His reputation precedes him. Quite rightly so.
There's a traitor in their midst and they need to find out who it is - fast - as their elite assassins are being captured, tortured and killed as a result of their plans being known in advance.
As usual, Scott Baron's writing, storyline, characterisations and actions are excellent. Be prepared to have your heart broken, folks. This one will hurt. Another unputdownable book. Can't wait for number four!
An excellent installment in this series! There is a huge amount of character arc development in this title. Fans of Bawb will have plenty to celebrate as almost every page delivers the goods. Missions, loss, stealth, one-upsmanship, close combat, and even a bit of a dark streak. If you like the first two books, pick this one up. You won't be disappointed.

I read an advanced reader's copy of this in exchange for my honest review.
I loved it! This one might have been my favorite of the four. Bawb is now at a place where it's time for the rubber to meet the road, his safety net is less and less and he's being trusted to get things done efficiently and precisely. And he pulls it off spotlessly! There were parts I could not put done until he'd solved the problem. It all worked out perfect!
Bawb has grown up in the assassin's academy and is now starting his career as an assassin. As time passes and the Geist is born Bawbs exploits are the stuff of legend.....but as always there are triumphs, tragedies and pitfalls along the way. Times are changing and Bawb needs to rise above it all. Absolutely brilliant and a pleasure to read. That small lost boy is on his way to becoming a legend.
Assassin: Rise of the Geist is book 3 in The Book of Bawa by Scott Baron. I find this series progresses from book 1 -2-3 perfectly. The characters grow at the academy and Bawa is becoming more powerful and he is also maturing. There is so much action as Bawa continues his Ghalian assignments. He also learns more about his background. I think Scott Baron was written a fantasy/SiFi that should be on everyone's TBR list. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Another great chapter in the series. Great action, Adventure and Suspense. Had me from the first page to the very end. A very hard book to put down. If you are a fan of Scott Baron you will love it and if you are not then you are missing out.
Did all of Bawb's training pay off? Yes. Can things go wrong? Definitely. This is the best of the story of Bawb so far. His training was incredible and the way he uses it seems to be seamless. A very enjoyable book with lots of action and adventure.
Love this series Bawb is an awesome character. Very action packed. Always fun to watch the character grow up and into their true power. Can’t wait to read the next one
As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed Scott Baron's third instalment 'Assassin: Rise of the Geist'. The book continues the story of Bawb, but with several twists and turns to keep readers intrigued.

Baron at his finest… the way of the Ghalian further explored, we go on a wild ride through the star systems, learning just how the Geist came to be, and learning just what makes a Ghalian assassin so badass. Sci Fi gold! Thumbs way up. XoDS
Novice, Apprentice but more than Adept, Bash has grown in all ways. Even the assassination of his mentor and secretly father, Hozark , does not buying to slow a web's progress. An astounding progression.
