Examples of the Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings to BS8110

Rate this book
The new edition of this well-known book has been fully updated in accordance with the current code of practice for the structural use of concrete, BS 8110. It describes in detail the application of the code and other relevant standards and guidance documents to the design of multi-storey buildings such as offices and flats. The book is written as a companion to the Reinforced Concrete Designer's Handbook, but deals with particular topics in greater detail. Principal features of the book are the 62 full-page Data Sheets and the fully worked design examples. The Data Sheets enable structural engineers to design reinforced concrete buildings that conform with current British Standards, Codes and Building Regulations, rapidly and efficiently. In the first part of the book, an examination of the effects of various forces on structural members is followed by individual chapters dealing with the design of different types of members such as foundations, walls columns and slabs. Part 2 consists of detailed design drawings and calculations for a fairly typical six-storey building.; The structure is designed to provide residential and office accomodation above shops, showrooms and a garage, so the individual requirements relating to most types of occupancy are discussed in some detail. The fully worked calculation sheets illustrate the way in which the information given on the Data Sheets may be used to prepare typical calculations to submit to a checking authority for approval. The accompanying 16 page General Arrangement and working drawings give representative examples of normal design office practice and the reinforced concrete details conform to the recommendations of the Institution of Structural Engineers/Concrete Society Standard Method of Detailing Structural Concrete. Examples of the Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings to BS 8110 will be invaluable for designers and others involved in the design and construction of reinforced concrete buildings. It will also be useful for students of civil and structural engineering and their teachers.
