Marietta Kay(e?) Garcia is a native San Antonian, who knew by the age of eleven how to spin a good yarn according to every teacher she ever faced. She's spent the past twenty years making up fo r all her transgressions on the opposite side of the teacher's desk, and the last five working exclusively with troubled children. She particularly loves an ethnic hero and married one of her own eighteen years ago. But it wasn't until their youngest, a daughter, was two years old that life calmed down enough for this writer to fulfill the dream she'd always hadof becoming a novelist.

One of my high school favorites. Would it live up to the hype?
Well, yes AND no... Sexier than I remembered, but the hero was less macho than I had recalled. Perhaps, my fictional loves need to have a bit more nuance now, ... but still a guilty pleasure:)

Rereading an old favorite. Elizabeth Murray at age 15 eloped with Evan MacGregor age 17. Her wedding night was painful and she renounced the marriage, pretended it never happened, and vowed never to marry. When Evan heard nothing from her, he joined the military. Elizabeth, when found to be pregnant, refused to tell her father, the Duke of Atholl, who the father was, and her son became a ward of her father, of unknown parentage. Five years later, Evan returns, having inherited his titles and requiring a wife to carry on his lineage. Elizabeth still refuses to acknowledge their marriage, and the rest of the story is how Evan claims his wife and son.

Interesting story. The hero and heroine ran off and got married (they're Scottish and we're already in Scotland, so it wasn't hard) but she didn't like it and ran away and lied. He joined the army. Now they're in the same place again finally, and she's desperate nobody know what they did, or that her son is hers, and most especially that the hero doesn't find out the boy is his. Problem is, he needs a wife and heirs now, and he wants the wife he already has. This leans toward melodrama, but doesn't quite go over. It's a good read and I liked it a lot.
