The police officer’s voice is steady as he tells me the news. ‘Your husband is in hospital.’ My heart pounds. I think about my children, safely tucked up in bed. Because my husband isn’t the only one with secrets. So, as I stand here knowing I have to tell my children that Michael is fighting for his life, I ask what would be worse? Oh. My. God. A.J. Campbell has done it again! With a blistering pace, ever rising dread, and top-notch twists, the author of Did I Kill My Husband? had me in the palm of her hand. Layered with dark secrets and a heaping pile of lies, there wasn’t a chance of me working out the whos, the whats, and the whys. Well, I did have one sneaking suspicion, but as the plot twisted and turned, I convinced myself I couldn’t possibly be right. But when the final revelation was eventually laid at my feet, it still felt both mind-blowingly shocking and like the perfect answer to this superlative puzzle.

As for the characters, I went from rooting for Christina to wanting to shake her more than once. Part suspicious and part oblivious, she was the perfect dupe for this stellar storyline all things considered. But it was the rest of the cast that perfected the plot. From the angsty teen son to helpful twin brother, no one was out of range from my distrustful side-eye. Was Christina really the culprit? Or was she being played for a fool? It wasn’t until the final timely revelation where all was revealed.

Done and dusted, this book was only further proof of why Campbell is one of my favorite authors. Giving rise to an anxiety that utterly oozed from the pages, I quite literally raced through this book in just a single sitting. A gripping domestic thriller that reached a rather chilling crescendo, the short chapters kept me reading way too late into the night. All I know is that yet again Ms. Campbell had left me wanting more. One more word. One more page. One more heart-pumping ride. For that reason, I can’t wait to read whatever she comes up with next. I do, however, have one recommendation. Go into this one blind. You won't regret it for a minute. Rating of 4.5 stars.

For those of you incapable of reading a book without perusing the synopsis first, here’s the publisher’s two cents:

The police officer’s voice is steady as he tells me the news. ‘Your husband is in hospital.’ My heart pounds. I think about my children, safely tucked up in bed. What will happen to us if he loses his life? And more importantly…do the police know where I really was tonight?

Everybody thinks Michael and I are the perfect couple. But everybody is wrong.

Because my dear, lovely husband was at the heart of a scandal at the school where he teaches. He was cleared of any wrongdoing. At first I believed him. Now, I’m sure he’s been hiding something terrible.

But I can’t tell the police a thing. Because my husband isn’t the only one with secrets.

So, as I stand here knowing I have to tell my children that Michael is fighting for his life, I ask myself: what would be worse? For my husband, the much-loved local teacher, to die? Or for him to live, and for all his lies to come home again?

In the end, the choice is easy. I know what I have to do…

I’ll tell the police that I would never, ever hurt my husband. But will they believe me?

Thank you to A.J. Campbell, Bookouture, and NetGalley for my complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Did I like "Did I Kill My Husband"?

YES!!!!!

A.J. Campbell's "Did I Kill My Husband" was an intriguing, compelling, and fast-paced killer thriller.

Characterizations were strong and the plot was super-twisty.

I listened to the audiobook read by Antonia Beamish, one of my favorite narrators.

Antonia slayed the narration of this killer thriller.

I had been disappointed with this author's most recent releases but I am happy to report that A.J. Campbell's new release is a winner.

A fast moving, quick changing, well plotted ‘Whodunit’/ ‘DId I do it’? story that started as well as it finished
Christina is not really that happy…….but she wouldn’t want to kill her husband….would she?,as the story goes on it turns out her husband was even less of a good man than she realised as literally daily new secrets come to light….however other characters we meet are equally up to no good…..the problem is who can Christina trust?..
I LOVED how I was convinced on more than one occasion I had this all solved and knew exactly who had done what and was completely wrong….the sign of a great thriller…..it is very cleverly written by this author
It is a very engaging story that once started I pretty much read in one go as there was little option not to as I wanted to know the outcome
A really good story that ticked and more every box for me

I chose this book because of all the stellar reviews, but it fell short of my expectations. The premise sounded interesting and the beginning drew me right in, but it became stagnant in the middle. The pace picked up in the last part of the book, but the twist just didn't completely ring true, and the ending felt rushed. It was a quick read, but a bit of a disappointment.

Christina hits something with her car while she is traveling home at night in the terrible weather. She gets out but doesn't see anything, so she guesses it was a deer that had fled away. The next thing she knows, the police are knocking on her door to inform her that her husband has been hit by car and is being treated in the hospital. And Christina has no idea why was he outside in that weather when he was meant to be at home with her kids?

This book gave me everything I wanted from thriller! The plot captivated me right away and found it impossible to put it down. This novel moved quickly, which captivated me from the start, and I truly enjoyed it. The way the characters, especially the siblings Christina, Ted, and Sophia, communicated with one another like true friends and family was another aspect that really stood out to me. I was also engrossed in the story at all times because each character had their own problems going on that provided tension and suspense from multiple perspectives. And I have to say that Ted was one of my favorite characters. He truly is the brother that we all want.

This had me guessing the entire time, starting from the moment Christina struck something in the heavy downpour and limited visibility even though she went outside to check and saw nothing, until the police arrived early in the morning and stated that her husband had been involved in a terrible accident. I kept going back and forth on my long list of potential suspects, unable to settle on one person as the guilty party.

The ending was excellent, full of deceptions and twists that were all explained! I can’t wait to read more books by A.J. Campbell, as this one was absolutely brilliant!

Another binge read from AJ Campbell! Oh my goodness, I could not put this down. So many twists and turns, it just had to be read in a day. I suspected everyone expect for those that I should have 😆 I seriously did not see that ending coming and it was brilliant!

Listen to this for a plot…. Christina is driving home at night in horrific weather conditions when she hits something with her car. She gets out but can’t see anything and assumes it was a deer and it has run off. Next thing she knows, the police at her door telling her that her husband has been the victim of a hit and run and is in the hospital 😳 I know right. You just have to read this to see what happens. It is crazy.

Thanks so much to the author and Bookouture for another fantastic read. Did I Kill my Husband is published on May 29th.

This is my first ever book by A.J. Campbell and I really enjoyed it. Cristina is driving home late one night and hits something. She gets out thinking it’s a deer or another animal but sees nothing. Then the next day, the police show up saying her husband was in the hospital and had been in a hit and run. Coincidence maybe? It sure kept me guessing! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published May 29, 2024.

Hands down my favourite book from Amanda yet. The grip this book had on me was tight. As with all of Amanda's books they are fast paced and really do capture you from page 1 but this was next level.

When she said to me that this was her biggest twist yet, she wasn't kidding and my guesses were nowhere near. Simply brilliant.

If you haven't guessed already I'm a big fan and I'm already excited for the next book to come.

Christina is driving home during a torrential downpour when she hits what she thinks is an animal. After searching for it and not finding it, she goes home only to later be awoken by police saying her husband has been the victim of a hit and run. Christina is terrified she'll end up in prison, especially when she starts learning her husband has been lying.

Another brilliant thriller by AJ Campbell. Full of twists, this one has me guessing throughout. I genuinely spent the entire time I was reading, believing I knew what was going on, but by the end, I realised I was completely wrong. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

This book started off good but very quickly I found myself bored. I wish there had been more action/suspense in the first half of the book. If I wasn’t reviewing the book, I probably wouldn’t have read on. The second half of the book is where it really gets good. There’s a lot of intrigue and more suspense. I was wondering what kind of person Michael really was and what truly happened the night of the accident. I did like the big twist and the ending seemed fitting. I was a little disappointed there wasn’t one more big reveal of who really hit Michael. I feel like it was being set up for one more major twist but then it never happened. If you don’t mind a slow start, this was a good read overall. Thank you to NetGalley for my copy!

An unfortunate car accident leaves Christina’s husband in a critical condition at the hospital. Now that she thinks of it, it might’ve been her who did it. She thought she had hit an animal but what if it was her husband Michael?
As she tries to lead the police astray and far from her tail, she discovers that she might not have been the only one keeping secrets…

The plot was really interesting and I liked Christina as a character. She went through a lot thorough the book. We can feel her distress and her dread while she has to cope with all the things happening to her at the same time and on top of that discovering the truth about her husband. I feel like I can’t say more without spoiling but while I expected the twist somehow, I couldn’t believe the identity of the responsible. With a perfect pace, the author manages to grip our attention till the end!
This was my first novel by this author and it made me want to read her work again!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and I was far from disappointed.

This was a mind bending twist that had me on the edge of my seat with each page that was flipped 😱 Did she really do it? I just wanted to know! The more I read, the more I needed to know. As I got closer to the end, my jaw was stuck; dropped to the floor! I can't even 🤯 Lies, deceit, and betrayal 😮

Like many thrillers, I get hooked. But this was an absolute thrill ride 👏🏼 AJ Campbell kept me going, had me losing sleep and begging for more!

Highly recommend you all grab this book on May 29th! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Holy crap! This was a fast paced, exciting and completely gripping thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last page! AJ Campbell is a master of mystery and suspense. The suspense built up until we got to the mind blowing ending! I neglected everything until I finished this one. This book had everything I loved - short chapters, lots of twists and turns, well developed characters, and a plot that was delivered beautifully! There were multiple times that I thought I had it solved. There were multiple times that I thought the story was wrapped up. I was wrong on every occasion! Campbell does a clever job pulling us in at the very beginning and keeping up captivated right up until the end. She masterfully weaves in relevant twists and jaw dropping turns that kept me furiously turning the pages. I highly recommend this one!

Thank you to the AJ Campbell for reaching out with an e-ARC of Did I Kill My Husband? In exchange for an honest review!

Christina is meeting with her twin brother at the bar one evening because she is at her wits end. She is frustrated in her marriage, and she doesn’t know where to turn. On her way home, she hits something, an animal she assumes, with her car. That is, until the police call to inform her that her husband Michael has been hit by a vehicle, right when and where she hit the animal. Now Christina must figure out if she did hit her husband, as he lays in the hospital. As she investigates, she finds secrets about Michael that she couldn’t have planned for.

When I first started reading this book I loved the pace. It was quick and it kept me hooked from the beginning. The next thing that jumped out to me was how well the characters interacted with each other like real friends and family, especially the siblings Christina, Ted and Sophia. And this extended throughout all the interactions between characters! Furthermore, each character had their own conflicts going on which allowed for tension and suspense from a variety of angles, so I was constantly immersed in what was going on.

The main storyline was full of twists and turns and reveals that made me gasp. I thought I had things figured out 2 or 3 times, and when everything was finally resolved it was like a slap in the face. I was totally unprepared but once I heard it, it made complete sense! And everything wraps up nicely, no loose ends!

If you need a new thriller this summer, this is the one to get! It is unputdownable. And I promise you, the last quarter of this book will stick with you!

This is the first book I read by A. J. Campbell, but it won't be my last! I accepted every single one of her red herrings, and I suspected everyone!

Campbell takes everyone's worst nightmare - accidentally hitting something with your car - and amplifies it until the thought of what happened becomes an all-encompassing albatross.

While Christina doesn't want her husband to die from his injuries, she also doesn't want him to recover enough to identify the hit-and-run culprit. And she has her suspicions about why he was out on that stormy night, walking the road instead of driving. So in addition to trying to cover her lies with more lies, she has to follow the breadcrumbs to discover what Michael has really been up to.

This was truly an edge-of-your-seat thriller, and an engaging read!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for introducing me to this author through an advance reader's copy.

Christina was driving home in treacherous conditions when she believed she hit an animal on the road. Having gotten out to check and nothing to see, continued home, only to be told by police in the early hours of the morning, her husband had been involved in a hit-and-run and they didn't not know the driver. Did Christina kill her husband? This plot takes you through the feelings and turmoil Christina experienced following the awful night and piece by piece, she finds information out that makes her unsure she knew who her husband really was.

I was expecting a lot from this book with the reviews and ratings by other readers, however I don't think it quite lived up to the hype in my eyes. The beginning of the book drew me in well with a great plot but I ended up a little bored in the middle with it being slightly stagnant with a lot of the same feelings being relived for multiple pages with no movement forward in the storyline. The last 25% of the book was worth continuing with faster-paced writing, multiple possible ways for the storyline to go and some red herrings thrown in too to try and put you off the scent. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a resolve at the end with the culprit being revealed.

Talk about twisted turns that I never saw coming!! I totally suspected of the wrong person the whole time. I was hooked from the beginning! This book had everything I love in a thriller book. I could not out the book down the last few chapters. Idk but the sister is something else for doing what she did but also she was in part a victim and Michael.

AJ is a great writer and she draws you in immediately. This book kept my interest throughout and what a great topic! I loved the relationship with her twin brother especially and she also developed the other characters well. There were great plot lines and twists you won’t see coming! I certainly guessed it wrong, lol! I would recommend this and all her books. I’m always thrilled when she publishes a new book as I’m certain to love it!

AJ Campbell has done it again with this twisty domestic thriller!

'Did I Kill My Husband?' Is told through the point of view of Christina who accidentally hits something on her drive home. Fast forward a few hours and she receives a house call from the police letting her know her husband, Michael, has been involved in a hit-and-run and is in a coma at hospital. Was Christine the person who hit Michael? Why can't he remember anything from the night in question? Can Christine keep her cool with help from her twin brother Ted?

This is another fast-paced novel from AJ Campbell and once again she doesn't disappoint. So many red herrings and little twists before the penultimate twist at the end of the book makes the reader want to read "just one more chapter" which we all know means the novel will be finished ASAP!

Thank you to Netgalley, AJ Campbell and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC

An excellent, fast-paced book full of lies, chills and confusion. The premise of driving home in foul weather and hitting what you think is an animal, but turns out to be your husband, is brilliant. It sets the scene for a gripping, twisty thriller full of well-developed characters, some sympathetic, others hateful. AJ Campbell is a fabulous writer, and this book is up there with her very best. Thoroughly recommend!
