A shortish story that anyone who loves Butcher and Blackbird would enjoy for sure! Imo.
Dexter is hands down my favorite show so I'm instantly drawn to books that have the same energy. Brownie points for the mentions of it within the book!
Scout and Rumor. I have to admit I spent a solid five minutes laughing about the name choice cause all I could imagine was Bruce Willis and demi Moores drop dead gorg daughters.
Blake, the man after my own heart. How loving and supportive ugh. She can do no wrong in this man's eyes and I'm here for it. I wish I could say I felt bad for Mr ex. Who intervenes in their ex's life like that...what a creep. Justice is served...in the wickedest of ways.
Overall I loved the book. Short and straight to the point. No pesky details and massive world building. It was a nice break for my zombie food which has been on overload for a year straight of reading. I definitely want it on my shelf next to my other dexter ish books.
I personally thought the 🌶️ scenes were perfect. It was a great read. It was quick paced and fast moving book. It really only took a few days to day read but if you have a afternoon with nothing to do I suggest reading this! It’s got spice It’s got serial killers It’s got a huh moment
It leaves you feeling a certain way 😂 😳 It was a fun read. I just had to find out what happened next.
A little bit romance. A little bit horror. A little bit thriller. A horror Writer and a Serial Killer make the perfect combo🤌🏻
It gave me massive MindF*ck vibes, and I'm totally here for it 👏🏻
I loved Scout and Blake. They were so adorable 🥺 I think I more of their relationship and their lil family with Damien (their cat). I enjoyed that ending 😈 definitely well deserves.
Thank you to the author for a chance to ARC read this.
A serial killer and horror author are dating. He discovers her secret and he’s unsurprisingly ok with it. I felt like this book had so much promise but ultimately was not very good. The whole thing felt rushed and a bit forced. The spice was there but really didn’t add anything to the story. There should have been way more exploration of the characters and their backstories. It’s a quick and easy read, it should only take a few hours to get through but I don’t know if I would recommend it to others.
It had a great premise, but it was a little rushed and, at the end, completely unrealistic. I get it, these books are never completely realistic, but this was just too far from reality for me to enjoy.
This is one of the best dark romances I’ve read in awhile. I probably say that about all of them but I just love this genre.
Definitely couldn’t put this book down!
Scout is a tie DIE artist and her work is spectacular. She’s also a vigilante and serial killer. Blake is her author boyfriend who took his father’s murder as inspiration for his genre. Rumor is Scout’s best friend and later in the book you’ll find out more about her. Jude is scout’s detective ex boyfriend.
Blake finally starts realizing Scout is killing people who deserve it and he stands by her. He even wants to start joining her. She can do no wrong in his eyes.
You’ll find out why Jude should’ve just listened to Scout when she said leave her alone.

This was a short and fun read that definitely feeds into the dark romance theme. I enjoyed that this time the MMC wasn't the typical unhinged murderer but the FMC was, it breaks away from the monotony of a good girl FMC with a predator and overly intense MMC.
I do wish that the book started when the MMC and FMC met rather than in the middle of their romance, it would have given more chemistry to their relationship. Instead, it felt like they were only together because of the hot sex and her interest in helping him in his books. I also do wish more details were given when she had helped him flushed out gruesome ideas in his writing.
The ending was a bit rushed and I do wish framing the cop in the end was given more tought and page space.
I was completely hooked on the story! For me, being a fan of DARK romance, this could easily be rated higher. But I personally wanted more depth in Scout's journey and actions! And I definitely appreciated the tie-dye!!
The bond between Scout and Blake was my favorite part. His acceptance and support of her every aspect, and their progression together by the end!
While I wished for more insight into the drama involving Jude, I found his storyline satisfying in the end!
I'm unsure if a sequel is in the works, but the potential is definitely there!
Overall I found this book enjoyable and highly recommend giving it a read!
*As ALWAYS, please check trigger warnings ahead of time*
I went into this book completely blind, aside from reading the trigger warnings. I loved this book; I loved the plot, and I appreciated the spice and the romantic element.
I loved the twists and turns throughout. I wish it were a bit longer, but you can tell MFK-R put A LOT of research into the writing.
Scout is such a GREAT lead. Her relationships with Rumor, Blake, and even Jude leave much to be desired. I loved the story behind why Scout does what she does. In my opinion, everyone can relate to that. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it was so good that I couldn't stop once I started reading.
Not my usual type of book to read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Been in a slump recently but I enjoyed it so much I didn't take long at all to finish.
It is short and sweet but has a bit of romance in there, a bit of death and a bit of gore to go with it.
At one point I was sat there thinking of different ways this book was going to go, and that is exactly what pushed me on quickly to finish, because I just needed to know how it would end and whether any of my guesses would be right!
Would recommend!

I started this book with the intent of reading for an hour and then setting it down. I was up reading this book until I finished it.
The leading female role is a serial killer much like Dexter where she only kills people who hurt others. She's very inventive in how she hurts people. It's a wonderful read. I love the relationship she builds with her boyfriend who's a writer. Their banter had me laughing also the banter with her best friend. It's beautifully written and spicy as sin.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - spicy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - book as a whole 🩸🩸🩸🩸 - murder scenes
First book I’ve read by this author. Stars are 4.5. The story flows nicely, the plot is good. Definitely spicy. The kill scenes fit the story, not too much gore or over done. The backstory I feel needed a little more to give reason of why it all started but the author did good presenting it. I think I’m just used to more with these types of books. But again great story I enjoyed it. It kept me engaged and I wasn’t ready for it to end.
I really enjoyed it! I felt there was a good balance between the story and the romance parts. It was short but kept my attention.
I wish there was a little bit more background information. I also wish there was more interaction between 2 of the characters after the one reveal. I don't want to say who because I don't want to spoil anything!
This was my first book from this author, and I will be reading more! Thank you to the author for the ARC!
This is my first dark Romance and I really enjoyed it. I love the idea of scout being a serial killer that kills only scumbags. I also love that the other main character was a horror author, and we got a peek inside his writing. This was a great story mixed with horrific moments and steam. I did a fist pump and cheered at the ending. Excellent work and I definitely need to read more books like this.
Book review for Scout by MK Richberger. I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. 5⭐️ EASILY A dark romance between a horror author and serial killer with good portions of 🌶, gore, tie-dye, and vigilante justice. This book grabbed me from the very first line! I ABSO-FREAKING-LOVE the plot, writing style and the relationship between Scout & Blake🖤 I hope we get to hear more from them!😉Thoroughly enjoyed this read! Releases July 15th!
It took me three days to read this and it isn’t even 200 pages long 🙃 the characters are one dimensional, they don’t have chemistry, and even the spice felt rushed. There was no build up and it felt like listening to someone describe a scene they were watching rather than a scene they were actively participating in. I would say maybe I’m not the intended audience but Mindf*ck and B&B are two of my faves so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

🎶He was a boy, she was a girl. He wrote splatterpunk books about real life cases. She was a serial unaliver. 🎶 This book was good. I enjoyed the multiple POV. Dexter is one of my favorite TV shows and this had so many good elements but was it's own thing. There was quite a bit of spice and lots of stabby. Would def recommend if you like "Good for her", vigilante, horror romance
Overall I enjoyed the book. It is a quick read and had equal parts spice and gore.
Blake was an awesome character and we love a supportive man! But I did feel a little underwhelmed. I wished there was more of a back story or character development. I think because the story was so short it left me with questions and wanting a little bit more.
A horror author and a serial killer dating 😍 this book was intriguingly good and gave me Mindfuk and Dexter vibes! The bada$$ female vigilante character Scout made the book! The story was great and this was fast paced and so easy to read. It wasn’t overly graphic but there were plenty of TW’s so please be aware! I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much.
Absolutely loved the concept of this book! Seriousl killer dating a horror book author? Genius!
Since it was quite short, the only thing I would say is that there wasn't a whole lot to the storyline. I would have much prefered it to be lengthier and maybe have a bit more plotlines here and there. It was very predictable but unlike most predictable books I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
This book presents a refreshingly original concept, immediately captivating the reader. From the outset, it was evident that this would be a five-star read. The dynamic between Black and Scout is undeniably compelling, leaving a lasting impression. The unexpected twist at the conclusion was truly exceptional. I look forward to future reads from MFK R and will be reading more of her back log!
Well that was just a fun ride and a great read! Who doesn’t love a kind of psycho but totally justified serial killer who has all the right reasons to kill stupid people of the world? This gave me some awesome Dexter meets Mindf**k series meets horror author extraordinaire and I am here for it!
Scout written by MFKR has a killer vibe that reminds me of The Mindfck Series by S.T. Abby. Which I’m beyond excited to have found a book I feel is just as good. I’m really hoping that there will be more from Scout and her justice. It’s bloody, steamy and a little salty.
What can I say about this book? It was absolutely amazing. It gripped me instantly from the very beginning. A serial killer fmc and a mmc author who writes splatterpunk horror?! A match made in heaven if I do say so myself. They fit together perfectly. I absolutely loved Scout and Blake together!
This was a great short book. I loved the multiple pov. The spice is there. If the Book was longer I would expect more spice but it was a perfect for this book. The banter is wonderful. This is just such a great read with a twist.
“You’re gonna kill me." “Nope, I think I’ll keep you.”
This book was such a fun read! It was thrilling AND sexy...and at times, I'd even consider it a love story. I love a good revenge story and a vigilante serial killin' woman makes this even better!
I really Loved Scout! I couldn't put this book down! If you like dark romance this book is for you. This book has a bit of everything you could want in a short story. This is the first book I've read from this author and I can't wait to read more!
You don't really get to know the characters very much in this story, it all feeling a bit rushed. Throw in some tenuous alibi, a mountain of evidence and some useless detectives and you have a reasonably okay, dark but entertaining story.
I read the entire book in just a few hours. I was so engrossed in the story it flew by! Perfect blend of plot and spice. Serial killer + romance + author = perfection.
