The end of my marriage was the beginning of my happily ever after.
What happens when you hear your husband putting dents in your mattress with another woman?
Leave and never look back!
Easier said than done when you're a stay-at-home mom, share two kids with the no-good cheater, and have a savings account that laughs in your face on the daily.
I want out and agree to an outrageous separation agreement to avoid a showdown in court with a man standing on his wallet, waiting for me to fall. The mission is next to impossible, but I would rather attempt a full split on a hibachi grill after a Brazilian wax than stay in a marriage I should've ended years ago.
Morgan, my best friend, offers a gorgeous townhouse her family owns to get me back on my feet. Eight months rent-free equals one step closer to Divorced AF.
I didn't expect moms gone wild at my divorce party, but one fruity cocktail led to me staying out past my bedtime and the steamiest dream with a man straight from fantasies.
Every kiss, every caress, made me feel worshipped. Adored.
When Morgan offered this Georgetown home, she failed to mention it belongs to her younger brother, one of DC's most eligible bachelors. He's very fine, not a dream, and back early from time away in London.
Now, we're staring at each other, dumbfounded and turned on.
Ella Gets the D is a standalone divorce romantic comedy perfect for lovers of cinnamon roll heroes, a tired mom getting her groove back, tacos, and lots of spice (we kick the door wide open). This isn't your fluffy rom-com. Somebody might catch a case.
Tanvier Peart is a future bestselling romance author with a healthy obsession with snacks and happily ever afters. She is a good girl with kinks who spends her days working on public policy and enjoys the wild life of being a wife and PTA mom. By night, she writes and reads romance books with steamy scenes.
This is Tanvier's second book, and wow, you'd think she's been writing forever! Her stories flow so well, and her writing is just beautiful.
Julian is the ultimate dreamboat! Respectful, educated, and emotionally in tune—he’s the whole package. And my girl Ella is a powerhouse! Her journey with Julian sizzles with chemistry, and her friendship with Morgan is goals—girl power at its finest!
The support network in this story is superb—friends, family, everyone's there for each other. And that unexpected twist near the end? Mind-blowing!
My only thing I wanted is that I wished for more scenes with Grandma Katharine.
In short, this book is a breezy, funny read with heart and sass and just the right amount of spice. Totally recommend it for a pick-me-up!
3.75⭐️ Ok, I’m finally finished! I’ve been in a serious slump and reading the last two books have been rough!! I think I’m over the slump and it may be because of this book!
This was a breath of fresh air. Ella got all the D’s😂😂 and good for her👏🏽 Julian, Julian, Julian is all I have to say… wow, 🎶what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man!🎶 If you’re looking for something light hearted, with a little bit of drama, a few laugh out loud funny moments, found family and some serious character development of the FMC, this one will not disappoint. Only gripe is that I wish there was more dialogue and less inner monologue of both the FMC and MMC’s. This is a standalone, but per the author’s note there are more books to come taking place in this universe and I can’t wait for Julian’s BFF Antonio’s story.

ella has been a perfect wife for years; she has dedicated her life to her kids, keeping the house ready and being the perfect trophy wife to a person that didn't deserve an ounce of her energy.
everything changes when she comes earlier home one day and finds her husband is having an affair. this is not the first time he has done it but she has forgiven the past times for being unsure on whether she had caught him on the act or if her mind was just playing tricks on her. turns out it wasn't and it was very much happening before her own eyes.
with no more excuses left to protect him, ella turns around and leaves the life she has worked on so long to make no mistakes. with no money, no house, and nowhere to take her children.
her best friend morgan plays an important step on the next part of her life, one that she didn't and couldn't see herself taking if she had not left her husband. she files for divorce and is forced to start from scratch; that means, finding a new job, a place where she can stay and above all, a way to get her sanity back.
this book will take you through the life of a late restarter, a person who is looking for a start where there shouldn't have been one. but life is full of surprises. it forces you to stand on your feet when you least expect it. it throws an unknown issue that you never thought would be possible and forces you to learn, grow and progress; that is exactly what ella did.
with her past life, she would have never known what happiness truly felt like, what having a family truly meant, but she sacrificed the commodity of staying silent, for a place that she could be herself, express herself and do things for herself.
it is a beautiful story that reminds me, that even though life can be tough, you are tougher and you will get through whatever happens and is thrown your way.
This was my first of Tanvier’s books and I’m definitely going to be trying more because I ate this up in one sitting!! Ella really goes through it, but seeing her rediscover herself was incredibly empowering to read. And Julian?! Let’s just say, he had to get really creative before her divorce was final lmao.
This was a such a great ride!!! I liked Ella immediately and watching her find herself and her happiness was a JOY. Julian……what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man. He was gone from the beginning and the way he just becomes part of their lives was a joy to watch. Now, I will say based on some of the promo I had seen I was expecting the spicy scenes to blow my socks off and they were good, I wish the author would have fleshed them out a little more. Like things would get started and then it was the next day and we were reminiscing…..it just missed the mark for me. Overall, Tangier has a FAN in me. I will absolutely be back for more!
This book had me laughing out loud while also swooning. Ella tried to play it safe, but once she decided she deserved more, her whole journey took off. Charles… PMO. Pretentious, narcissistic, and somehow his daddy was even worse 🙄. Shoutout to Katharine though—total unsung hero!
Julian? Whew. Age ain’t nothing but a number, and that piercing reveal—🔥. What I loved most was Ella’s self-discovery. She healed, rediscovered herself beyond wife and mother (those Friday date nights 😍), and fell in love with herself first, then Julian. Add in two incredible kids, a strong sisterhood, and the perfect balance of humor, heart, and spice (and trust me, it got spicy 🥵), plus layered themes of motherhood, class, and social standing—this story delivered.

My thoughts: 🔖Page 28 of 419 Chapter 3 Julian - I was told this was good but, wow, if my husband wasn't off today I'd be all over this. 🔖142 Chapter 19 Ella - I'm going to be up tonight with this one. I've barely gotten any reading time in today. 🔖237 Chapter 29 Julian - This has turned into some kind of hybrid slow burn with explicit scenes. I still plan on staying up past midnight to finish even though I have to get up early to cook tomorrow. How did Ella manage to be a homemaker for 14 years and not learn how to cook? 🔖260 Chapter 32 Julian - That's all she wrote, my husband woke up to remind me I had an early morning and this story isn't going to speed up anytime soon, so I'll finish when the sun is up.
I don't have to tell you that the D has a double meaning. I heard great things about this story and the fact that I have an aunt who is practically a prude named Ella made it even funnier to me. Overall I really enjoyed this story I struggled with the infidelity and the assumption that adultery during a separation is limited to penetration, It is not and it's kind of ridiculous because if someone sees someone going to your home overnight and sees you canoe on the porch you can't say oh we did oral but there was no fingering they aren't gonna care like they don't need you on video to prove adultery it's always been tied to speculation and assumptions when it comes to evidence. If they are there overnight they can assume sex was had whether it was limited to non-penetrative sex or not. So that whole part of the story got on my nerves and almost cost it half a star but in the end it was just really good and I'm glad the author acknowledged that she took some liberties for the sake of humor in the storyline, even though I felt it was unnecessary. I will definitely be reading more from this author. On a side note,, there are 2 playlists at the beginning of this book and the songs I annotated along the way are not on them you might want to check them out.

Six bedrooms. Six bathrooms. A corner lot executive home, perfect for an executive and his family. For three years, I scrubbed every floor, washed every sheet, and prepared every meal in appreciation of a house that was mine in every sense except in name. It became routine, like the birthday parties, swim lessons, and PTA fundraisers that eat through the weekend before you turn around and restart the clock on Monday.
The likelihood that a robber—with expensive taste in shoes—waited for the perfect opportunity this Saturday morning to break in and pleasure themselves for the hell of it is slim to none.
Then the one place no one in Falls Church would find me popped into my mind. Somewhere I could process my life with free childcare. IKEA.
Charles would take all the furniture and cut off the water before he left the house willingly, and going back isn’t an option. Neither is his parents’ house, or my mother’s in Ohio. I wouldn’t put it past Charles Sr. to conveniently lock me out and keep my children when he finds out I’m leaving his son. Charles inherited many things from his father, and spitefulness is right up there with generational wealth and a prenup that leaves me with the same thing I came in with: nothing.
Bribes might take you far in life, especially as a parent, but my kids deserve to know why we’re trading our house for my best friend’s guest rooms. “Change of plans,” I say to Jackson and Haile’s faces full of kids meals in the rearview mirror. “We—I—” Shit. “Your father and I love you.” Haile’s frown deepens. “Is it terminus?” “Huh?” “Terminus.” She emphasizes the word like I didn’t catch it the first time. “The health.” Oh, terminal. We spend our mornings in the library for classes and reading, which explains her vocabulary, but not why she thinks someone is dying. “No, baby.” I shake my head. “Nothing terminal. Our living situation is going to change. Mommy is getting us a new place soon, and your father will take care of our old house.” “What’s wrong with the house?” “Nothing, Jackson.” “Could be ghosts.” “Haile.” I sigh. “There are no ghosts.” Jackson’s brows draw down with a stare that mirrors his father’s—only with confusion and not disappointment. “Did something happen?” My grip on the steering wheel tightens. How do I tell a six- and four-year-old their family is splitting up, not because of ghosts or any fault of their own? Note to self: add therapy to my list of needs with money I don’t have.
Chloe stirs, shifting thick dark hair across her crinkling forehead. Her brow sinks until Tilly cradles her to her chest and presses a kiss to her cheek. The two come over on occasion when I need a release from twelve-hour days of contract negotiations. They know what it is. They enjoy hanging out and expect nothing but good dick and a comfortable thread count. I finish off my scotch and stuff my phone into my pants pocket, next to the wad of wrinkled toilet paper that houses our used condoms. I don’t make a habit of leaving them behind or sleeping down here. The first is too risky, and the second isn’t my style. Discarded clothes and shoes form a trail to the front door. I got dressed an hour ago but grab my blazer and loafers. With one last sweep of the room and a pat to my pocket to check for my key card, I leave Tilly and Chloe sound asleep in the four-poster bed and step into an empty hall encrusted in every eighteenth-century decorative accent.
The seven stages of a man about to lose his shit flash through his features. The blank stare directed at no one in particular morphs into squished eyebrows and a look that says, I can’t believe this bitch doesn’t want my money. That last part is wrong. I do want some of his money. As much as I want to dance into the street singing “You Don’t Own Me” like an honorary member of The First Wives Club, it’s real out here. Rent is expensive, bills laugh in your face, and the concept of savings will remain a friend with no benefits until I get a job and push the reset button on my life.
This was my first read by this author and I’m so glad I was able to read an early copy. This book gave all the feelings and I loved it!
I’m usually not a person that picks up a book that its main focus is a divorce because it can be a little bit triggering (child from divorce and it wasn’t pretty). BUT, the premise of this one was very interesting to me and I have to say that Ella deserved that divorce way before everything and I’m glad she got it.
When it came to a support system, Ella had a great one. Her friends were always there for her, her kids were the most loving I’ve seen and even her mother in law was there to help her and care for her. But she also had Julian, and I have to say Julie definitely won the tittle as a perfect book boyfriend. Julian was so attentive, patient and loving to Ella. He had no problem waiting for her and making sure Ella felt comfortable and safe. Even though there was a slight age gap, throughout the whole book I kept forgetting he was younger than her, thats how mature he acted.
And all the twists this book had. It made me even more eager to continue. Honestly the only reason this is a 4.5 stars for me is because I found it hard to keep up with the time jumps, but thats my ADHD. 🤣 Other than that, this was an excellent read and I recommend it for everyone. 🩷
Thank you Tanvier for the early copy, you’re awesome. 🩷
This is the second book by Tanvier and I’m still shocked that she’s only just recently published books. You’d think she’d been writing for years with the way her stories come together and how beautifully she writes!!!!
Julian is MY MAN MY MAN MY MAN oh my god. The definition of a man, truly. Not only does he respect the women in his life, but he respects the kids, too!!!! 😩 I love how educated he is, but also how in touch he is with his emotions and the fact that he doesn’t hide anything from Ella at any point in their timeline.
Ella, sweet, sweet, Ella. Her courage and strength and tenacity is incredible. As someone who’s had very terrible relationships in the past and as a mom who doesn’t always put herself first, it’s nice to see (even if it is just a book) that moms can take time for themselves while still being great parents!!! 🙂↕️
This book had everything I wanted and my only issue was that we didn’t get more time with Katharine!!!! We love a caring grandma 🥹
Thank you SO much to Good Girls PR and Tanvier for this ARC 🫶🏻
After reading The Seven Month Itch, I just knew Tanvier wasn't going to disappoint with this one. I love that even though Ella had her whole life turned upside-down, she was able to boss up and get her confidence back during the time she spent with Julian.
Speaking of Julian, he was one of the most adorable MMC I've read in a while. From the first time he met Ella, he seemed to genuinely care for her and consistently showed that he would be there for her and the kids. 🥺
Tropes found in this book
💜 single mom 💜 best friend's younger brother 💜 age gap 💜 forced proximity 💜 he falls first
As a 44 year old single mom about to be 45, this book hit home in so many aspects! Leaving relationships that no longer serve you in your 40’s is not a life sentence to being alone! Healing will come, your power and confidence in yourself does come back! And most importantly, Love can find you in the least expected place! I simply adored this story! Wonderfully written!
This is my first time reading Tanvier Pearts books and I absolutely love her writing! This story is fun and entertaining and if you love a quick pace this book has it.
We follow Ella who catches her husband cheating, and moves out with her children. She realizes she needs a job and home but most importantly she is starting over again. Her friend Morgan lets her stay in a two home owned by her family while she gets back to her feet. Ella meets Julian Morgan’s brother and they quickly develop a connection. Julian doesn’t care that Ella is older he just wants her and feels complete with her.
This is such a great story about how it’s ok to start over again and find love again. I really enjoyed this book and loved how supportive Julian is of Ella and her kids. Julian is definitely book boyfriend material.
This was my first Tanvier book, and I’m definitely hooked! Ella goes through so much, but watching her rediscover herself was incredibly empowering. I loved seeing her journey and rooting for her along the way. And Julian? Oh my gosh, he had to get really creative before her divorce was final, and it made for some seriously entertaining moments. I can't wait to dive into more of Tanvier's books.
This book was so good! It made me laugh out loud, it made me sniffle a little and it made me want to beat someone’s ass! Also when I first read the title my mind went straight to the gutter because I thought D stood for Dick. Of course it stands for Divorce. Thought I’d help you out so you weren’t standing in gutter water too! 😂😂😂.
The book starts with a bang. Ella walks into her home and hears sounds of her husband sexing another woman. Though in this instance D does stand for dick. She walks and files for divorce.
In the scheme of things that was they easy part. Because Ella has been a stay at home Mom of 2 children for almost 11 years. So when she’s tasked to find a job and a place to live within 3 months, that’s when the story takes off.
Luckily for Ella she has an amazing set of friends who help her. So armed with their assistance, an abundance of determination and the desire to end her marriage, she starts to change her life. She finds love with Julian, her best friends brother. She finds her way back to her first love - education.
And she survives her ex-husbands attempts to make her come back. As with everything in life, the challenges can either make you or break you.
Julian and Ella build a life together and get their HEA. Read this upon the recommendation of a friend and borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited.
3.75 stars rounded up. This book isn’t as spicy as the title suggests. I enjoyed reading about Ella regaining her independence from her husband, especially since he was the breadwinner in the marriage. Ella and Julians relationship was very sweet and I loved how much he cared about her kids. This story takes place over the course of a year, but I would have liked the time jumps to be more clear. Also, there were a ton of side characters and it was a little confusing to keep track of everyone. I recommend reading if you’re looking for a nice rom com with a happy ending!
5/5 ⭐️ | one thing Tanvier is going to do is write a worthwhile rom-com with the right amount of spice. Julian meant what he said, “However long it takes. You’re worth the wait.” And I loved that for Ella!
Cheers to this new to me author that wrote characters that were real with an easy flair. They weren't young, but had been through life a bit. It wasn't all pretty, but it was real, funny, sexy and made me believe that there is love and life after divorce. I really enjoyed the story of Ella getting her groove back after dealing with an ugly divorce from a man that deserved so much worse.
Right from the start, we meet Ella who literally walks in on her husband cheating on her. She's had enough and knows this can't be the first time. She breaks, but is supported by so many people that have her back. Good friends, helpful strangers and a hardcore attorney that will take down even the most successful man in the DMV area. Even broken, with no job and 2 young kids, I was all for Ella. I knew that this woman not only had a heart of gold, but she had strength in her bones and heart. I loved that she had people that supported her and in unlikely places. Divorce is hard, but having support means the world to people going through it.
Then there's Julian. Holy swoon! The younger brother of Ella's bff, Morgan. He wasn't supposed to be back in the states, but the meet cute they have? That's one for the books! Their chemistry is instantaneous and couldn't have come at a worse time. But these two create their own friendship that blurs so many lines. But I couldn't have loved it more. It was a sexy friendship that was built on trust, care and patience. And his love for her children? That made everything that they were going through that much more appealing.
Ella Gets the D is a well written story of one woman getting her groove back and finding her worth. Not only in a man, but finding her footing in life, with her children and with a job. Julian was the cherry on the cake and made it all that much better. He's attentive and everything that she was missing in her life previously. Not only is this a romcom, but it's emotional, real and filled with so many great characters all around. Ella and Julian were a great team, but even the supporting characters made the book that much better.
If you enjoy: Age gap (Ella is slightly older than Julian) Single parent Found Family Best friend's younger brother Unexpected Roommates He Falls First with great chemistry and amazing supporting characters that will make you laugh and fan yourself, this will be a book that you will enjoy. It's a dang journey to get to the HEA, but it is worth it! Tanvier Peart may be a newer author, but she writes with much more experience and heart. The way she wrote these characters and the pacing from beginning to end was just perfect. I was on Ella's journey with her and man, did I love Julian for her. He's what book boyfriends are made of. I can't wait to read more from this author!
Thank you to @good.girls.pr for a #gifted copy of this amazing book!
This was my first time reading @tanvierwrites work and baby it won’t be my last time. Ella Gets the D WAS AMAZINGGGG! It’s been a minute since I’ve had a 5 star read.
So let’s get into what this book is about. Our main character Ella comes home to hear her crusty husband giving the business to another woman…get this…IN THEIR BED!!!
CUT THE DAMN CAMERAS!!! You read that right. Ella in that moment understood that her marriage was over. But what would walking away from her trifling, no good husband look like? A stay-at home mom, out of the workforce, with little to nothing in her name. But guess what that doesn’t stop our girl Ella. She is surrounded by bad ass friends and a support system that won’t let her stumble.
Her best friend Morgan offers her and her kids to stay at this townhome in Georgetown until the end of the year. What Morgan failed to tell Ella, was that her fine ass brother is the owner of the townhome. But with him in London handling their family business, what would the chances be that he would even be there?
Friends I’m going to stop there because I don’t want to spoil it for you. But Julian Brooke is tall, dark, and handsome. There is instant attraction, age-gap, moments that will make you laugh, moments that will tug at your heart, and moments that will make you fan yourself because the heat was HOT! Did I mention tacos? Ella’s love of food spoke to me and if you know me…you know.
Don’t ask me what my lesbian ass is going to do with a man, but Julian Brooke is my book boyfriend. Anyway, what are you waiting for? Go read the damn book!
First thing first i never laughed so much with a book and the fmc Ella was such a badass and I love her for it 💜 Not only she left her cheating husband but ended up having to start over and what’s better then to live with your best friend younger brother👀 I love Julian so much too he is such a sweetheart to Ella and her kids 🥹 and not only that I love how he cares for them omg I loved this book so much from the beginning to the end to the banter and tension between Ella and Julian🤭 it was a slow burn but the tension leading up to it was worth it omg 🤭 I highly recommend this book 💜
Tropes: 💜: reverse age gap(she is older) 💜:best friend younger brother 💜: single mom 💜:he falls first 💜:he reads books to her kids 🥹
Ella didn’t just get the D she got drama, delusion, and a devastatingly fine man. Period. One messy marriage, one petty separation agreement, and one wild divorce party later… sis ends up in a townhouse that just so happens to belong to her bestie’s younger brother. And he’s back early. And FINE. And shirtless. Frequently. It’s giving: “Oops, you live here?” “Oops, I dreamed about you last night.”“Oops, we’re doing that now.”
Ella is healing. Julian was not letting up and stepped into Step Daddy season fast. He’s forbidden and fine. The tension? Thick. The scenes? Spicy. The drama? Oscars-worthy.
Read it if you’re craving chaos with a side of D. 🥵📖
This was a cute & spicy story about a woman who get’s her grove back after a messy breakup. Even though Ella had her whole world turned upside down she came out stronger. I loved how you really saw their relationship grow and how much patience Julian had with everything. The build up felt real and not forced. Normally i’m not a big fan of slow burn romcoms but in this one it felt realistic & logic. Julian is really the MVP🥹😍. There were moments i found myself laughing out loud about the banter between the characters but also felt sad about the things both characters go through. This book also had just the amount of spice it needed🌶️🌶️🌶️. This was the first book I’ve read by Tanvier and i can say that i’m hooked. Can’t wait for the next one 🤩🤩.
Thank you for the ARC of this book Tanvier & Good Girls PR 😍.
Easy 4 star read. I enjoyed seeing Ella find peace and love while going through her divorce. There was a small plot twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. It gave the book a little more depth than anticipated and usually received from a traditional romance novel.
I will say Julian Brooke is working his way to Maverick Bell status when it comes to best romance partners. He's up there with the best ones written.
I received my ARC for this book and was beyond excited. It’s my first book from the author, but will definitely not be my last. I love the slight age gap, the love after divorce and the spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. The book had me all hot and bothered in the best way 😉
I really liked the story line of this one! A few places hit very close to home, and I enjoyed it! I did have some areas where I got confused in the storyline or translations. Anyone from a separated household could connect with this!
