An excellent primer on songwriting, with practical tips and insight into every facet and stage of writing a song. The section on music theory was rudimentary, but I think would have been very good for a songwriter who had ideas but didn't know what to do with them. Her notes on overcoming writer's block, survey and analysis of song structures, and ideas on generating songs were great and inspiring. I'm ready to start penning new songs again.

The first half of the book is about introducing tools for song writing and motivating the reader to try and get out there. The motivational part reached me, and so I rate it to be successful. The second half of the book is a list of tips for those who want to make money with song writing.
