This author is fairly new, and I’ve read all of her recent books and can definitely see how she’s getting even better. This is the second book in this series, and I feel so much for Angel and Ryan. They can’t seem to catch a break, and they have to deal with people from the past and future guiding their lives. I don’t know why, but I’m still not loving Ryan; I like him, but he kinda bugs me from time to time. No matter, the book is well-written, engaging, and interesting. Fans of the first will definitely love this latest. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This book picks up seamlessly after the last one, high in emotions, an Angel just as devastated as I am. The previous book was emotional but this one gutted me! I was reading through a veil of tears a lot of the time. But, before you say anything, these emotions compelled me, these emotions propelled me, these emotions did not allow me to put this book down, flipping hell, I HAD to know where this incredibly talented author was taking me! I was unprepared for this brilliantly penned read, I was hooked from the first sentence. This book covers a lot, not only the immense pain Angel is going through, it covers visions, it covers choices, it covers vengeance, it covers a battle for supremacy, and a love that transcends the ages and stars, literally!

How is it possible to capture the ingenuity of this author? How does one elucidate with mere words this interpretation of a well known myth? It's nigh impossible not to be agog at this author's writing skill, it's impossible not to be gobsmacked at her incredible imagination, it's impossible not to be fully emersed from word one. Hells bells, it's impossible not to accept these characters as long lost friends, they feel so familiar, they feel right. But talking about feels, geez, this book has feels reincarnate! Yeah yeah yeah, I know, both the "lost friends" and "reincarnate" are puns but heavens is this read superb! The story slowly unfurling like a flower opening it's petals, reaching for the heavens, ok... I did it again...but shoot, a Liz Cain read brings out the poet in me with the vividry, the magnificence of the prose. Take everything you know about this particular myth, because THIS version is a version that pierced my heart, THIS version is one I highly recommend you read, you'll never see Artemis and Orion in the same light again, I certainly don't want to....

Angel's story is tightly woven with Morgan's, a lot of parallels. Both have been alone for eons, both had warded their hearts from pain and feelings, but both had found something neither expected, they'd found a family, a family who accepts them, loves them and unconditionally supports them. As Ryan said to Angel, "you've sacrificed a lot for the man you loved" and boy did she! The unprecedented manner Liz presents this incredible read, brings together so much more than "the norm" It brings about a tale so heartfelt, I can taste it on my tongue, a story of immense despair and heartbreak, with a kernel of hope that grows. The action is spectacular, gee whiz, when Angel is cornered by Felicity I nearly blew a gasket from the adrenaline pumping like crazy. She's an amazing character, I was revelling in her newfound power almost as much as she was, Ms Cain deserves a medal at how exceptionally she described it, strikingly! As she does her characters, giving them comprehensive, multi faceted oomph, so yeah, I did love them all! Especially Baron, a side character that was impregnated into a vital character, so cool. This is as much a book about Angel as it is about Ryan, who's actions turned the tide. A man who's more than a mere vampire now, a man who's thirst for his memory, to remember, is all consuming. But no one, least of all Ryan, could have envisaged where this would end up, what he would learn is earthshattering!

My heart goes out of Angel, I truly feel her right to my bone marrow, milenia of same old angst take a new turn. I love how this author keeps me guessing, the twists, well heck, sublime! She's growing constantly, she's evolving, she's learning , she's just awesome! The visions into the past were a stunning recollection of what was, "educating" both me and Ryan of what once was. But where Liz took this next, took my breathe away, the last third of the book didn't let up for a minute, I was holding on for dear life as I was clinging onto this fast paced, brilliantly plotted and executed story! And the epilogue? Well f**k a duck, THAT was explosive in every sense of the word! Book 3 can't come fast enough! Thank the stars there's only one month to wait, which I shall, reluctantly, on edge with anticipation! This series is truly and utterly phenomenal!

Angel’s world has been torn apart as her Ryan has been turned into a vampire. Angel retreats to the company of her friends to try and find some comfort, not knowing what to do. The curse has been broken.
Lucifer is free. Apollo is free. Orion is gone, and Ryan is a vampire.
Whilst all of this seems terribly bad, one good thing, is that Angel has been returned to her former glory, she is now at her full power, and she revels in her ability to fly, as well as having her angelic abilities back again.
Angel is not the only one having problems, when she finds Morgan despairing, having not reciprocated properly to Nial, and now Nial has left to ‘give her space’. Whilst consoling Morgan, the group is surprised when a very confused Ryan turns up at Macey’s house. After he ascended, Baron took him, to make sure that Adam and the others couldn’t corrupt him when he was first turning as a vampire and was vulnerable. But now, Baron is missing, and Ryan has no memories of his past, including any of Angel, but needs their help to find his missing brother.
As Angel and Ryan go in search of Baron, they suddenly find that they are caught up in visions of the past, one showing how Artemis and Orion originally met.
Things begin to unfold, and it becomes clear that the old gods, long forgotten by most, have started to waken, some already on Earth to cause chaos, others gathering their forces in preparation to wipe the face of the Earth.
Angel realises that if she is going to have any hope of saving humanity, and the people she now considers friends, she is going to have to work with those that she has come to consider her enemies, and that now includes the former love of her life, as he is now a vampire.
As book 2 unfolds, we start to see different characters coming into play (no spoilers), that are going to have a significant impact in book 3. Angel starts this book utterly shattered by the events that led to the end of book 1, and we get to watch as she slowly comes to the realisation that whilst ‘her Ryan’ might have died in this lifetime, it doesn’t mean that he is gone completely. As this Ryan moves through the different visions with her, seeing their past unfold, he begins to form an attachment to Angel, especially given their close proximity at all times. Their connection and bond is timeless, and even as a vampire, he cannot resist his attraction to her. The character work is beautifully done as we watch their relationship unfold, we can feel the electricity of their bond, and their absolute love for each other.
Morgan continues to play a large part in the series also, as the ‘Queen of Hell’ and Guardian, the siren with demonic abilities who can stand up to ‘godly’ beings as she is so powerful. There are aspects of this book that are quite sad, as we see Angel’s life being torn apart by her loss for Ryan, but this is offset by Morgan’s antics, who is a constant series of humorous comments. She really brings this series to life with her humour and ‘no-tolerance’ attitude to anyone giving her or her friends a hard time. The other great character is Macey, the beautiful, kind and ever-friendly Nymph, who could be-friend an angry grizzly bear with her smile.
This is a really wonderful story, with aspects of Greek Mythology, following Artemis and Orion, Apollo and Sirius, their stories and those of the gods and mortals that either tried to impede their love, or bring them together. The world building, a combination of Urban Fantasy, and Greek Mythology, makes for an epic back drop to the character stories being told.
It is a story of true love, and true heartbreak, as Gods, Angels and Supernaturals collide, and Angel and Ryan are at the centre of it.
If you love great character stories, Urban Fantasy, or Greek Mythology – then you have to read this!!

This book was just amazing! I loved it and would highly recommend it, especially if you have been following Angel's story in both this series and the Dealer's Choice series too.

This one starts just as the previous one finished and from the get go, it was an emotional rollercoaster ride. Angel being so distraught, so heartbroken, so devastated at what had happened to Ryan just tugged greatly at my own heart strings. I so wanted to reach out and give her a huge hug (not that she would have accepted it anyway!). The writing just totally sucked me in, made me feel all the emotions - this is what great writing should do!

With Ryan having now broken the curse, Angel feels that there is no hope for her lost love, no way to get Orion back and Ryan inevitably chose to save his sister over what their love could have possibly been. Angel finds his choice so hard to deal with, but when he comes to find her, things start to change.

Angel's visions that once sent her to the future are now sending both her and Ryan back to their past lives, to when they first met and fell in love, in order to help Ryan understand more about their relationship and what that might mean for their future. But there's more to these visions than we fully know...

I loved these past visions and seeing their relationship develop in the early stages, but for Angel to experience everything once again, knowing what the ending would be, set my heart rolling once more! She is such a great character - full of strength, loyalty and determination, but also full of loss, pain and heartache. In this series, she is definitely not as cold as she first appeared to be and I have high hopes that everything will work out for her in the end. Is has to , right?

Lots of new side characters are getting involved and revealing little bits of the story here and there, and I can't wait to see all the pieces fit together.

After the epilogue, I was dumbstruck. I cannot wait for the next one now - I so need to see what happens with Ryan/Orion and how Angel and her friends come into play in this scheme of everything that is happening at once! This is definitely an author and a series to be read over and over again!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, but this review is my own honest one. Thank you Liz for another awesome read!

Angel had previously been a very enigmatic character, who seemed distant and closed off, when reading the Dealer’s Choice series, but it was always obvious that she had a story that needed to be told. We learned about Angel’s past and how she had been cursed in Star-Crossed Enemies. At the end of that book she had been doomed to lose Orion again, in his latest life, but this time, as Ryan, he had taken the immortal life of a vampire…

At the start of this book we return to the moment that Ryan began his ascension to become a vampire and Angel realises that she has lost him again, but this time without him regaining his memories of his past life with her.

The author paints a picture of Angel's heartbreak and devastation that cannot help but pull on your emotions too. You will want her to see her love returned to her, every bit as much as she wants it herself.

Ryan is not like any other vampire and when he and Angel meet up again, they both need to revisit the past, for Ryan to understand what it is that Angel has lost over many of his lifetimes. They are both in search of answers, although they don’t necessarily share all of the same motivations.

The vampires are very much at the centre of this book and we get to learn far more about them. Baron proves to be much more than just a side note and I hope that we will see more of him in the next book. Morgan’s story is also still very much in the making. She has an important role still to play and we’re not yet sure exactly what that is. I loved that the story includes more from the shifters in such an unexpected way.

Their book is packed with emotion, as it takes us on a path that explains a lot about the past, while also starting to shape the future. The ending was completely unexpected and leaves you begging for more. I can’t wait to find out what the future holds for Angel and Ryan, but also to find out exactly what Lucifer’s plan is, what the outcome of the supernatural battle that Angel had visions of will be, and what the consequences of it will mean for Morgan. I’m absolutely certain that book 3 in this series will be earth shattering!

With Ryan having "ascended" Angel is left in limbo, not knowing what has happened to him. After waiting weeks, he shows up on their doorstep, still not having any memories of his past life or Angel. His friend Baron is missing though and now they must find him while keeping Ryan away from Adam and the vampires. She must also show him their past and hope that he will not hate her afterwords. There is so much going on in this book, it's one of those that is hard to recap without giving too much away!
Angel has been aloof and distant in the previous series. If you knew her, you knew that. This Angel is becoming someone different, someone she used to be before Apollo changed her world for millenia. She is even daring to hope. Ryan/Orion is an enigma. Different than the other vampires, no one knows why. His demon communicates and he is stronger than he should be. He seems to card for Angel and even if he can't remember her, it seems as if he does innately know there is something there. Morgan is still featured in this book, and you definitely know that she will play a role in the outcome of this situation. And she is, of course, her chaos loving self. You can't help but love Morgan! We also get to learn more about Lucifer and the vampires. How they are connected and why it is that the vampires want to help Lucifer and the demons.
This book has so much going on behind the scenes that I can't believe some of the characters heads don't spin! With Angel only getting visions of the past, she must rely on Morgan who knows what will happen for once. There are also other characters with knowledge of the future and it will surprise you who has that knowledge. Not all is revealed and to us as the audience, but pieces of the puzzle are coming together and we finally got to see what really happened with Artemis and Orion. I know I only have to wait a little while for the next book, but I am already excited to find out if a war will start and how Angel and Morgan can save all the supernaturals if it does.

**ARC Reader, All opinions are my own**

Angel, as she’s been called for millenia, has been on this earth of ours for thousands of years. She and her kind predate humanity and initially were the beings tasked with keeping our world in check. For Angel and her "siblings," the job was the point, the goal, and the one focus; there was no room for anything else. Once, long ago, she met a man, a human man, and she fell in love. When her brother found out, after she had refused him, he tricked her into killing her human, setting in motion a curse that not only had her repeating her love-drenched pain but also had Lucifer himself bound in the deepest pits of hell.

Every time her one true love is reborn, the cycle repeats, with Angel and he falling in love and then with her losing him again. And again. And again. Angel has kept her emotions close, staying stoic, and staying removed because feeling anything is only pain. But she’s found friends in her life in Chicago. She’s found people she loves and cares about. It must be time for another rebirth cycle…
“Star-Crossed Enemies” is the long-awaited first novel in one of the “Sirenverse’s” favorite side characters, Angel. It’s heartbreaking, emotionally charged, and the story none of us expected, but all of us needed. The prose is on point. The story pulls you in, and the characters are, as always, impossible not to love. With fantastic cameos from some of Liz’s other series and a strong place within the “Sirenverse” and Morgan’s epic adventures, you won’t be able to put it down! Enjoy a new splash into the world of Dealer’s Choice, now focused on everyone’s favorite Angel.

I received a free copy of this ebook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Angel knows that Ryan needed time to adjust after the choices he made. That Baron was going to watch and protect him as he found his new normal. But the silence is eating at her, not knowing what is going on and if he will regain his memories. When Ryan shows up at the door unexpectedly and having blank looks, it kills Angel inside. However, something isn’t normal about Ryan’s transition. He is more in tune than others and remembers things he shouldn’t. Needing answers, they go back to The Library. They both know this is a race against time because Apollo and Lucifer are coming and they need to be ready.

I didn’t want to accidentally give too many spoilers for book one in this, hence it being shorter than my normal rambling. But this was so good. We get some literal flashbacks and see what happened to Artemis and Orion. We get some good villain/evil plot thickening with what the vampires are doing. We get more Morgan being sassy and suppressing her feelings until she is going to explode in the next book. I loved meeting Sirius and the little plot twist with the shifters we were given. And what happens with Baron was sad but became funny and I am waiting to see how that plot wrinkle develops. I need book 3 now.

Ryan, Angel, Morgan, Layla, and the others are back in the next part of Angel’s journey. Ryan is now a vampire. Baron will take him to protect him from the clan wanting to turn him into a monster. Meanwhile, Morgan and the others take up residence at their favorite bar to plot.

Mogan approached her vampire friend, only to have same friend side with the vampires. Angel will partake in several skirmishes with the vamps. Since they attack first, she is not breaking the treaty. All they want is Ryan; the two of them are starting to experience shared visions of their pasts.

What are the visions trying to show them? When the final one happens, everything will change between Ryan and Angel. He has a special demon living within him that will make him incredibly powerful…and that is what the vamps are afraid of. Angel will have to let go of someone she has loved for eons. So much happens in this part of the journey! I love Angel has her powers back! Morgan is another one that is feeling a threat overhead! Lucifer and Apollo are free now that the curse is broken. What will happen next?

Take equal parts urban fantasy and mythology and stir. Pour it out, and you will have the background Liz Cain created for her Star-Crossed romantasy series. The second book is Star-Crossed Friends. In this most recent resurrection of Orion/Ryan, Ryan has chosen to become a Vampire, which breaks the curse.

Liz Cain creates a novel that takes you through many highs and lows with the main characters and the supporting cast. You won't find any slow areas, as each character's emotional state propels the storyline forward. The characters are immortal and powerful yet imperfect, which draws you to them. It's their faults, fears, and imperfection that reveal their humanity.

I recommend Star-Crossed Friends by author Liz Cain.

I was given an ARC from the author, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

The second instalment in Angel and Orion/Ryan’s story is another emotional roller coaster, full of twists and turns, action and walks down memory lane, literally. Another one sitting read as I could not put it down, and the flow of the writing is just so easy to get lost in and not even realise hours have passed. The slow unravelling of the past and present connections, the combined with the continuing underlying wait for Lucifer to challenge Morgan, and the startling final scene, it all keeps you just wanting more.

This is book #2 In the star crossed Trilogy.

This book picks up from book 1.

Angel - Her world has been turned upside down when her fated soulmate Orion was turned into a vampire. The curse she has suffered with for years has now been broken.
She is left broken and not knowing what to do, she's also got to face the fact that Lucifer is now free, Apollo is free and on the search for her and Orion her one true love is gone.

Orion/Ryan - Some truths that wasn't remembered comes to light, one which is hard for Angel, Angels visions are a reminder to Orion on what he once had and who he once was.
Everything is about to change now the curse has been broken.
Ryan wants to become a vampire, once he becomes one he will remember every life he has ever lived.

This is a beautifully written novel, one with lots of twists and turns. You see Angel go on this long journey with the ones she loves, with their help and support.

This isn't the first novel of this authors I have read and I can honestly say it will not be the last. This book caught me hook line and sinker from the very start!

If you are looking for an amazing, easy read fantasy book then look no further, because this authors work is amazing!

This hands down is one of my favorite fantasy series of 2025!

Continuing the story of Angel and Ryan (Artemis and Orion) and the story picks up right where book 1 left off. Ryan has lost all his memories and Lucifer is working towards getting his throne back. I really enjoyed getting to dive deeper into the first life of Artemis and Orion all while Angel and Ryan are trying to navigate the now. And the ending to this book I loved and did not see coming. Looking forward to the conclusion to this series!

Angel and Ryan are spending more time together. They're reliving their memories of their past lives one at a time. The question is, will the memories bring them together or push them apart? Angel knows the last memory may cause Ryan to hate her, but they're reliving these memories for a reason.

This book contains more adventures of Angel, Ryan, Morgan, Macey, vampires, demons, and more. If you love books such as the Anita Blake series, you'll love Star Crossed Friends!

Liz Cain knocks it out of the park again! Her world-building is second to none, and the characters are so real you feel like you know them. Magic, vampires, sirens, angels, shifters - she manages to work them all in without clutter or confusion. This instalment adds so much depth to the story, it will keep you up well past your bedtime, forgetting what world you're actually living in.

Wow! Vampires, angels, gods, shifters, and sirens…oh my! What a story! I loved the adventure and spirit of this book. Seeing the memories thru Angel and Ryan’s eyes was bittersweet. I couldn’t put the book down once I started reading! My jaw is still on the floor after reading the epilogue! Book 3 cannot come soon enough!!

Book 2 in the series and even better than the first which I didn’t think was possible. I love the characters and glad we got to know more of the story of Artemis and Orion in such a fun way with the visions. The way Liz links in all the supernatural species is fab and modern and you get everything in one book.

Ryan (Orion) is now a vampire. Taken under the care of Baron, Angel is putting her trust in him to look after Ryan whilst he transitions.
Few weeks pass and no word.
The curse is broken and Lucifer is set free. Ryan keeps hearing a voice in his head. He calls him his ‘demon.’
Angel and Ryan keep getting visions from their past lives and taking them back.
Ryan is getting frustrated as he wants to remember and now the vampire clan wants him back.

Loved this story. Hooked from the first page. Need the final story NOW!!

Ah I once again jumped into this feet first and did not emerge til I was done.

Angel and Ryan have a lot of figuring out to do. But with the help of Morgan, Beba (teehee), and a couple peaks into the past they set their feet on the correct path...even if it's unsure
