“Vagus Nerve Unlocked” presents insightful studies on heart rate, breathing, and digestion in an informative manner.

In Mark Evans’s “Vagus Never Unlocked,” the author presents and discusses studies on debilitating illnesses such as depression, obesity, inflammation, and memory loss, among others, in correlation to vagus nerve health.

By dividing it into three parts, the book is well-ordered and presentable. The first part discussed the basics of the vagus nerve, including heart rate variability (HRV) as a good indicator for various syndromes and diseases. It is a determinative factor that predicts severe conditions, such as arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and bowel diseases. The author presented two classifications of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). One is the natural method, which recommends humming, box breathing, and the "valsava maneuver," among others. The other is the electronic method, which talks about the left cervical VNS and the right cervical VNS. The second part of the book includes topics of contemplative traditions, which are ways to help achieve a more balanced life through several forms, such as praying, meditating, and more. And in the book’s last pages, Evans said, "The vagus nerve is just one part of a vast network of feedback and control, of input and assessment that we have not yet completely explored and mapped.”

Crisp and compact, the book posits how the vagus nerve is crucial to overall well-being when properly stimulated through the practical strategies encouraged in this book. Surprisingly, Evans mentions that praying even helps increase vagus nerve activation, which sounds overwhelming. “Stimulating the vagus nerve consistently better enhances sending to and from the many organs attached to it, improving various important functions of the body, from the heart rate and respiratory rate to the digestive process,” according to the author. In contrast, the absence of healthy vagus nerves triggers diseases such as hypertension, sleep disorders, epilepsy, and many more, reminding us to give importance to this body nerve that is often neglected. The book’s chapters begin with typical and atypical quotes from some renowned and uncommon people, a way to remind readers of their overall health.

While some insights and information are absorbing, most of the prose just comes and goes, like it enters one ear and exits the other. The text without credible sources is too dry to be persuasive, diluting its effectiveness and satisfying reading experience. Marred with a handful of typographical errors and an unmatched subtitle from two trusted sources, this makes the book less appealing.

Even though it is esoteric, the book is still interesting to medical practitioners and health-conscious individuals. With Evans's effort, “Vagus Nerve Unlocked” still educates readers on this rarely discussed body nerve that connects to critical organs of the body.

'Vagus Nerve: Unlocked' is an introduction to the nervous system that helps readers to tap into their body’s natural ability to attain homeostasis and return to a state of calm. This book has a world of potential and can help readers to transform the way they respond to different types of life challenges. It offers immediate and practical ways to develop a mindful connection with our bodies.

If you are affected by conditions like PTSD, anxiety, pain/inflammation, memory issues, depression and hypertension--and modern medicine and therapies all seem to be failing you--then get your hands on this book today. It offers easy exercises and guidance, based on extensive research, designed to help readers to train their nervous systems to stop overexerting itself and start responding more sedately to daily stressors.

The book suggests that natural methods of stimulating the vagus nerve (done through humming, ice baths, deep breathing and healthy dieting) and electronic methods (done by a licensed medical practitioner) are both beneficial and relatively safe to implement.

In summary, this well researched book provides an excellent and in-depth mini course in physical wellness education. It also provides pertinent information and resources that can really help readers to understand how to work with their vagus nerve system. Overall, this book is very accessible and easy to comprehend. It helped me to deepen my knowledge of the vagus nerve system without me having to rummage through a vast amount of medical jargons. This educational treasure trove is a definite must-read.

Mark Evans's book on health, fitness and dieting, 'Vagus Nerve: Unlocked' has insights for unleashing your well-being by navigating through anxiety, depression, inflammation and stress with emotional balance and practical strategies for daily resilience.

This book has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the vagus nerve and its stimulation. As someone who has never been introduced to the Vagus nerve before, this book is like my first kindergarten teacher and my primary source of information.

This book is highly recommended to readers who are seeking to improve their knowledge and are open to learning new things.

This was an extremely interesting book. It helped connect the breathing techniques used in yoga to the vagus nerve, which influences the heart, lungs and digestive organs. It has an enormous affect on our ability to self regulate, calm anxiety, induce relaxation. The self massage techniques seemed to work on Julian!
