This incredible read sunk its claws in deep and simply did not let go. Captivating, consuming and powerfully thought provoking, this read invades your mind as easily as it does your heart. Absolutely nothing I can say can adequately prepare you for this one without spoiling it, so all I'll say is one-click and dive in. You will not regret it because the suspense is exquisite, the twists stunning and The Feels divine.

I went into this blind. I had no idea what it was about, only that it was by Aleatha and she has done it again. She makes me question how I feel about certain characters. Do I like them? Do I not like them? Should I like them? I spent most of the book trying to piece together all the puzzle pieces. I had a few "aha!" moments. The book started off a little slow for me, but I was intrigued enough to keep reading. Eventually the pace picked up and I didn't want to put it down. I read with a racing heart wondering what the final outcome would be. I was not disappointed. While the ending was satisfying, the epilogue left me wanting more.

WOW! Once again, Aleatha Romig, has crafted a detailed story full of intrigue and deception. I read this book when it was first published as two separate books. Now you get it as one big, thrilling book!

I'll be honest, I'm completely captivated by Aleatha Romig's writing. I am ALWAYS shocked and blown away by how much I am held hostage by the storyline and characters in each book. Light Dark is no different in that respect. The storyline--cults, women disappearing, possible drug trafficking, good guys, bad guys, unsuspecting women--grabs your interest, keeps you turning page after page, holding your breath at times, hoping that just one more tidbit might be revealed to help you discover just what the heck is happening here! Just when you think you might be onto something, WHAM! something else happens to make you rethink what you already thought you knew. I was flipping pages back and forth, saying, "WHAT?" "WHAT?" "NO!" "OMG!"

This book is a suspense-filled, crazy, exciting roller-coaster of a ride. I do not like spoilers, so let me just say, anyone who loves to read books that are suspenseful and full of intrigue, twists, turns, love, hate and emotions all over the map, grab this book and devour it!

Aleatha Romig never disappoints. She is a masterful storyteller who knows exactly how to cast her net and then reel it in, taking her readers to the very edge of their emotions and then restoring them to some normalcy in the end. I had to remind myself to breathe at times, and more than once I was so overcome, I had to close my Kindle and walk away for awhile. This was NOT a bad thing! I absolutely LOVE a book that can draw me in and play with my emotions like that. If you like books like that also, run, don't walk, and snap up Light Dark! This book is beyond a 5-star read for me. I wish I could give it 10+ stars! I'm still trying to figure out how it messed with my head the way it did. I LOVED IT!

In Light Dark Sara wakes in a hospital bed with no past memories. She’s been told she is married to Jacob an Assemblyman living in The Light.

Sara has no memories of her life with Jacob and she has no sight. She relies on Jacob for guidance. It is Jacob’s job as a husband to condition and train his wife to follow the rules set by Father Gabriel. In The Light men have complete control over women. As a wife it is her duty to please her husband. As an Assemblyman’s wife she has rules to follow.

Stella is an investigative journalist in the Detroit area who has been looking for her missing friend. Detroit is heavily riddled with drugs. While Stella is investigating her friends disappearance she finds abused women with missing finger prints. With the help of her boyfriend Dylan who is a detective she’s able dig a little deeper into the mysterious nature of these deaths.

I don’t typically gravitate towards a cult read but the way Aleatha Romig presented the book has been fascinating. I’m intrigued with the way the information has been presented. I’m absolutely curious how this one is going to turn out.

Aleatha Romig dug deep into this community she named The Light. She built an entire community of her own with extensive rules and corrections. This was definitely a thought provoking story with its dated back history of marriage with husbands controlling wives. I was really absorbed by the content and fascinated by the direction of Sara’s character, but then I grew bored as Sara settled into life in the community. I enjoyed her intrigue and curiosity, yet the constant reminder of the way Father Gabriel ruled the women got under my skin.

Just a few less chapters would’ve made the first part exceptional. I sure was relieved when part one concluded with that tasty surprise. I already had my mind set on some of that reveal. I wasn’t expecting that revelation about Sara.

Aleatha Romig wrote an extensive book about The Light, a cult community made up with three different locations. The main location where Sara and Jacob lived was in an isolated part of Alaska. Jacob’s job was to pilot a plane with supplies as well as transport Father Gabriel between the two other locations.

Personally I felt this book was too long. There was a great deal of information being shared regarding this topic, yet it felt like it was never going to end. It was difficult reading the way men corrected the women. Everything had its purpose. While I didn’t agree with the manner in which Father Gabriel ran his community it was part of the cult process.

Close your eyes and imagine waking to a world that you have no memory of—a world so foreign, that you feel as though you have accidentally stepped into someone else’s life. Now imagine being injured and blind, dependent upon strangers who claim to know you intimately. Sara Adams doesn’t have to use her imagination. Because when Sara awakens in a hospital room, devoid of all memories and with a seemingly devoted husband by her side, this scenario is Sara’s new reality.

Jacob Adams, also known as Brother Jacob, is an Assemblyman for a cult-like religious community called “The Light.” Run by Father Gabriel, there is a hierarchy within this community, and as an Assemblyman, Jacob is part of the group’s select “chosen.” As such, it is Jacob’s responsibility to rule by example. It is his job to ensure that his wife Sara embraces the rules set forth by Father Gabriel and willingly relinquishes all control. But with Sara having no memory of her husband, The Light, or the events leading up to her injuries, Jacob’s task is not an easy one. Failure to comply, however, is NOT an option. Failure equals banishment and banishment equals dire jeopardy for them both.

Crossing the miles from Alaska to Detroit, we move from Sara and Jacob’s story to that of investigative reporter, Stella Montgomery. While busily working on a potentially explosive news story for WCJB, Stella is simultaneously working to locate her missing friend and co-worker, Mindy. When Stella is confronted with evidence that an unusual number of women in the Detroit area are turning up dead or missing, she explores the possibility that there is a connection between this and Mindy’s disappearance. But doing so, could put Stella in danger. And as much as Stella’s cop-boyfriend, Dylan, protests her delving further into potentially dangerous waters, Stella just can’t keep her investigative instincts at bay.

Told in 3 different point-of-views (Sara, Jacob and Stella), “LIGHT DARK” is an intensely gripping psychological thriller. With a unique and interesting premise, I was captivated right from the very start. The characters and storyline are well-developed and drew me in immediately. Once I started reading, I just couldn’t put it down!

Throughout the story, I paid close attention to the details, hoping to discover clues that might give me the key to unraveling the mysteries that continued to prevail. And while I did eventually piece together most of the puzzle, there was one key component to the story that I failed to uncover. In fact, it totally blindsided me! Despite having momentarily questioned an “oddity” that initially stood out to me, I ultimately dismissed it as inconsequential when, in fact, it was an important clue that I had hastily pushed aside. Although I later chastised myself for not looking closer at the clue that had been staring me in the face, the very fact that Aleatha Romig was able to dupe me, had me loving this story all that much more!

Time and time again, Aleatha Romig surprised me with the many twists and turns taken throughout Sara and Jacob’s story. Going in, I thought I knew what she had planned. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised and often found myself clinging to the edge of my seat throughout this unique & suspenseful story!!

BOTH books of this phenomenal duet NOW in ONE BOOK!

Aleatha Romig has now combined both books (Into the Light/ Away from the Dark) of the Light duet into one book allowing readers to read the complete story without cliffhangers.

I highly recommend LIGHT DARK (The Light duet) by Aleatha Romig. Into the Light is part one. Away from the Dark is part two. Both are in LIGHT DARK so there are no cliffhangers. This amazing story is sooo good that I couldn't put it down. The characters are some of my favorites and have stayed with me long after reading this exciting mystery about the disappearance and murder of women who have no fingerprints.

I've been working my way through this authors' books in order by publication date. Everything I've read is exceptionally well written with twists that I'm constantly trying to guess while I'm reading. There is always something that I didn't see coming. If you like complex, exciting storylines with characters that are relatable and evoke feelings (love, hate, anger, fear, elation, etc.), you'll love Aleatha Romig's books. I recommend all that I've read: Consequences Series, Behind His Eyes, Ripples, Insidious, The Price of Honor, The Infidelity Series (which is not about cheating), and LIGHT DARK.

I know I haven't shared anything about the content of the story or characters in LIGHT DARK. That's because I believe it's best to go blind into Aleatha Romig's books. Just enjoy the experience as the compelling story unfolds. It'll be an unforgettable adventure!

“I wasn’t investigating a life-and-death story - I was living it.”

Wow! Wow! Wow! Aleatha Romig, you’ve blown my mind, again! This story is just brilliant!

The intricacy of the plot, the outstanding characterization, the overwhelming onslaught of feels, this story is AMAZING! And talk about keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very end! And that ending! OMG!

“It was interesting the deals one made with oneself in an effort to excuse what could be perceived as unacceptable behavior.”

I’m not even going to get into what happens in the story; you need to experience every glorious detail. Jacob & Sara are outstanding. You will fall in love with their strength and their love. The twists, the turns of events, the nail biting, anxiousness, anticipation, waiting for everything to unfold is fantastic! The intensity! I couldn’t get enough!

“I’ve loved you since the first time I saw you, and now, the more I learn about you, the more I love.”

The writing is phenomenal. A fantastic blend of action and suspense. You will be intrigued from the start and every page after! I could not put this book down. The thoughts and feelings evoked will have your mind spinning! Brilliant story, amazing plot, and fantastic writing!

An enticing, breath holding, breath gasping, what the hell is going to happen next, fantastic story! Get ready to have Aleatha Romig blow your mind! A definite must read!

Of all of Aleatha's books that I have read, this one bowled me over the most. The suspense, the magnitude of Aleatha's creativity and imagination, along with the data and research she imparted, mixed with the developing love story of Sara and Jacob in the most dire of circumstances made this book one of the most intriguing reads of mine that I can remember!

Sara Adams, Stella Montgomery, and Jacob McAlister are all linked by The Light. Sara adjusting to a new life in it, Stella investigating it and Jacob adjusting to changes in his life in it. These three are intertwined and every page just captivated me more deeper into the web of The Light. The details amazed and shocked me and I was definitely Aleatha'd more than once!

This book was originally two books, Into the Light And Away from the Dark but now they are together and are read seamlessly. There isn't a lot I can say because there is so much suspense and mystery that you have to find out as you read! But this is a book you don't want to miss! The ending is superb but leaves us guessing (hoping?) that there will be a sequel!

Light Dark, previously known as Into the Light and Away from the Dark, is a thrilling mash-up of mystery, romance, and suspense by Aleatha Romig. Right from the start, you're plunged into a world where secrets lurk around every corner.

Follow Stella as she hunts for her missing best friend, getting tangled up in a web of mystery surrounding The Light. Romig keeps you guessing with every twist and turn, making sure you're never bored.

The characters, like Stella, Sara, and Jacob, are so engaging. Stella's determination, Sara's self-discovery journey, and Jacob's protective nature all add to the story's excitement.

As secrets unravel and The Light's shady side is exposed, you'll find yourself racing through the pages to see what happens next. Romig's writing keeps the suspense high, and the romance adds a nice touch of spice.

And while Light Dark ties up its main mystery nicely, it leaves room for more adventures. Who knows, maybe we'll see these characters again in the future?

In short, Light Dark is a gripping read that'll keep you hooked from start to finish. If you're into mysteries with a side of romance, this one's for you. Get ready for a wild ride where nothing is as it seems!

I couldn't read it fast enough. Like all her books- there are twisted and turns throughout the book. I love the cult theme and the power it surrounds the characters in. The twisted shit they all do for Father Gabriel is unreal- but very easy to believe/ understand the power of brainwashing.

I wasn'tt necessarily shocked by Brother Jacob's true identity nor how Sister Sara easily fell in love with him and I knew deep down that Dylan/ Brothers David was a horrible person!

I would have liked more closure for some of the characters and the news station.

ugh, I need Out of the Shadows to be released, like yesterday!

This one of the first books I read by Aleatha Romig and like all of her other books, I was hooked. The twists and turns of it all keeps you locked in from cover to cover with such detail and characters that leave you wanting more and more every time. This is a psychological thriller with cults, missing memories, and a way of showing you just how crazy the world of Aleatha's creation can be. I could not put it down! Hang on to your seat, because this roller coaster is going to be one of the best.

From the very first chapter this story pulled me in and shook me all around and refused to let go. It's intense, spine shaking, gasp out loud amazing. I could not read quick enough go find out how the story would end. Theres twists and turns that you never see coming promoting the aforementioned gasps. This book started my love of reading books containing cults. I'd give it much more stars if I could. I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you like psych thrillers. Want to start reading them? This is a great starting point. Curious about novels about cults? You guessed it, read this book.

This was difficult for me to get into unlike any other Aleatha's. As I can't turn the pages fast enough to solve the mystery at the end....I wonder why the beginning had me stumped. Jump on board and follow Father Gabriel and his cult. The characters were amazing. I was able to obtain this book from Hoopla.

Started the year with a re-read. I read this back in 2023 when it was two books I loved it then and loved it now! Completely forgot about the main twist! Such a dark, twisty, culty book and hoping the third installment won’t be too long away!
