Whisk Me Away

Rate this book
In the quaint town of Ashwood Falls, Tennessee where everyone knows everyone else's business, Karis Thompson never imagined she'd be returning home. But when a distressing call from her father summons her back, she finds herself stepping onto familiar ground filled with memories, both bitter and sweet. As the daughter of the beloved pastor, Karis is accustomed to being the pillar of strength for her family and the community, yet nothing could prepare her for the heartache that awaits.

Determined to start anew, Karis opens a bakery, Whisk Me Away, in the heart of town, hoping to bring a taste of joy to the locals amidst their struggles.

Sheriff Brant Landon has long been a fixture in Ashwood Falls, content with his solitary life and the peace that comes with it. Scarred by past heartbreak, he's resolved to keep his distance from matters of the heart. But when Karis returns to town, her presence disrupts his carefully constructed walls, stirring emotions he thought he'd buried long ago.

As Karis and Brant navigate their own personal storms, they find themselves drawn to each other in unexpected ways. Despite their differences, they discover peace and understanding in one another's company.

In a town where forgiveness is as sweet as the pastries at Whisk Me Away, Karis and Brant must confront their deepest fears and insecurities to fight for the love they never knew they needed.

Whisk Me Away: 👩‍🍳💋 A beautifully written Christian romance. From page one you were easily captivated by the story. The author’s writing making it a piece of cake to fall in love with the small town of Ashwood Falls and its many inhabitants. The characters were easy to fall in love with, cheering them on from the pages of the book.

Karis: a sunshine, determined, and skilled baker; making her dreams a reality. It was so easy to laugh, cry, and dream right there with her.

Brant: a grumpy, hardworking, and caring sheriff. I mean, what else do I truly have to say here?

I am excited to see what else happens in the small town of Ashwood Falls. I know I already have a few favorite budding couples.

Keep the tissues on hand, this book gave me leaky eyes, in the best way possible.

The characters come to life from the beginning and take you with them on the adventure. The story is well told, and I didn't want to put the book down. I have 2 favorite authors, Karen Kingsbury and Terri Blackstock, and I'm now adding a 3rd, Jordan VanCamp. This story had me captivated from page 1, and you will not regret reading it. I cried, I laughed, I cried, and I laughed so hard I cried again. 💕💕💕 This is the best romance book I have read in a long time. I'm excited to read more from this author 😍

Small town lovers rejoice!! Whisk Me Away has all the Hallmark vibes without the cheesy plot lines or the frustratingly flighty characters.

Karis and Brant are so relatable in a very real way. Their personal struggles and self doubts make them come to life in a way few authors are able to capture.

The sweet town of Ashwood Falls has captivated my heart. There are so many interesting characters I can hardly wait for the rest of the towns happily ever after to unfold! Anyone else seriously invested in Brock and Mia’s budding relationship?!

If you're looking for that feel good Christian romance- that will take you on a twist that requires some tissues- this book is for you.

This is Jordan's first book and I have to say it's a good one. I will self admit that I am not one to read romance, however I gave it a go and I am happy I did! The book focuses on Karis and Brant and their evolving relationship as the plot unfolds. The use of a back and forth first person perspective gets you inside the head of both main characters, something I think was quite clever. It reads often like a movie, switching perspectives each chapter and giving the reader enough to know the character's thoughts but also intentionally limiting at times to save on some suspense and both build and ease tension. I appreciated that we got to know both characters well.

For me, I think the middle of the book is where things picked up and everything we were building towards began to come alive. That was where I was hooked and, admittedly, read the last half of the book in one day!

If I had to give any critique, I think the story could be made even better by adding in some more dialogue from the other characters to round out their personalities (even within first person perspective) and to slow down the pacing in some areas. Sometimes it felt we went through a couple chapters quickly and I wanted to hear more from the best friend or the parents when certain things happened. However, this did not deter from the story. If anything it fed my curiosity for other characters. The twist still hit me hard (in a good way) and the resolution was great, especially when dealing with the emotions post-twist. Seeing Jordan handle these characters in the midst of that was something I really appreciated.

Overall, I recommend this book. It's clean. It's fun. It's feel-good. It's heartwarming. It will put you in a good mood. And it will leave you wondering... what about some of those other characters??? I guess we'll just have to see...

Charming is an understatement when we’re talking about Brant and Karis. With an engaging storyline that had very relatable themes of faith and love. I couldn’t recommend this feel good novel enough🥰

I loved this sweet book! It covers all of the feelings and kept me up late at night to finish! I was amazed that a first-time author brought together this beautiful story so well. I truly felt like I wanted to spend more time with Karis in her small town. There were some twists and turns I didn’t expect and I was anxiously awaiting the progression of the romantic relationship. Jordan did a great job of keeping you hooked and engaged through the ups and downs, and I was always excited to see what would happen when I turned the page. For a first-time author, Jordan hit it out of the park. I’ll be watching for more in the series!

Whisk Me Away is a cute, charming, and clean Christian romance.

Romance is usually outside what I like to read, but having something that I knew wasn't going to have "spicy" scenes, plus thankfully was not cheesy like a lot of Hallmark-style romances, made me step outside my comfort zone, and I enjoyed it. It also made me crave a Monte Cristo sandwich.

Editing-wise, there were a few moments in the book I noticed past and present tense being used interchangeably in a sentence, which could use some fine-tuning for the next installment, but that is a minor nitpick.

Looking forward to the next book in the series!

I throroughly enjoyed this first book in the Ashwood Falls series! I was pulled into the story from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see how the story played out. The main characters are both so likable and complicated. The secondary characters all have stories that I want to know about also. I can't wait for the next book(s) so that I can enjoy their stories also. This book has it all. It's an easy read, it held my attention, I laughed and cried. What more can I ask for?
