More irresistible quilt designs from Kaffe Fassett and other respected designers-including Liza Prior Lucy, Pauline Smith, Roberta Horton, Mary Mashuta, Sandy Donabed, Brandon Mably, Betsy Mennesson, Gill Turley, and Lisa Richardson-are profiled in this book. Quilters with little or no experience will appreciate the full-color photography, as well as the color piecing diagrams found with each of the 20 quilting projects. Complete instructions are accompanied by practical how-to sections.
So the quilts in here may quite be art quilts, but they are still very artistic. I'm a mostly self- and book- taught beginner, so I like that this book rates the projects from least difficult (one star) to most difficult (three stars). There is also a great step-by-step how-to section in the back of each of his books, which is mostly how I'm learning to quilt. My favorites in this book are "Big Bang Quilt," "Zig Zag Bag" (which I made a modified version of), "Ebay On Point Quilt" (which I made a mini-pillow-cover version of), and "Big Diamond Quilt" (which I also made a mini-pillow-cover version of). I think there are about 16 others, most of which are okay. I love how bold he is with color, but he usually doesn't like the same colors that I do, so I have to do some rearranging.
A photographic collection with commentary from acclaimed vangaurd quilt artist, Kaffe Fassett. Fabrics to die for, patterns to drool over. Though I've heard Kaffe can be a prick in workshops and seminars, as reflected in some of his commentary, I'd still donate a kidney to this quilter-ly man any time. I now have more quilts added to my "to do" list.
I will probably never make anything out of this book.
With that said, these quilts are UNBELIEVABLE. SO much effort and design. Pretty good photography. Its was worth it just for the inspiration and the total mind-blow about the details some people can get! CRAZY. This is a really good one to share with Jasmine/April next time we talk quilts.
Purchased during a workshop at the MFA Boston presented by Kaffe, he kindly autographed my copy and stood with me for a couple of pictures as well. I was in heaven!
