Megan Mackie is a writer, actor, and playwright. She started her writing career as an indie author and had such smashing success in her first year with her inaugural book The Finder of the Lucky Devil. She has become a personality at many cons, recognizable by her iconic leather hat and engaging smile.
She is also a contributing writer in the role-playing game Legendlore and Legendlore: Legacies by Onyx Path Publishing and Sirens: Battle of the Bards through Apotheosis Studios. Outside of writing, she likes to play games: board games, RPGs, and video games. She has a regular Pathfinder group who is working their way through Rapanthuk. She lives in Chicago with her husband and children, dog, three cats, and her mother in the apartment upstairs.
This is a wild ride of a read. I highly recommend reading previous book _The Lost _. These books are all part of the Lucky Devil series.
Saint Augustine is an enhanced human--not by choice. Her choices were assigned to her by questionable humans.
She has been attached to a magical being now. That is covered in the previous book.
St. Augustine has a job. She's been assigned as a Constable for the Magical Guild.
And is IMMEDIATELY dumped into a murder assignment. This is just after her entire team deserts her--save for one.
A minor pout is that the odd creatures need to be introduced. Some people may not recognize Officer/Agent Papaqui's species. Some great clues are dropped, but I like that kind of information upfront. :D
Very interesting and not as disjointed as book one. There is a good reason for the disjointed part of book one.

This was a little outside of my normal genre but I enjoyed the book. I found it a little slow to start but once I got into it I just needed to finish it. The world building is great and the characters while unusual are none the less believable. St. Augustina the main character starts the book as the new constable of the Magic Guild Guard. It's not a great start to her new job as all the staff bar one quit in protest on her first day. The community she is working in don't know what to think about her and she initially struggles to win them over. Just to make things interesting she has a vampire murder to solve and the main suspect used to work for the Magic Guild Guard.

This was a strong continuation in the Saint code series, it uses that element that I was hoping for and was engaged with the characters. It uses the world to its advantage and I enjoy the way Megan Mackie writes this type of book and characters. It left me wanting to read more in this series and from Megan Mackie.

Brilliant read that I could not put down. Loads of amazing characters and detailed world building. The story flows really smoothly with lots of action. Definitely worth looking at, but you won't put it back down til it's finished. Five stars
