The second book in the Gilded Empire series. As one of Mari’s known enemies made the drop on her it’s just a matter of time before she will be rescued. She also will not just lie there without a fight. The men in her life Greyson, Dominic, and the new man Nate who saved her life will come for her.
There’s another surprise that comes into play that shocked me, and shocks Mari as well. She lost this person, and yet this person looks exactly like him. Is she seeing a ghost or what?
But a more intimate bond forges with her men. It gets pretty steamy between the three of them...
The ending is extraordinary. It blew me away. That’s why I gave it a 5.
I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

What the What!!
You’ve got to be kidding me. She did it again and left us with another big fat cliff hanger. This one even more crazy than the last one. There is so much going on in this series that it leaves you with whiplash. Definitely not your run of the mill romance if you could even call it that. It’s got me hooked that’s for sure. Can’t wait to see what happens next. I know heads are gonna be rolling.

Swept back into the Gilded Empire of the Marcosa family that rules the mafia syndicate of Seattle and immersed again in the world of “Queen Mari” was a sizzling treat and impossible to stop reading once I started.
What I liked:
* Mari: strong, ruthless, survivor, hands-on, holds the reins tightly, well-oiled team to support her, cares deeply for her “family”, good friend, does what it takes, has three men who love her and would die for her
* Greyson: Mari’s second in command, her friend since childhood, loving and a lover, strong, level-headed, wants what is best for Mari
* Dominic: Mari’s first love, abandoned her, let her down more than once, slowly moving back into being trusted with the possibility of being Mari’s love and lover
* Nate: new on the scene, younger, lethal, slowly learning more about him, protective, loves Mari, feels he has found home
* The secrets that are slowly being revealed while knowing there must be many more that will be uncovered as the series progresses
* That the book drew me in, made me care, and hope that there can be a happily ever after for Mari and her men
* Wondering how Cameron and Ailynn will get along in their arranged marriage
* That though the main characters are criminals they are human, have feelings, care about some things, and can love deeply
* Everything except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how ruthless and evil some of the characters in this series are – do hope that at least one receives his just rewards by the end of the series.

Damaged Kingdom Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
HOLY FREAKING BALLS…….SERIOUSLY JAW ON THE FLOOR!!!!!! MJ Crouch has absolutely LAUNCHED herself into the dark, mafia, reverse harem romance with a freaking bang!! I absolutely loved Broken Crown but I had no clue that I would want to scream and throw my iPad after reading this book with its jaw dropping ending!!!! Mari, Greyson, Dominic and Nate are truly a force to be reckoned with but when Cash keeps wanting to tear down her kingdom… Mari will do anything and everything to protect her kingdom, city, and most importantly her family. Even if that means she has to help her best friend Ash get out from under her father’s reign. But the jury is still out on if Mari asking her cousin to protect Ash was the wisest choice. I absolutely hope we see more of Ash and Cameron because they are a couple that is kerosene and matches!! As Mari and Nate grow closer, Mari also allows herself to get closer to Dominic as well. Greyson knows what is best for Mari and has no issues sharing as long as Dominic and Nate don’t hurt her. One of my favorite moments from the book is the line….”None of us are good men but, I have no doubt we would be Mari’s monsters if she let us!” And I absolutely can’t wait to see what these monsters do in the next book!!! I know Mari is going to unleash hell and Cash better make sure he’s prepared because things are going to be even more dangerous for him now!!! This book has more twists, turns, romance, passion, heat, pain, sadness, and every other emotion you can think of and it’s ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE RIDE!!!!!!

In this second installment to the series, the action really heats up. Mari and her men are attacked repeatedly as the new villain in the city continues his attempts to wrest control of Mari's empire from her. Mari is brutalized by her rival, but her strength and fight help her to survive.
Throughout, Mari's relationships with each of her men deepen and evolve.
Dominic is able to accept the Mari he knows now while remembering the teenager from his past. Greyson has not only solidified an intimate relationship with Mari, but has also come to accept that she needs more than just him in her life. Even Nate and Mari become closer. While she has unique relationships with each of her men, Mari and her men also manage to create a balance amongst them all.
Each of the male leads are unique characters and develop their own relationship with Mari. Greyson loves her deeply and is ever the strategist. Dominic is a bit more domineering in their intimate relationship, allowing Mari to cede control while he protects her. Nate is a calming influence. His quiet strength makes her feel safe and protected. Ms. Crouch's ability to create nuanced and original characters make her books must-read romances.
Full of action and with an unforeseen twist ending, this mafia story brings equal parts romance and intrigue to the reader. Trigger warning for descriptions of violence.

Wow! Honestly, I could say all kinds of things about Damaged Kingdom, but "wow" pretty much sums it up.
I thought the cliffy in Broken Crown was a jaw-dropper, but it's got nothing on this one. To be fair, MJ Crouch did warn of cliffhangers as the Gilded Empire series is an ongoing story, and since this author doesn't do things by half, I should've been ready. I so wasn't. Not even close.
Obviously, I can't go into details without giving spoilers, so I'll stick to what I can tell you - This series is a deliciously dark #whychoose romance with the kinds of men who would burn the world down to protect the woman they love. That doesn't mean Mari isn't capable of taking care of herself. She's as fiercely protective of her men as they are of her.
As of right now, I haven't fully decided on a favorite of Mari's loves. I guess if I had to choose, it would be Grey. If any of the three could be said to be Mari's soulmate, it would have to be Greyson. Of course, I fully expect MJ Crouch to pull me in every direction with each new addition to the series, so my fave could very well change.
So, I'd sum it up by saying the Gilded Empire world is dark, sexy, and dangerous, and I can't wait for more. I would highly recommend starting with book one, as this is a continuing story. I would also highly recommend the series if you enjoy #whychoose dark romance.

I voluntarily reviewed "DAMAGED KINGDOM" WOW!!! The second book in "Gilded Empire Series" is full of intrigue, suspense, violence, angst, dark situations, possessiveness, ruthlessness, erotic reverse harem romance, organized crime, danger, twists & surprises making this a very addictive page turner to the end.

Damaged Kingdom is the second book in the Gilded Empire series. I highly encourage you to read the first book in the series, Broken Crown, first. Damaged Kingdom is a mafia why choose romance between the queen, Mari Marcosa, and her men and it picks up right where Broken Crown left off. And writing this review without spoiling anything is tricky, but beware that some secrets are revealed in this book! And holy cliffhanger!!!!! Buckle up friends for a bumpy and entertaining ride!!
In this book, we dive a little deeper into Mari and her relationships between Greyson, Dominic, and Nate. While the story and conflicts are still ever twining, little bits and pieces of their armor are chipped away as they evolve into this new dynamic with the four of them. You get a glimpse of a different side of them all, but since there are 2 more books in the series there obviously is much more to be revealed. You also get to see some events take place that are mentioned in the first book and get our mind blown by the reveals in this book. I am dying to read the next book in the series!!! May 17th can’t come soon enough!

This story picks up right where it left off in Broken Crown. It also continues with the excitement, suspense and romance. Mari seems to have only a small group of people she can trust and that will keep her safe but she has a lot of others who just want to see her die so they can take over her empire. Her relationship with Greyson, Dominic and Nate continues to grow at different intensity. All three of them will stand beside her and would protect her with their lives. The new man in town who wants to take over is causing chaos in all of Mari's businesses and does not care who dies while he causes damage. The secondary characters are great and really add a great deal to the story.
Damaged Kingdom is so breathtaking! What's is going to happen next? I have thoughts of what the future might bring and will be curious to see if any of my guesses are right. But what a cliffhanger-I need book 3 Fierce Monarch like yesterday!

Explosive secrets are unraveling! DAMAGED KINGDOM is the second book in MJ Crouch's Gilded Empire series and is NOT a stand-alone read and ends on a cliffhanger. The characters all endeared themselves to this reader in the first book in the series, so it was easy to pick up this one and continue on with what we knew about their lives and the danger surrounding them. The angst and drama is top notch, but I felt like this one drug a bit in character connection. I liked them already, but there wasn't a lot of depth coming out that was new or unique to keep me hanging on with baited breath to see what was going to happen next. I enjoyed the read and think the storyline has big potential, this one was just a bit slow and unfulfilling for me. I'm looking forward to the fireworks that are about to explode when book three gets here after this cliffhanger though!
I recommend this book as well as the first in the series to anyone who enjoys a reverse harem, why-choose mafia storyline. Dark romance and hidden secrets. This series must be read in order and each book ends on a cliffhanger.

In Damaged Kingdom, MJ Crouch delves deeper into the gritty brutality of Mafia life. The ferreting out and dealing with those who would be traitors and enemies seeking to depose the Queen of Seattle. There's an old saying "heavy is the head that wears the crown" and it accurately describes the everyday balancing act that Marianna Marcosa must accomplish as the head of a Mafia family. She continuously juggles the need to be strong, indomitable and commanding the respect of those who've pledged their fealty to her while taking care of them as extended family and retaining their loyalty. She must keep her Capos in line and deter threats from within. There's a war bubbling just under the surface as Cash Beckstrom and the Aces escalate by pushing limits, infiltrating operations and threatening lives. All the while, Mari slowly solidifies her relationships with her three men. They become her haven and soft place to fall. There's an epic twist at the end that you wouldn't, in a million years, see coming and it sets up the next book perfectly.

Simply wonderful continuation to the series. Strong characters and wonderful story
The second chapter in this simply riveting read and I guarantee that MJ Crouch will once again have you engaged in a full-on Mafia romance story that is dark and dangerous.

Damaged Kingdom is the second installment of MJ Crouch's Gilded Empire series. It takes up right after the cliffhanger in Broken Crown. It's hard to review this book because it does not stand alone. It is completely dependent on what will come after it. The story of mafia queen Mari Maricosa continues along with the men in her life. Greyson, Dominic and Nate are all integral parts of her life and the storyline. Theirs is a violent world but also highly erotic. The cliffhanger at the end of Damaged Kingdom didn't come as a surprise to me. I saw this coming from book one. I am curious where the story is heading. So if you plan on diving into this series go in with the knowledge that you will need to read multiple books to get all of the answers. Also you need to be comfortable reading very graphic scenes regarding violence and intimacy because that is the majority of this storyline.

Holy smokes…..this series just pulls you right in as the hits keep coming to Mari, the Queen and her men. With Mari on the mend, she’s just as fierce and formidable and her men, Grey, Dom and Nate stay by her side to help heal her and get her back. A new player is introduced that ups the suspense and Mari isnt holding back, she will do whatever it takes to protect her kingdom and the men will do whatever it takes to protect their Queen. The heat is on, and it’s not just the threats, it heats up within the confines of the bedroom and holy smokes…is it just me or is it getting HOT.
The pages were flipping and I couldn’t put it down, suspense, betrayals, steam…ahem steam….and Mari, GIRL CRUSH I so have on her. The ending had me on the edge and I CAN’T WAIT to see how it all plays out.

This was a great 2nd book in the series! It picks up right where the last one left off and you definitely need to read the first book prior to this one. It kicks off with a bang and is high on suspense with Mari and her men trying to smoke out the enemies into the open. We get to see more relationship building between Mari and all of her men this time as well and I really enjoyed that. We also get to see the men working things out between them as well and working together. The story develops well and kept my attention the entire time. It flows well and keeps you engaged with the characters and what is going on. It does end with another big twist and cliffhanger and I need the next book now!!! This has been a phenomenal series so far and I can't wait to see what comes next and how Mari deals with it all.

Omg brilliant book 2. I'm so loving this series.
This is the continuing story about Mari Marcosa, Mafia kingpin and her men Greyson, Dominic and Nate.
Well to say the cliff hanger was inconsequential would be a gross understatement. I did not see that coming.
The guys are getting closer as are each of them to Mari as well. The drama and Action is unrivalled and makes me want to read on to see what's going to happen next! It's so compelling!
MJ Crouch invites us into a world full of characters so removed from this life but it's a world we want to be involved in. Very much an enthralling story that holds you captive from start to finish and I for one can't wait for the next installment.

Love, brutality and mafia royalty. This consuming story drags you in and keeps you captive with the twists and turns. Bloodshed is a given in a mafia book and there is plenty in this book. But there is also love, not the mainstream diner dates and roses, but a love that suits the characters. Twisted fates and predestined roles are challenged and fulfilled.
This series is much darker and morally grey than my regular choice of romantic suspense story but it is compelling and hard to put down.
And that cliffhanger ending is epic. Wow.

Let's start with I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review. I applied for the whole series. Going in I knew these were not stand-alone books, and so far, they end with a cliff hanger. If I was purchasing these I'd wait until the series is complete and binge read on some lazy weekend. I mean I've found it hard to put these books down when life is knocking at my door, things like work, dinner on the table and sleep are a distraction from this series. The wait to get answers is killing me! Oh, but in a good way.

Holy hotness! The first book, Broken Crown was very action packed with a side of spice. This book was packed with spice, and I mean lots of it, with a side of action. Mari and her men are finding their way into a family and each of them considers their relationship as such. Grey, Domenic and Nate think about each other's feelings and needs just as much as they do Mari's. It seriously just works out for them. And while I said with Broken Crown other reverse harems turned me off to the genre, but the way that MJ Crouch has written hers works and makes them worth reading.

This is book 2 in The Gilded Empire series and it features Mari, Greyson, Dominic and Nate. Cash is still running around wreaking havoc everywhere. Mari and her men are simply beautiful together! The ups and downs bringing them closer than ever.
The anticipation is giving me tunnel vision. I am absolutely zeroed in on this book and NOTHING else! It is written so well. This second installment is even more sexy and riveting than the first. The mystery and suspense are making me antsy. It’s like I’m watching a movie and I’ve just watched a DEVASTATING plot twist. My heart is breaking for Mari and her men. Even though these books in this series end with cliffhangers, it is worth the wait because we don’t have to wait long between them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Holy cliffhanger, Batman! Even knowing it was coming and expecting it, it still caught me entirely unprepared. I loved seeing Mari and her trusted inner circle finding their new normal in those moments of quiet between bouts of complete chaos. This book had a little bit of everything, including several surprise revelations and one not so big surprise. At least, I was kind of expecting that last one. However, it’s left me absolutely rabid to find out what it means for what’s going to happen next in the series. Next book! NOW!

Wow! The pace certainly kicked up in this book. So much drama, heat and action. The 2nd book in the series did not disappoint and I couldn’t put my kindle down! The heat very much intensifies in book 2, this was as scorching as I anticipated.
The story kept me entertained throughout as well. If you like hot mafia reads then this is the book for you!
Be warned though this is a trilogy so you need to read book 1 first to fully understand book 2. Book 2 ends on a cliffhanger! But don’t worry as book 3 releases really soon, we won’t be kept waiting for the conclusion for too long!

This is the second book in the series - it is a continuous story so read Broken Crown first. Now what to say and how not to spill any tea in the process. First off, the story picks right up on the cliff we were left on. Greyson, Dominic, Nate and Mari continue to work together to keep the Marcosa Family on top in Seattle's Underworld. All kinds of danger is coming out of the woodwork, Mari is dishing back but sometimes the worst danger is closer than one ever expects. Holy jaw dropping goodness! I cannot wait for the Black Widow to strike! If you want a story that keeps you guessing and staying up late for one more page.....this is it. Enjoy!

This book builds up the suspense from the first book on steroids!! The cliffhanger from book one is resolved and more questions arise as Mari navigates her relationships with Greyson, Nate, and Dominic. We learn a lot more about Nate and Dominic in this book too!
I recommend reading the books in order 100%! You definitely need the introductions to everyone in book one to really appreciate the development in book two. And that CLIFFHANGER! I'm so glad these books are coming out so close together! I used to not enjoy cliffhangers, but knowing we will have the answers we seek soon makes it so worth the building anticipation! Give this series a try with "Broken Crown" first!

This is the second book in the Gilded empire series. This book picks up right where the first one left off, so make sure you read Broken Crown first. Mari and her men are continuing to build their relationship while attempting to lure out their enemies. If you love action packed suspenseful stories this is the book for you. The book does end with a big twist and cliffhanger but its definitely worth the read and a bonus is you don't have to wait long for the next book. I can't wait to see what happens next with Mari, Greyson, Dominic and Nate.
This series is so good, you would never know this is MJ Crouch's first time writing a mafia why choose romance.

ARC review. Damaged Kingdom is the second part of MJ Crouch’s new series, Gilded Empire. It has something for everyone: romance, reverse harem, great characters, slow building storyline but action packed and Mari the Mafia Queen. The men are strong and loyal and the women even stronger. This section of the story ends with an unexpected, shocking reveal. I’m thrilled to only have to wait a few weeks for the next part. This is a different part of Janie Crouch but the end is still the strong characters, interwoven storyline and entertaining read that I have come to expect from Janie. Excited for a divergent genre storyline.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. My my my. A lot is happening in the second book - a lot of backwards and forwards that has you wondering, where the hell the author is going with all of it. And yes, there is more ménage in this book than in the first, but it literally takes till the last sentence to have that *OMG-how the heck did that happen*-moment. And, wouldn’t be kingpin it there weren’t bodies. Lots of them. Nevertheless, great story, that has you wondering, what happens to the traitor…

This is the second instalment in MJ Crouch’s latest series. It’s a mafia based dark reverse harem romance story. It’s told from the main 4 characters perspectives with Mari our main character leading the way. Book 1 Broken Crown introduces the reader to a woman very much in a man’s world leading a Mafia family. Mari is targeted by a newcomer in book 1 wanting to take over her empire and Damaged Kingdom leads us further into this world with a surprise defection from her camp, leaving you wondering about the repercussions and waiting for the next book. Power and control, greed, jealousy, seduction, eroticism, family, and relationships are all dealt with in this dark storyline that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens and why. Highly addictive read.
