Fierce Monarch is the third book in the Gilded series by MJ Crouch. It picks up where book 2, Damaged Kingdom, leaves off so you need to read the books in order so you know what is going on in the series so far.
Damaged Kingdom left us with a jaw dropping revelation and Fierce Monarch opens up with Mari Marcosa reeling and trying to figure out how she didn’t see this coming. A lot of the book features her turmoil and how she copes with the loss and how she plans to move forward. While not a lot happens in this book a lot does if that makes sense. Fierce Monarch gives us more insight into who some of the players are and how they became to be who they are. Loyalities are questioned and Mari fights the constant battle of defending herself and her position in the family and in the city. When the unexpected happens, Mari is forced to turn to one person she least expects it. Not only can a phoenix rise from the ashes, Mari Marcosa can too.
While Mari is figuring how to put herself back together, Dominic and Greyson step up to help the woman they love while protecting her position. While Greyson has always had Mari’s best interests at heart, Dominic still has much to prove and in this book we just see how far he is willing to go to show her he means forever.
There is so much I want to say about this book, but I’m afraid I will spoil it if I go on with this review. This book is just like the other two in the series and it’s a why choose dark romance with mafia vibes. Where do I start? Well to begin with this series must be read in order. I was speechless at the end of Book 2, and now with this book was overwhelmed with information that unfolds. Mari Marcos’s is betrayed in her life by man she lets into her life, into her home, her world, and into her bed. What is she supposed to do? Thank goodness for Greyson and Dominic they are by her side. That doesn’t erase the turmoil that is happening around her. The war the Nate’s brother Cash has taken on her, and her family. She must get closure.

I must say that this book is a filled with violence, protective men who will stop at nothing to protect Mari. There is one some scene that was a little over the top. Grey wanted to stop it, but Dominic refused. In the end these men were doing what Mari wanted.
There is one other author that comes to mind when reading this series, and that’s Maya Banks.
MJ Crouch is a fantastic author, and this book like the others before it had so much more to the book then just physical interaction.

HOLY CRAP SERIOUSLY IM ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT WITH THIS SERIES!!!! MJ Crouch has made such an amazing leap into this world full of mafia kingpins, reverse harems, action, violence, passion and so much more. This is the third installment of the Gilded Empire Series and I know this will be a series I read over and over again and probably react the same way every time. When I say this book was a nail biter I’m not even remotely joking about that. MJ really knows how to grab her readers attention and keep them guessing truly. I can usually figure out the twists before they happen but MJ has me so freaking distracted with something else that when the twist happens I’m freaking out. Mari is such an amazingly strong female character, that is full of heart, passion, love, respect, responsibility, loyalty and expects nothing less from the people and family she protects. Greyson is such a good soul and will do anything and everything to protect and love Mari even if it means protecting her from herself. Dominic is so charismatic, funny, deathly loyal to Mari that he would give anything and everything for her. These two men know Mari probably better than she knows herself, but even they can’t always fight her demons for her. Mari just needs to remember that she’s not alone and hasn’t ever been alone, they are people in her world who would give themselves to help her. Nate has been a wild card, Mari has an extremely strong pull towards him but can she trust herself, after what Cash has done? Will everyone come out of this war unscathed? Can trust and forgiveness be given too many times when love is involved? I’m literally foaming at the mouth waiting for the final installment of this series…..I HAVE TO KNOW HOW IT ENDS…..BUT I BETTER NOT BEIN TEARS! This is the third installment in the series about a mafioso family in the Northwest. At the end of Book 2, Mari - the head of the crime family - lost one of her lovers to her rival. Since then, the danger and intrigue has only ratcheted up. She and her remaining two men struggle to navigate repeated assassination attempts, betrayal amongst those they trust and the loss of an integral part of her family.
Facing death threats from every side, Mari receives assistance from unlikely sources. With added knowledge and support, she will have to make desperate moves to maintain her power and peace in the city she loves. Layered on top of this intrigue, she is still reeling from the betrayal by one she loves. The moves made by her rival put her loved ones at risk and draw innocents into the crossfire.
The relationships between Mari and her lovers are unique from each other and nuanced. They each give her something that she needs that only they can provide in her world of crime and death. They help to bring her happiness when she has to do so much wrong to maintain the peace and protect her city. I kind of hate that certain aspects of those relationships bring her so much pain, but this definitely adds depth and intricacy to the plotlines of the book.
The action is fast and furious, with unexpected twists to the various storylines keeping the reader engaged.
Four stars for this part of the mafioso reverse harem romance.

I absolutely loved this story! It pulled me in from beginning to end and we get to delve into the betrayal that happened at the end of the previous book. This is the third in the series and you really do need to read the previous two in order to fully enjoy and know and understand what is going on. There is plenty of action and intrigue in this one as Mari and her men are reeling from what happened and trying to figure out a way forward. There is a lot going on as Mari is still trying to find the mole/moles in her family and learn how long it has been going on and how deep before she roots them out. She is trying to move forward a step at a time in order to figure it all out and not miss something. She has multiple betrayals happening at once and is trying to withstand them all. There is more than enough happening to hold the readers attention as well as building for more to come. I really enjoyed the continued relationship and character development that we get as well. Don't want to share much in actual details due to potential spoilers. I continued to be super engaged with our characters and rooting for them. The story developed well and ran smoothly. It gives us more information and explanation for what is going on and where some of it started. Mari continues to build her foundation with her men and is working toward rooting out all the Aces however that needs to be done. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next one! There's definitely some more reveals coming and I can't wait to see what those twists are.

May 21, 2024 Book #3 in an absolutely amazing series. Mari runs a city and she's got a wide variety of friends and enemies, and sometimes people she thought she could trust turn out to be one of the bad guys.
She's in a relationship with 3 different men; Grey, Dominique, and Nate. They all support one another and are a family. At the end of book 2 she found out that Nate is actually related to Cash her biggest enemy and the person causing her a lot of trouble and heartache. Mari is heart broken; she doesn't trust easily, but Nate had her full trust. Now her heart is shattered and she's even pushed Grey and Dominique away.
It takes a while but eventually Dominique and Grey work their way back into her heart and rebuild it piece by piece, but a part of still missing for all of them. Then she sees Nate again and finds out that things aren't necessarily the way they seem, and he might not be the bad guy she thinks he is. Nate has actually suffered a lot in his life and Cash is actually the biggest reason why. It takes a while but eventually Marie hears him out and while she fears to trust him he proves himself over time.
Each book ends like crap and you can't wait to get to the next one. This one is almost worse than the others; all 3 of the men Mari love have been hurt and the book ends with us not knowing if they will be ok. Will Mari have to find a way to live without someone else who means everything to her or will things finally start going good in her life. We all have to wait for the final book to find out, I can't wait to read it.

Dark days for Mari and her Men only continue as Cash and his Aces whittle away at Mari and the Marcosa’s grip on Seattle’s mafia power-seat ~ I can’t wait to read the fourth book where, hopefully, all of the puzzle threads will be tied together to, hopefully, provide a happy ending for those I’ve grown to care about.
What I liked:
* Mari: strong, ruthless, survivor, hands-on, holds the reins tightly, well-oiled team to support her, cares deeply for her “family”, good friend, does what it takes, has three men who love her and would die for her
* The true abiding love Mari’s men have for her
* How this book builds seamlessly on the previous book
* That Cameron and Aislynn are back from their honeymoon and their marriage of convenience appears to be becoming more
* Learning more about the backstories of the main characters – and wondering how some of the extended family might play a part in the next book
* That a few of the bad guys were unearthed and were dealt with ruthlessly
* The anticipation that book four will see the happy ending I was for Mari, her men, and those that are truly allied with them
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to
* Thinking about how evil, cruel, crazy, and ruthless Cash is – do hope he meets his comeuppance eventually

First things first: That cover! Okay, not just this one. This is a series of terrific covers. As someone who's been known to choose a book based on the cover alone, I have to say that this series has some of the best covers!
Then, we have what's inside those covers, and the story lives up to the high expectations set by the covers. Yes, there are cliffies, but that just makes the story even more gripping, in my opinion. It's dark, violent, and gritty. It's also sexy as sin and emotional - the kind of emotional that gets you right in the feels. Book 2 left us with a big jaw-dropper, the kind that can leave even the tough queen herself reeling. This part of the book is where I feel like we get to see the most growth from Mari, and while it takes some heartache to get there, she shows just how strong she really is. Of course, there are still more twists since this book doesn't finish the story.
In my continuing effort to avoid spoilers, I'm going to remain vague just in case someone happens across this before reading the first two books. This is where I say stop right there! Read books 1 and 2 before learning anything about this one. This is a continuing story, and it should definitely be read without spoilers. Some twists just don't have the same impact without going in blind. Trust me, you won't regret it when it's all said and done.

This was a captivating read, wonderful characters and scenario that you’ll love
Fierce Monarch is a next book in the series and I guarantee that where the Damaged Kingdom is concerned you will be totally captivated by this book. It is a simply wonderful read and I guarantee that you will be blown away by this the next book in the series.
The writing is simply wonderful; and the characters just hold your attention from start to finish. The Damaged Kingdom has Mari with her hands completely overflowing when the war erupts between the two factions and it is clear that there is going to be no peace until the war has been stilled.
Mari knows that her family have become under threat and that if nothing is done about it they will be taken out as targets and that her men will do everything they can to protect her back and ensure that she is safe. As it becomes apparent that the leadership is being undermined and that they will have to work full out to help her.
I guarantee that you will love the writing and the plot of this book which will keep you completely captivated so that you can discover what the final outcome will be.

Betrayal, you would think that Mari Marcosa would be used to it by now, but not when it comes from someone that she let get close, too close. In her world there are few that she can truly trust, depend on, now she is left with just two. She knows that after the last incident that her capos may be calling for her to step down, but if so, they don’t really understand her determination to end the man who is trying to destroy her. The deceit, the lies, the risks, the threats, her long overdue confrontation with her uncle, decisions that she must make in order to keep control…to survive. Her move from her beloved home will be done, not because she wants to leave, but for the safety of others. When an innocent woman is killed to strike at her, they have crossed a line that she will not let go unpunished. She understands when they attack her, but now, all bets are off and she will show them who she is, Reina, the Queen is back! I so look forward to the finale of this amazing series! There are more problems and complications coming after Mari no matter where she goes. How can she handle them all and manage to keep herself and her family safe. Who can she trust, who has her back and who will truly love and protect her no matter what. So many people are close to her but not all of them are on her side and some only want to take her down. With all she has been through I can only hope she gets the HEA she deserves. Cash has a large grudge against the Marcosa family and will do anything and everything to take them down. Mari just has to figure out what he is up to and how to stop him before someone else get hurt or killed.
I love how strong these main characters are and how they try to be there for each other. Every page I turn had my anxiety and anticipation levels going up. What does Vicious Throne have in store for us? I can't wait to find out.

I voluntarily reviewed "FIERCE MONARCH" This story picks up where "DAMAGED KINGDOM" finishes pulling you right back into all the violence, intrigue, suspense, danger, emotional turmoil, angst, traitors, a war breaks out between Mafia, twists that keeps you turning the pages.
Mari is dealing with Maricosa Empire which is in trouble she loves her guys even the one who broke her heart, lives have been lost, injuries piling up, she needs her men to help if she wants to beat Cash at his destructive game he's playing.
I definitely recommend to get this book Mari, Greyson, Dominic & Nate take you on quite intense journey plus watching Cash trying to take Mari down the woman in charge of the Throne the place he believes he belongs.
I'm so looking forward to "VICIOUS THRONE" next to see what happens after that cliffhanger it can't come soon enough.

Let me start off by saying this book cannot be read as a standalone, you must start at the beginning with Broken Crown. Fierce Monarch is the third book in the Gilded Empire Series. The story picks up right where Damaged Kingdom left off. Mari must continue to defend her territory and those loyal to her while dealing with a terrible betrayal by one of her closes confidants. Grey and Dominic, who were also blindsided by Nate's betrayal, are still doing whatever it takes to protect Mari. The enemy thinks they have won, but they underestimate Mari and her men and that will be their down fall. This book also ends on a cliffhanger but thankfully we don't have to wait long to see what happens next.
This is the first why choose romance MJ Crouch has wrote, but you would never guess that with how phenomenal the story is. The story is action packed and will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.

Fierce Monarch picks up right where Damaged Kingdom left off. This story is extremely fast paced, filled with danger and violence as well as strong emotions. Mari has her hands full as war erupts between the factions. She has to deal with traitors from the outside as well as within. Not only does her family become targets but those she protects do as well. Her men are there to protect her, have her back and be a safe place for her. Truths come to light that change the course of her leadership as it's being undermined at every turn. I really was completely captivated while reading this book. I anxiously await the finale to discover how it all plays out. And, of course you guessed it...dramatic cliffhanger.

We've reached book 3 in the Gilded Empire series. I assume that the 4th will be the final installment. The Maricosa empire is still in a downward spiral. Mari loves her men even though one has broken her heart, nothing will break her spirit. Things are quickly approaching the final endgame. Lives have been lost. Injuries are mounting. Mari will need to gather her men around her if she wants to beat Cash at this destructive game that he started. Right now I'm honestly not sure how I feel about the series until I read the final installment. Eroticism is a big part of the storyline so if you're not comfortable with that you may want to think on things. As with the previous two books, Fierce Monarch was told from dual POV and leaves you with another giant cliffhanger.

This is book three in the Gilded Empire series which is a single continuous story. I love that this book picks up right where we were left on the cliff in book two. No, I am not going to elaborate. I love this author's stories and expanding into the mafia realm has been nothing shirt of amazing. This author is a true storytelller and includes so much more than you realized you wanted. This series is packed full with absolutely everything a reader needs. Including moments that distracted me into a false sense of security and then floored me with the next bomb in the storyline. Very sneaky and I loved every second of it. I am all in with these characters and cannot wait to read more. I cannot recommend strongly enough - you need to read this series. Enjoy!

This book focuses more on Nate and his brother Cash who is hell bent on killing off Mari, Dominic and Greyson and taking the empire she had built.
Another fast paced book with lots of
Important moments in the story intricate to the plot. So good to see the truth coming out and the relationships getting back on a even footing.
I love that we find out more about Nate and his family and background and how it affects his current situation. But is also great to see the other guys accept the situation as well.
So well done on all levels. These books have been the best and I just can't wait for the gripping conclusion to the series.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review. It's hard to write a review, because one has to have read the first two books to understand what is going on, and it ends with a cliff hanger. I don't want to give spoilers. It's an awesome book, keep you on the edge of your seats suspense. Mari has to deal with the fall out of the last book and her feelings regarding that while still trying to be queen of the Maricosa Empire. Meanwhile her Boys, as she likes to think of them are trying to keep her alive and help her process her feelings while dealing with fall out of their own. I can't wait for next book, I am seriously intrigued to see how the cliff hanger is going to play out.

The continuation of this story is finally starting to come together. Despite the betrayal Nate left in his wake that threatens to take everything she built so far into the ground, those loyal to Mari are still doing anything and everything to keep her safe and on her throw, even if she doesn't see it.
The enemy thinks he won but her men and her a had it with everything and it time to show everyone why she's called Queen.
I'm so excited to read the last instalment because something was uncovered and I have my suspicions about what is going to happen and May 31st can not come around fast enough.

With her heart broken, loosing face within her ranks, what can she do? Her 2 men that are left don't know how to pull her out, trying to keep the vultures away, and trying to move forward. After nearly loosing her sister and cousin to a fire, the Queen finally is awake and wants answers. NOW. This is the third book in the Gilded Empire series. It is important to read the books in order and each book ends in a cliff hanger (such cliff hangers!). Fierce Monarch follows the white knuckled, page turning, sitting on the edge of the seat story and, yes, ending in another cliff hanger. To say I am eagerly awaiting the final book of series and how our heroes and heroines survive (please, please, please) and who is left standing. And I will likely reread the series in a very short order. Bravo!!!

Book 3 in this series is a follow on to a betrayal! You MUST read these books in order else you won’t appreciate the characters and the previous events. This is not a spoiler post, so will keep the info short and sweet. Mari Marcosa was betrayed by a person she trusted and Fierce Monarch follows immediately into the storyline…showing the chaos that ensues, the emotional upheaval and what’s worse is the other characters vying for her position at the head of the family. As the story progresses the secrets that she held and thought were the truth are not! Leading to another shock ending…. Ok I know I’ve not given much away, but seriously the intensity will keep you turning the pages and waiting on the final book due very soon. Highly recommended.

This interconnected series just keeps getting better and better! Threats are everywhere and the hits just keep coming and coming. What a well thought out, interweaved story of intrigue, back stabbing, family and fierceness. You just can't stop reading the next word, the next line, the next paragraph. Everything can change from that first word to the end of that paragraph. I like her idea of a book club too. Well done Ms. Crouch.
