Jean Adamson was a British writer and illustrator of children's books. She was best known for the Topsy and Tim books, the first of which was published in 1960 and which have sold 27 million copies. Adamson's creations were also featured widely on television in 84 episodes of Topsy and Tim.
I remember them well from my own childhood so the fresh-look illustrations just add to the simple story.
Topsy and Tim use lockers and showers, put on armbands and try swimming. It's not success at every step, but they don't give up and do make progress. Best lesson for a preschooler.
It's an interesting story with the full swimming experience covered. Right down to not running round the pool.
This is an interesting book where the characters Topsy and Tim learn to swim without their arm bands. It includes important messages such as pool hygiene, using the foot bath before swimming, as well as safety issues, no running near the pool. It portrays that however hard a task seems don't give up and keep trying. Tim struggled at first to swim unaided however he kept trying and eventually managed to swim unaided. The illustrations of this book fill the whole pages as well as support the text and the text is also easy to read.
