“Only Human” tells the story of Daniel, a man who has lost faith in himself and the world around him. Once a respected community figure who dedicated his life to helping others, he now hides in dark alleys and shuns other’s company. When a chance meeting stirs up memories of his past, Daniel is forced to try and regain a belief in himself that he thought he had lost forever.

Nestling in a dark alley, Daniel feels that he has nothing to offer to the world and decides to commit suicide. He is disturbed by the presence of a young boy who triggers memories of his past. Born on a small farm his first memory is that of escaping from a mineshaft, apparently with his father’s help. The incident, however, causes a change in his parents’ behaviour. His mother, who was initially a caring figure, begins to sneak behind his father’s back. She constantly monitors Daniel’s health even though he is not sick and, one night, matters come to a head. Discovering that his wife intends to take Daniel to hospital for a series of tests, Daniel’s father lashes out. Shocked by his behaviour, he retreats into himself and his wife’s paranoia grows.

A series of incidents at school, in which Daniel displays unusual strength, reveals the reason behind his parents’ erratic behaviour. Daniel has been born with a set of hero like powers that distinguish him from others. Daniel decides to use these powers to help others and, after resisting pressure from government agents to work for the authorities, builds a reputation as a man of the people. However, when he fails to rescue a young boy from a house fire, he blames himself and retreats from the world around him. Returning to the present day, the young boy claims that he has a specific link to Daniel's past and has been sent by a mysterious figure to restore Daniel’s faith in himself.

He takes Daniel to a local guesthouse and introduces him to the landlady whose life Daniel once saved. They persuade him to resume his heroic deeds and he begins to recapture the public’s imagination. As grows the young boy grows weaker, as if his strength is being transferred to Daniel. When Daniel stops a plane from crashing to the ground the crowd rush to congratulate him until a woman appears from the plane with a baby in her arms. She begs Daniel to save her son’s life. Unable to do anything for the baby and once again blaming himself, Daniel flies away with the young boy in his arms.

Upon landing, he is greeted by a mysterious figure who reveals that had sent the young boy to watch over him. He says that he needs Daniel’s help in caring for people that cry out for mercy and assistance all over the world. When Daniel admits that he believes in the innate goodness of those around him and confesses that it inspired him to try to protect others, the figure reveals that he has a true purpose to fulfil. Daniel will become a guardian angel, however there is a catch. He must be willing to sacrifice his own life so that he is no longer bound by mortal laws or physical restrictions.
