Heidi
Based on the classic story by Johanna Spyri. Heidi loves living in the mountains with her grandfather and her friend Peter, and is homesick when she moves to Frankfurt. Will she make it back to her beloved mountains?

My mother got this book from Switzerland for me.I like the part where Heidi finds Snowflake her little goat side-kick and I felt sad for Heidi when she had to leave her grandfather, Peter, Snowflake and Clara.My favourite character is Heidi.

peter pushed the wheelchair down the mountain out of jealousy, and clara could miraculously walk right after. bizarre! it is my first time reading heidi in this ladybird version so i havent read the original one. i find the aunt to be quite a jerk honestly just shovelling heidi wherever and whenever she wants to. could explain the obvious depression heidi was going through. i can’t get on this story.

Young orphaned Heidi moves to the mountains to be with her grandfather. Heidi loves the scenery and the friends she has made with Peter and his grandmother. After winter, Heidi’s Aunt Dete comes back to collect Heidi. This is not received with a positive response as neither Heidi nor her grandfather want her to leave. Nevertheless, Heidi moves to Frankfurt with her Aunt Dete almost hates every moment. Heidi becomes so distraught about living away from her grandfather that she starts to sleep walk. Doctors recommend that Heidi should go back to her grandfather. When Heidi goes back to her grandfathers, she takes her new friend Clara, who is in a wheelchair. After Peter becomes jealous and pushes Clara’s empty wheelchair down the mountain, Clara finally learns to walk for herself.
As part of the ladybird range, this book helps build up the confidence of young children so that they are able to read books for themselves, as the title suggests. This level 4/5 book is aimed at children between the ages of 5-6 who are confident readers, wanting to read a longer story by themselves. The book includes every day words, as well as new vocabulary which is repeated throughout to support the learning of new vocabulary. The book includes a number of spoken sections, used to introduce children to new punctuation. The words and punctuation are supported by illustrations on each page that help the chid to use their imagination to create the full picture.
