Born in Southern Ontario, Aquila was raised on the outskirts of a small town. With nothing to do, she took to reading historical romance novels and vowed to write a book of her own one day. Fast forward 28 years and she did just that with her first Contemporary Romance titled Moonlit Night and a Series to follow. She still lives in that small town where she was born, her escape is within the pages of her writings
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 🌶️ I’ve just finished Salvation which is the 2nd book in the Changing of the Guards series by Aquila Thorne. This book follows Rory & Kat and features characters / the family from the first book Savior.
I really enjoyed this book, I think the plot of the first book was more enjoyable for me personally but I really liked how fierce, independent and strong Kat the FMC was - she is a badass!
I enjoyed this book so much! There are so many ups and downs. Very good plot line! Fantastic, fun characters to keep you going. Strong heroine. Super love story. Yes, I would recommend this book.
Imagine my surprise when I got a phone call demanding to know who TF I am without so much as a hello.
I hung up on the prick. A second later a woman called apologizing for him and to explain that my father was in an accident. Problem is, I've never met the man. Not only do I not know him, but I have a half brother to boot, that is insistent that I come at once. Hopefully the prick isn’t there when I arrive.
That is if I go, I haven’t decided yet.
Rory Hennessy
I've been sour ever since my boss, Declan MacGallan, the Captain of our Clan fell in love and got married.
Not because he got married, but because he’s stepping down to move to the South of France to make wine with his bride. And I’m next in line for Captain. It’s a job I don’t want.
But that all changes when Declan's father has an accident and doctors are threatening to put the old man in a nursing home. We start searching for documents to prove that Declan is Power of Attorney and come across a box.
A box that contains information on a half sister he never knew existed. A half sister that can take over as Captain if her heart desires. All because of the MacGallan blood running in her veins.
I may not want the job, but I sure as hell won’t answer to a woman boss!
“Salvation” is the second instalment in the “Changing of the Guard Series.” The story is a spicy mafia romance with a badass female lead. This book is the story of Rory, Declan’s second in charge, and Kat, the long lost daughter. Even though Rory is not a blood relative, he is the next in line to be Captain of the Clan, until they find out about Kat ….. The chemistry between them sizzles from the start.
“I swallow hard, not because I’m scared. But because of his voice. I just met Rory Hennessy. True to his namesake, he’s a tall glass of yum if I ever did see one. Dark hair, thrown over to the side with a bit of stubble on his chin and a muscle twitching along his jawline. I want to reach out to smooth its dance, but instead I sit there, debating if I should answer him.”
Rory and Kat have a love hate relationship. They are attracted to each other but will not admit it to each other. Mind you, everyone else can …. they are both very like in many ways and extremely stubborn. Will they open their hearts to each other or will they continue to fight against their feelings to each other? To me, this is a love story first, which happens to be set in a mafia family. I was totally engrossed from the start and could not put it down!
A thoroughly enjoyable read from one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. You will fall in love with Rory and Kat, hoping that everything with work out for them and they have a future together. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊
Katrina and Rory hate them each from the beginning and do things just to get a reaction from one another. Kat’s kickboxing career ended when her crazy ex tried to kill her by dragging her body tied to his car and then leaving her on the tracks. A person passing by heard her screens and helped her. Now runs her mother’s bar in Nevada. She receives a phone call from Rory who from the beginning is rude to her so she hung up on him. But right after she gets another call from her sister in-law letting her know her dad is sick. A dad she has not seen and who her mother told her to stay away from because he was a bad man. She also finds out she has a half brother, who wants to step down from running the Irish klan and focus on his new wife. So he needs a new captain to run the family. Rory is supposed to take over but by blood right Kat should be given the choice also. After going on an assignment Rory and her half brother see the footage of how she took the guys that attacked her with her own hands. Kay was supposed to be out of this life and leaving a normal life. After she found out that her grandfather was a human trafficker she wanted nothing to do with klan life. She thought she had killed her grandfather after discovering he was selling kids but it was Rory and Declan who had taken his life. They were drunk since it was their first assignment and didn’t recall everything but they thought Kay had seen them that night. Once they realized she knew nothing about them being there, they told her the truth. As a final test Declan sends Rory and Kat to retrieve a truck of weapons and they are once again attacked. When they realize it was a test to see if they work well together Rory gets upset because Kay was put in danger and Kat decides to go back to Nevada. She wants nothing to do with the family business or running the family. Heart broken because Rory won’t leave w her she decides to leave before he wakes up. She and Rory are miserable being apart but neither one will make the first move and call the other. But when Kat is told that the family was attacked and they don’t know what happened to them she goes back to Canada to find out if everyone is okay. When she gets there she finds Rory working in the garage and learns that it was her brother and sister in law in disguise that told her about the fake attack. She goes back and learns that Rory didn’t take the captain position and wants her to stay as captain and him as second in command to always protect her and keep her away from danger.

Salvation, which is the brilliant second story from the 'Changing of the Guards' series is a book you could pick up and read fairly successfully if not having read the first title, Savior, but my advice would be to start at the beginning to capture the understanding of the characters and overall plot of the series. Honestly I loved the first book such much with its incredibly sexy characters and sense of frivolity that I was so excited to read more and I was so pleased that this book delivered in every possible way. Every character created was equally amazing and what better is to get more from each of them in this second part (can't wait for the third book in the series). The lead female Kat was really quite outstanding in her portrait of a strong and resilient woman but with so many scars of live. I thought it was an extremely well created plot that truly kept my interest from the beginning right to the end, with enough turmoil, action, drama, sexual tensions that really created the right amount of heat to fall in love with the main characters. But I also devoured the sense of humour that was portrayed in the story through simple inclusions and scenarios. Actually one scene in particular really won me over with Killer, the dog. If you enjoy Mafia inspired romances with a possessive Alpha that will protect both his heart and his woman's then give this incredible story a chance. Oh and yes, like many of these darker romances always check Authors lists for triggers to ensure your enjoyment and mental health.
Ms. Thorne, I don't know who I love more. Declan had me in a chokehold but Rory... I can't even put it into words. Rory Hennessy is Declan's second in command. Declan is ready to step down as captain now that he has Wren. Rory is not a blood MacGallan. None of the other family members want to be captain. While looking for some documents, Declan finds out that he has a half sister. A half sister that knows nothing about the family business, but could potentially become captain. Declan and Rory have decided to put Katrina George through the paces if she wants to become captain.
Kat is a former professional kickboxer. She has been through some things and finding out that she has a half brother and a father with dementia is not on her to-do list. Her mother had always told her, her father was not a good man. Kat would rather stay away, but who can resist Wren. The attraction between Rory and Kat was instant, but both fought it with all of their might.
This book takes the similar vein of all of Ms. Thorne's books. Action and adventure with a mystery. Steaminess is a given. The attraction between Rory and Kat is off the charts hot. While Kat is on the journey to become captain, they get to know each other. I loved all of it. Both Rory and Kat are kind of rough around the edges. Will these two figure it out before something separates them forever?
I am so glad I got to be an ARC reader for this series
This is book 2 in the changing of the guard. It's about Katrina and Rory.
Katrina is declans sister whom he just found out about. Rory is declans, right-hand man, who he wants to become captain of the Irish mafia. But since he has a sister, she can take over or would she want to. Time will tell.
Kat and rory do not like each other despite the chemistry between them.
Kat is an ex professional kickboxer. But thanks to a nasty ex, he ruined her career, but she's a freaking bad ass, she runs her mums bar out in the middle of nowhere. She gets a call that changes things, and soon, she's driving to Toronto to meet a brother and her father she never knew about.
Kat was my absolute favorite in this book. She's such a bad ass and knows how to take care of her self she don't need no man, lol.
Rory gives off alpha asshole energy but definitely turns into soft butter when it comes to Kat.
I loved declan and wrens devious little plan at the end of the book, trust them two to pull that off, lol 😆
This book was good, nice, easy paced read. I'm excited for the 3rd book next year
Second book in the Changing of Guard series. Rory Hennessy is second in command to Declan MacGallan (from the book Savior) will be the next Captain because his boss decided to leave the family business. But what they don’t know is that Declan has a half sister. And that’s when Katarina George enters their life. She lives in Nevada, owning a bar that her mother left her after her passing. She met the two men and decided to stay to learn the way of the family business. Rory is not happy and decided to make her life miserable so she leaves… but it’s not always working as smoothly as he wanted…
Again, Aquila Thorne hit it right. And this book is no exception. I loved this story ! Both characters are strong, fierce, stubborn and even if they want to hate each others, they just can’t. I love Katrina character so much! She’s a tough and fierce woman, even Rory is scared of her 😂 And Rory is just there amazes by this woman. This enemy to lovers trope is one of the best I’ve read for a while. Next is Connor and I can’t wait for his story!!!!!
Book 2 of the "Changing of the Guards" series after "Savior", Aquila gives us "Salvation".
I really enjoyed Savior and was excited to see that Salvation was ready to continue the series. I've enjoyed Aquila's writing style when it comes to this delicious mafia-themed romance series. I loved the twist with having Kat be a female lead and the possibility of a female mafia leader. The storyline moved at a good pace, it wasn't too slow and wasn't too fast which made for a great read. She captivated my attention from the very first page, with so many plot twists, action scenes, chemistry, tension and so much more! With all that was packed in, the book didn't feel too busy and was laid out perfectly! Kat and Rory's connection has to be one of my favorites so far, complete opposites with insane chemistry! I can not wait to see where Aquila takes the rest of this series.
This was a quick and kind of fun read. Rory is introduced as the right-hand man of the Irish mob, while Kat is the long-lost daughter of the mob who never knew she had ties to it. Declan, Kat’s half-brother, adds another layer of family intrigue to the story.
At its core, this is a love story between Kat and Rory. They start off on rocky ground, but as they work through different jobs together, their relationship grows. The slow build allows them to understand each other better, eventually leading to love and a happy ending.
The plot itself doesn’t dive too deep—there’s not a lot of complexity or layered twists—but it serves its purpose as a light, entertaining romance with a mob backdrop. Overall, it’s not one for depth, but if you’re looking for a fast, enjoyable read with a mix of family secrets and romance, this one does the trick.
MAKE SURE U READ BOOK ONE SAVIOR 1ST MAKE SURE U READ TWS BEFORE U READ THIS
Katrina is a kickboxer and is gettin out of an abusive relationship with Xavier. But Xavier ruins her career, and now she runs to her mom's bar in the middle of nowhere til she gets a call that changes everything. Kat is Declan's half sister and can take over the Irish Mafia cause Declan wants to step down as a Caption, but since Rory is Declan's right hand, he thought he was gonna take over til Kat. Kat and Rory can't stand each other til they do. Kat is a force to be reckoned with cause she is a bad ace all on her own, but to have Rory with her just wow. They had a funny banner that was cute. I loved Declan's and Wren's story, and I definitely loved Rory and Kat's story. I can't wait to read book 3.
I did not care for Saviorr, so imagine my surprise that I did not take this off my TBR and still chose to read it. I am so glad that I did. This was really good. I don't know if the writing got better between the first book and Salvation or if I just didn't vibe with the characters in the first, but I really enjoyed this.
Kat and Rory were just so great for each other. The banter and fighting were exactly what I was looking for. And Kat held her own in every way, both in conversations and ass kicking. Frankly, she was better than the men in all aspects.
The ending did get a bit goofy. I think I would have preferred something more from Rory. No, I know I would have preferred that. Otherwise, this was an excellent read.
I am so in love with this series. I am a huge fan of mafia but I love the direction this one takes. It’s not as “hard” as some of the others. This one shows a more softer side to the mafia. It throws in some witty banter, some humor, and just some moments. But Rory and Kat were awesome. I loved these two. They went from being strangers, to enemies, to lovers. You’ve got to love the whole opposites attract scenario lol. Especially when Rory finds out he may lose his upcoming position to a woman. And no way is he raging orders from a woman. I lived the tension, the back and forth. This book really pulls you in and keeps you turning the pages. And you most definitely get caught up in all of these guys. I totally love all of the characters. Really looking forward to the next book.
Read as an ARC on BookFunnel. The story of the MacGallan clan continues as Declan, currently the captain wants to step down. This starts a series of events where his second in command, Rory is next to take over until he finds he has a half sister, Kat. As the two strong candidates struggle with the transit process they begin to fall for each other. This book has mire Mob overtones and there are physical challenges for the clan. Will they decide the clan is worth it or will they give each other up, because of the dangers. Love how the characters from book one, are still a primary part of this story, but you can also read as a standalone. Characters exhibit strength, humor and loyalty.
Salvation is book 2 in the Changing Of The Guards series and is Katrina and Rory's story. Katrina George and Rory Hennessey are absolutely like fire and ice! They couldn't possibly be more opposite. Their journey is one intense, scalding HOT, wild ride. Salvation is full of chaos, twists, turns and surprises. Like Savior, this author has brought us another consuming story that pulls you in from the very beginning and holds you captive until the very end. I can't wait for Sanctuary to see where this author takes Connor.
Salvation is book 2 of Aquila Thorne's series Changing of the Guards. Rory is next in line to take over his best friends Mafia. Only they are thrown for a loop when they discover Declan has a sister and that it's her right for a chance to take over the Clan. Kat only goes for the title to upset Rory, but they soon find out that working together makes things heat up between them. Protecting each other at all costs and saying goodbye when it hurts the most. This book is a whirlwind of fear, love, sadness and scheming! Loved this book!
I so love this series it has it all humor twisty hot and addictive read. Kat was a professional kick boxer until something happened to stop her, she runs the bar her mum left her. she never knew her father until the day she gets a phone call from her half-brother Declan. now Rory is not happy she is coming into their lives he Declan's right-hand man. Kat soon finds out they very high up in the mafia and Declan wants to take over. when they see what she can do they in awe of her she one dangerous lady. and a relationship form between her and Rory it's an amazing read so recommend
Aquila Thorne has done it again, and Salvation does not disappoint. This second book in the Changing of the Guards series is full of intrigue, suspense, humor, and romance. Rory misjudged Kat and ended up eating crow more than once in this book. Kat was full of surprises that kept Rory and readers on their toes, waiting to see what she would do next. Their love story is full of ups and downs and multiple roadblocks, but they find their way to each other in the end. Well done Ms. Thorne, well done.
Couldnt put it down once I started reading it. I love Aquilas writing style and her stories pull you in right from the beginning. This one didn't disappoint. This is book 2 in the Changing of the Guard series, you could technically read this without reading book 1 Savior, however I highly suggest starting at book 1 you won't be disappointed reading about Declan and Wren.
This book focuses on the story of Rory and Kat. There are moments you may want to scream or throw something lol but it keeps you going. The possibility of a Female head of mafia is fantastic and made me want to read this book as soon as I finished Savior. If you love a good angst, mafia romance, read this book.
Rory and Kat are the perfect follow up to book 1! Rory is the second in command and Kat is the half sister no one knew existed. They seem like oil & water, but it’s mainly due to the fierce attraction they have towards each other that they don’t want to admit to. It’s a strangers to enemies to lovers relationship. It’s at within a Mafia world, but that isn’t the focus of the story. It is first and foremost a love story. Two strong people with amazing banter and spice. Wonderful character and plot building that I enjoyed every moment of it.
Book 2 in The Changing Guard series, called Salvation was about Rory and Kat. Kat turns out to be Declan’s half sister. A secret daughter that Declan’s father hid for years.
I loved everything about this book. How Kat actually was a kickass woman who had amazing kick boxing skills. How Rory hated but admired her. It’s a he falls first, mafia romance that had equal parts danger & violence, along with a sexy side of love and a few laughs too.
It was the perfect second book that I borrowed from kindle Unlimited. Now onto the next book in the series.
A very unique story that was unlike anything I have ever read before. Kat was such a strong woman, and it was nothing short of a miracle that she survived her initial situation. She is a bar owner, after "retiring" from being a championship boxer, and finds out that she has a brother. She goes to meet him and her father. Enter Rory, which is not a very good beginning for the both of them. The story has a few surprises, angst, danger, compromise, and, fingers crossed, an HEA. This story contains the following:
💕Found Family 😈Enemies to Lovers 🫨Secrets Revealed 💕Maybe
You can definitely say it wasn’t Love at first sight with these two, more like rivals at first sight and second sight. Rory and Kat were quite a pair, nobody really knew how to behave around each other, hate or love, quite funny. Kat was a tough woman, I like., she was no damsel in distress, she knew how to defend herself. Rory and the dog was funny, just an afterthought. All in all it was a good solid story with a lot of action, fun and love and a tough as nails heroine.
A truly epic love story you don't want to miss. Full of edge of your seat suspense and action in the world of organized crime. Katrina discovers her long lost family and walks into much more danger than she bargained for or wanted. Will she stay and fight for, and with them as her family and new love or go back to her old life? This is so good and page turning intense as only Aquila Thorne can do.
I love Rory and Kat! Kat is thrown into a life as has no clue about, the Irish Mafia. Rory is Declan’s right hand man and is set to take over when Declan steps down. However, he’s not sure he wants it until Kat shows up and finds out that technically the leadership can belong to her since she’s Declan’s half sister. The back and forth between Kat and Rory is fun to read and I love that Declan and Wren appear in this story as well. Great book and series!!
Salvation: the act of saving or the state of being saved
I felt this theme resonated throughout the entire book… in subtle ways. It was great to see Declan and Wren again. It was even better because we got to know Rory and Kat through their story. She’s strong and intimidating. He’s dedicated and loyal to the family and strong as well. Their experiences keep you on the edge of your seat - and the heat… spicy, but not too spicy if you know what I mean 😊
I am so in love with this series that I can’t wait for the next one to come out. This story has so many ups and downs that it will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next with Kat and Rory. It’s going to keep you guessing on how their love story is going to end with them together or not. I will definitely say there were a couple of times I wanted to throw my iPad. I loved this story
Loved it. This one was just as good as the first in the series. These are mafia romance books. Salvation is the 2nd in the series and continues on with the characters and adds in new characters. This book also had great banter and I laughed out loud a few times at their conversations. It had action, danger, romance and it kept me reading late into the night. I feel these could easily be stand alone books, but I'd recommend reading Savior (the first book) anyway because it is also so, so good.
Kat’s story blew me away. She’s fierce, resilient, and unstoppable, especially once Rory’s in the mix. Their banter was hilarious, their chemistry electric, and the twists kept me turning pages Kat’s a tough kickboxer escaping an abusive ex, only to discover a family she thought she left behind and the unexpected heir to the Irish Mafia. She and Rory go from enemies to sizzling chemistry, with banter that had me hooked. Cant wait for Book 3!
