Nicely built story in words and images, focusing on explaining the world of an autistic child in a comprehensive and kind way. My only question would be: who is the intended reader?

This would be a teacher's favourite, a pedagogical tool to build bridges, but would an autistic child read it and feel empowered? Would a non-autistic child enjoy it and reach out? I don't know.

Read for my Bachelor thesis about the representation female characters with autism and whether the specific corpus of books promote or counteract ableism.

Review in English, for consistency on Goodreads, but the book was read in Swedish (and my thesis was written in Swedish too). I do hope this book gets translated in more languages as time comes, as I believe it does give a good overview of what a 14 year old girl with autism goes through. However, I believe this book is more targeted to older people and perhaps parents, rather than children themselves. It gives a very pedagogical overview and life story, rather than a fun story you'd read your child before you go to sleep. Informative for sure. Would I read it again? No, I've read it 5 times for my analysis, and I think that's enough. The representation is good though. Sophia's symptoms are diverse and not stereotypical at all. Rose Lagercrantz has Donne a good job describing Sophia and the hardships of her story, however it was a bit too pedagogical for me. The illustrations were wonderful though!
