Beneath The Scrubs #1

Private Practice

Rate this book
Channing isn’t gay. Neither am I.

The reason we’re sleeping together?

It was the stress of those 16-hour shifts, seven days straight that did it.

At the end of the day, we’re both medical professionals. We know how anatomy works and what pent up bodies need. Gender and sexuality don’t really play into the mechanics, so why let it get in the way of available resources?

It’s just a way to feel someone’s touch on your skin. Fall asleep next to something warm. Wake up to something other than a stone cold pillow on the other side of the bed.

Nothing more.

PRIVATE PRACTICE is Book 1 of the Beneath The Scrubs 3-part series.

For more context, check out the series blurb

What do you do when seven years invested into med school feels like an awful mistake and the entire year of residency is a groundhog day of sleepy horror?

When brand new doctor Channing Quinlan can’t take another minute of this hellish existence, he turns to his best friend via proximity, Armin Valencia, to propose a move out to the countryside. What’s not to love about being in the middle of nowhere, population not-a-lot, to do family medicine?

Because rural doctors work nine to five.

Rural doctors get to enjoy the great outdoors on weekends.

Rural doctors make bank and have tons of work life balance.

The only thing these two rural doctors have to worry about is finding girls under the age of 85 to date and have sexy times with.

Until that happens, at least they have each other as convenient, very straight, extra handsome bed warmers.

This arrangement works out amazingly well until Channing invites Armin on a holiday back home to Australia.

All of a sudden, they’re surrounded by an abundance of hot, sun-kissed girls, way too much alcohol, and a language that does a terrible job of pretending to be English, that Armin simply can’t get his head around.

What could possibly go wrong?

I must start off by saying that I am not usually one for first-person POV stories. Having said this, I will genuinely give ANYTHING Dixon writes a go (yeah, she is THAT good), and once again, I was not disappointed in the slightest (and very surprised, because I am really enjoying the POV element!). I am absolutely LOVING this story so far!! It’s something new and different (for me, in terms of the POV), yet you’re still guaranteed all the wonderful, hot, delicious goings-ons that Dixon never fails to provide. I am extremely fond of both Channing and Armin; their dynamic is sweet and sexy, casual yet intense, and honest, with a dash of complicated in the best way. I can’t wait to read the follow-up books and see how their (not) relationship (lol ♥️) develops and what they get up to in Australia... They have great chemistry, and I am rooting for them 🥹 ♥️ So excited!!

Easy read

This book is the first part of Min and Chan's story. We hear how two straight guys find convenience and their needs met. At the end of this book it feels like things are changing. Chan is more needy and Min seems to be pulling back. Can't wait to go to book 2 to see how their relationship progresses.

At first glance this looks like straight guys being gay. Super hot and lots of smut. Keep reading and be surprised at the wholesome, heartfelt, layered story that unfolds. Enjoyed finishing this series and glad I did. I will miss the doctors!

DAMN. OKAY OKAY SO I’m not a huge fan of first person POV, and I’ve read my fair share of 1st and 3rd POV but I’ve always felt like most books are a bit poorly written? Some are really good though, BUT THIS!!!! THIS IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL!!!!!! First few paragraphs in and I was in AWE with how well written this story is. Like it’s so clever and so beautiful and yet easy to read?? I don’t know but the style definitely got me hooked!!!

I’m soooo intrigued by Armin and Channing. I’m really curious on how they’re relationship will develop. In fact, I was supposed to read this book little by little over the weekend but I just couldn’t stop myself and I finished it in no time!

I’m loving the concept, the characters, the style and obviously their story, I cannot wait to read the next book, but before I had to come here and recommend it to everyone who sees this!!

Great little novella with a couple of idiots totally in love but not acknowledging it yet. Loves the golden retriever energy of Channing. Looking forward to reading the rest of the story.

Short but the sex was pretty hot. I loved Channing, he's so absolutely in love without knowing. Not sure if I'll continue the series, not much happened besides cute sexy sex. Like a cozy sexy story? So it wasn't bad, just might not be my full thing.

I find this authors books really engaging and for the life of me I can’t put my finger on why? They are a bit chaotic! What I think it is is that the characters have no clue what they are doing or why so you are genuinely as confused as they are and subsequently go on the journey with them. I really liked this series- it’s so odd it’s interesting and I was inordinately invested.

Interesting fun read- would recommend

It’s fine for what it is. But it wasn’t very clear how established this duo is and I was kind of thrown off that they actually had already gone *full in* intimately for a while now, but it’s only stated in passing. I don’t understand why that couldn’t have been a first for them shown on page when they clearly still have so much to develop into. I’m honestly kind of upset about it idk it seems like a given to allow us to see their physical relationship grow on page alongside their emotional connection :/

3.5 ⭐️

I’ll admit, I kind of have to suspend disbelief when reading this. You’re telling me these two “straight” men have been having sex for a year and still believe they are straight?
The way they shamelessly enjoy each other’s bodies? And how affectionate they are? There’s no way in hell they could believe they aren’t at least bisexual, like be so for real right now…

I can’t decide if they are just idiots or have internal homophobia.

Okay so all that being said, the spice is HOT AS HELL!!! I love the way this author writes spice! It feels authentic and natural.
I can’t wait to continue the series!!!!

Straight guys who are just dudes being bros, even after two years in the bedroom. It's not gay if we keep our socks on. Favorite! Well written, super steamy.

Loved it!
Some of the scenes were written with extra care to their profession which was extra hot.
Worth a read if you want something quick and fun! :>
