I read the book and am still listening to the night-time audio this book comes with. The book itself felt very repetitive in many ways, saying the same things over and over again, and each chapter then tried to explore something new about improving sleep and relationship to sleeping or expectations of it. I picked this book mostly because I never feel refreshed after sleeping, and could definitely do with better quality sleep overall, but so far, I haven't noticed much of a difference. I do fall asleep most times before the end of the 20-something minute audio, but having now reached week 3, I feel they are all the same so far. Why have a separate one every week just to have the first sentence of the audio change to tell you which week it is? I am not sure. If by the end of the 8 weeks I feel a significant change, I will update my rating again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This recently released book is the third book written by Fiona Brennan, Irish Lifestyle Coach, speaker, hypnotherapist and author. As someone who has had difficulty with sleep all my adult life, I was really interested to see what this book had to offer.

The book is very clearly laid out and is meant to be read in conjunction with a programme of ‘Sleep Well’ audios, available on The Positive Habit website. I didn’t follow this programme but I did listen to some of the audios over the past week and sometimes listen to The Positive Habit sleep time hypnotherapy audio which I do find helpful and will often fall asleep to.

This book goes through 8 sleep habits which, if you prioritise, will over time improve your sleep. While these habits (for example, sleeping and waking at roughly the same time; limiting caffeine and alcohol consumption) are nothing new, it was nice to hear how small changes can be effective and I did take some valuable ideas from them. One example is in relation to phases of sleep and how our bodies naturally experience lighter phases of sleep which is still sleep, deeply relaxing and restorative. My tendency is to call it a night on sleep once I am only just conscious.

I loved the part on the 3 P’s: presence, patience and peace and how nurturing these qualities in ourselves every day, naturally disposes us to better sleep. One conscious breath…how is it that I need so many reminders of this? But I do! And the story about the kind and patient cab driver who brought joy to an old lady on her final days was a beautiful reminder of what is important.

This book is grounded in science, and backed up by research but for me, it is the stories, and the author’s own experience / voice that were most impactful. I have no doubt that by going through the programme as one is meant to would greatly improve anyone’s sleep and I can say that the sleep audio from the positive habit has definitely helped me fall asleep. My greatest take-away/aspiration is to embrace the lighter phase of sleep when it comes with patience; to rest in peace and wake in joy.

I think everyone would get something valuable from this book.

Heavy on the sleep. Also heavy on the ads for the authors other sources.
