Oskar and Daphne are INCREDIBLE!!! I have enjoyed my time in the world that Lydia Kendall has written. I wish I could live there as well.
The characters are well written and descriptive but not overly so. Their personalities shine in the words of the author and paint a clear picture in this reader’s mind.
I look forward to the next one!
Lydia Kendall thank you so much for all your words and for giving me a world where I can “wander off too”!!
Oh, my I have read a lot of Lydia’s stories and loved most of them. I now think this is my favorite. Oskar and Daphne both have many secrets and pain to overcome. Daphne was kidnapped and held hostage by a rich, powerful Marquess. The Marquess of Huston, her father owed him money and he took her for payment. He is an evil; nasty person enjoying others' pain. All Daphne can hope for is a miracle and that she can escape. On the day of their wedding there is a large group of Highlanders who attacked, and she can run away. Unfortunately, she runs into none other than the Laird of the Highlanders! Laird Oskar is on a mission to save the honor of his clan and sister. While he was away for a year fighting his sister, Skye was taken advantage of by the Marquess. He was shocked to find her with a baby, his nephew. Now he is out for revenge. When he sees a woman running for the forest in a wedding dress. What better way to get even with the Marquess then to kidnap his bride. Neither could guess what was in store for them. There is so much misunderstanding between Oskar and Daphne. As they spend time together both will learn and see things differently. Neither is prepared for the feeling they have. There is so much emotion and passion in this story. There are lots of twists and turns along the way. Will pride and hurt feelings end their story before it begins? You need to grab this story and a cup of tea and get started on the road of a lifetime, it's wonderful. You will have highs and lows along with tears and cheers too. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
When Oskar returned home from a year of fighting in clan wars, and learned that his sister Skye had been violated by an English nobleman and left with child, he swore vengeance for his sister’s and his family’s honor. On the day of his attack, Oskar encountered a lovely lady wearing a wedding dress fleeing through the woods. Deciding thar stealing this man’s bride on his wedding day would add salt to the wound, Oskar and his men road off with Daphne in tow. Fast forward and after a mad dash to make it to his Highland castle with his traumatized and combative captive, Oskar deposits Daphne with his mother and sister, hoping that she will heal both physically and emotionally. While waiting for William, the Marquess of Huston, to come fetch his betrothed, Oskar and Daphne establish a precarious relationship, and he is enraged to hear the particulars of Daphne’s treatment at William’s hands. When the time of confrontation arrives, all players are present and the battle is vicious and bloody. This story will ignite your ire and break your heart, all while you are rooting for Daphne and Oskar to have a happy ending. The characters are intense, each in their own way, and the horrors perpetrated by William just boggled my mind. This story is well written, fast paced, emotionally challenging, and has several steamy and endearing moments. Well worth your time!
Laird Oskar is seeking revenge against an English Marquess for taking advantage of his sister and leaving her pregnant. When Oskar arrives with his men at the home of the Marquess, he finds the Marquess gone and an English beauty fleeing the home and soon realizes she has been held captive by the Marquess. Daphne is betrothed to the Marquess against her will to settle her father’s debts. Oskar decides to take her back to the Highlands with him to lure the Marquess out so he can kill him. The Marquess is the definition of evil. I loved the way the love story between Oskar and Daphne unfolded. Still there were obstacles to overcome. The Marquess did not give up easily.
DNF because of the silly Daphne. The story was promising with interesting characters, dialogue and dilemma. The story blurb says this is steamy (it's not very) and she flees the Marquess to fall into a more dangerous villain (he's not). There is good action in the beginning but the pace slows down in the middle as Oskar is confounded by his feelings for Daphne, and Daphne sees no way out of her dilemma with the sadistic Marquess. There is little English and Scottish history, not really enough to claim this a medieval romance. But the final straw for me was Daphne getting all mad when Oskar saves her and Skye from the evil Marquess because her father got hurt. The story has too many lazy spelling and grammar mistakes.
I just loved reading this one. So many good characters and I loved the storyline so much. The Marquess got what he so richly deserved!!! As did Green!! I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’ll just say that Oskar, Daphne, Skye, Moira, Theodore made a beautiful family. I’m glad Evan was there as well. Not a boring page in the book. Can’t wait to read what comes next from Lydia. Now to Juliana’s newest book “Stealing the Highlander’s Bride“ 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
If excitement and adventure are what you like in a romance then you will like this one! Knowing about the little a woman’s life was treasured in long ago times, this story puts in mind how some could have been and vividly. The characters are well developed to help with your imagination to see the predicaments that our lead lady has to deal with. Ever a dull moment!
Laird Oskar was looking to defeat his enemy by taking the lass he was to marry. Lady Daphne was looking for a way to get away from the cruel villain she was to marry. Their meeting was nothing they expected but Laird Oskar vowed he would protect her no matter what. Will their union lead them along the path to a happily ever after. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
My favorite Lydia Kendall read yet. Story and characters are well developed, and relationship is not rushed like in many romance novels. The story contains plenty of adventure, Scottish accents, secrets, redemption, and love. Would recommend to any who love a good highland romance.
This is a well written Scottish Highland romance with strong characters in Kate and Wolfe. It's a steamy second chance romance with a fun banter. The author does a great job developing the story and delivers a terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
The story was a good story that had it all, adventure, romance, evil villain but terrible editing. The spelling and grammar definitely detracted from the story. In some cases it was difficult to understand, a rereading of some sentences was necessary to understand what was happening.
Book well written to keep readers interest. She is kidnapped by an evil Lord and betrothed to him who keeps her prisoner and delights in torturing her. She escapes on wedding day when his home is attacked. She escapes only to be captured by an Scot Laird who plans on using her for bait to draw out the Lord so he may get revenge.
I really like reading Ms Kendall’s books !! I noticed a few errors like word instead of world, him instead of her, but these can be easily overlooked, just for the enjoyment of this book.
Such a great read, a very steamy page turner for sure. Couldn’t put the book down, yes, it was that good. The way I see it if you intend to not read then shame on you. It’s worth every word.
Who isn't going fall for a gorgeous highlander wth muscles that will make you drool! First, the covert art drew me in and then the characters and creative dialogue between them held me entranced until the end! 😍
This was a fantastic story. I enjoyed the banter between Oskar and Daphne. The story line was very interesting and entertaining. It was hard to put down.
Read on Kindle Unlimited - there were a lot of grammar/editing mistakes (which drives me bonkers). I almost gave it two stars, but the story wasn't worth that.
I really enjoyed this book, it is exciting, sexy and romantic. All the characters are so well written that you can’t help but like them, or loathe them, depending on the parts they play. A great read.
I find these books somewhat entertaining, however they don't feel like medieval romance novels. The story line is there, but the interactions and behavior between the characters is more of a contemporary romance.
Not bad but I just wasn’t interested. I have read so many books with the exact same storyline of H kidnapping his enemy’s bride or daughter (mostly old skool) that this was pale in comparison to them. The old skool books have different space in my heart. These new books don’t have that feel.

Oskar was a Laird and was on his errand to kill an English lord for defiling his sister. Upon arrival he caught a lady in a wedding dress escaping in the woods. His thoughts were that he would get the girl to draw out that mangy English Lord…
Excellent story of fear and mistrust by Daphne as she dealt with a bad father and nastier betrothed. Once Laird Oskar rescues and must keep her safe, feelings come into play. This whole book heals hearts. Loved it
Sold out buy her father’s debts to a wicked and abusive Marquis, Daphne disparately tries to escape. Skye, taken advantage of by the same Marquess, is avenged by her brother. All these lives intertwine to create a very intriguing story.
Daphne & Oskar An unlikely love match between a laird that wanted vengeance and an english woman trying to escape her cruel betrothed. I enjoyed this story.
Experimental read for me in this specific subgenre of "historical" romance. I can understand why some may like it but I have confirmation it's not for me.
The story of Oskar and Daphne an (English lass) had a lot of suspense , surprises, and a cruel Marquess. I enjoyed the banter between Oskar and Daphne. A must read.
