This is a thorough account of Mynydd Parys in Anglesey, written topic by topic, concerning this fascinating, but brief, moment in history.
Between 1810 and 1835 this small area was the pre-eminent copper mine in Europe, and central to the success of the British navy, empire and commerce. The local town of Amlwch was a Wild West boom town. And then it rapidly declined. Its peak coincides with the years of the Prince Regent and Jane Austen - although you'd never know it from mainstream history.
The book is easy to read, the information is well researched and presented, and the prose is very straightforward. The story itself is remarkable, and needs no embellishment.
