This is a book about a child whose parents have broken up and he is struggling to cope with it. The book is great for showing the child to be confused and that is okay to be like that. The child stays with his dad and slowly starts to get used to the new way his life will be. The illustrations show the colours and and vibrancy of the environment and really compliment the book. It would be good for a child to read if their parents have just split as it could be something that they relate to.
Good stimulus for discussion on topics that could range from relationships, family life, alternative ways of life et. cetera.
I encountered this book in an RWI class with year 2 children. Though they were able to decode and answer the comprehension questions, I think this book is better suited to year three children and older. The issues covered demand some thoughtfulness and maturity. Depends on the group I suppose.
