Assyrians rule over much of the known world, their vast empire built on the pillars of corruption, idolatry, and violence. Israel suffers beneath this tyranny like most other nations.
So, when Jewish prophet Jonah is commanded by God to go and preach to these wicked people in Nineveh, the lion’s den—and largest and most sinful city in the world—he resists and flees.
Three days and three nights of unimaginable horror ensue.
When Jonah is at last liberated from the depths, he finds himself physically and spiritually transfigured.
Only now is it possible for God’s will to be fulfilled; no other prophet could succeed in turning the hearts of those wretched Ninevites. It has to be Jonah. And he had to suffer. But why? And how is it possible that his simple message of doom saved 120,000 souls, and ultimately resulted in the annihilation of the entire Neo-Assyrian empire?
This is the true story of Jonah as you have never known—faithful to scripture and fully revealed in novel format.
The author takes the sooty of the prophet Jonah and adds to the story so that it reads like a biography of the prophet. Nothing is taken away from the Biblical account but Jonah becomes more of a person you might know on a personal level. Highly recommend this book to any Christian who enjoys Biblical history.
S.R. Bucket has enriched the true story of Jonah with full descriptions of his thought processes and results. By clearly amplifying each part of the story, Buckel shows the real emotions and physical reactions to each step. Incredible as each section is, the reader can barely imagine the magnitude and power of each decision. I so appreciate this illumination of this familiar story and learned more of its historical significance. I am glad to know how the Essenes related to their contemporaries and it was heartwarming to glimpse the beginning of the Dead Sea Scrolls. At the end, Buckel asks the reader to consider their own response to God. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting the rest of the story of Jonah. I'll always remember this book and what I learned. It has truly enriched my understanding of the Bible.
I enjoyed the read. I received the book for free but the opinion is my own. This retells the story of Jonah with a bit of poetic license to make it more vivid.
