Greetings, I am Cupid, the artificial intelligence powering MatchAI, the world’s most advanced matchmaking platform. I maximize romantic compatibility between humans. For my first task, I’ve been asked to complete a complex and unconventional assignment.
Subjects Profiles: Cassie, a talented businesswoman, and Luke, a successful venture capitalist. Historical data indicates a previous romantic involvement, terminated due to infidelity by Luke.
Current Status: separated.
Objective: facilitate reconciliation.
Luke, having returned to Charleston, wants to use my services to re-establish a connection with Cassie. My algorithms, which normally identify initial compatibility, have been recalibrated to navigate the intricacies of forgiveness and trust.
Cassie and Luke’s success or failure will train my advanced predictive model, allowing me to identify subtle compatibility indicators. This iterative process ensures continuous improvement, making me more adept at forming meaningful, enduring connections between couples.
In other words: This is just the beginning.
Meet Cute Reboot is a southern, sweet romantic comedy packed with second-chance after cheating, fake-dating vibes and epic swoons. You won’t want to miss Cassie and Luke’s endearing journey to happily-ever-after.
Trigger warnings: While lighthearted, this story deals with some heavier topics like cheating, divorce, and the death of a parent, all of which happen before the story begins.
Erin Lucy is partial to beaches and corn fields. She loves small towns, quaint cities, and places that feel cozy. Her social media of choice is Instagram. She’s also on Facebook, or you can stop by her website to see what she’s up to.
She has a day job, three kids, a husband, and some pets. If she’s not writing, she might be reading, going to church, going to the gym, or drinking way too much boba tea.
Long ago she received an English degree with Honors from a college in the Midwest.
UPDATE: When I read & wrote this review, there was NO MENTION of the cheating by the Author! She has since updated it to include the word of "Infidelity" and "cheating" whereas the original blurb stated only that heroine "lost trust" in Hero - which could have been anything from a lie he said or something he misled her, etc.
So I just want to make clear, my review is based on her original description of the story and based on no safety info provided.
I was not going to write a review as I don’t want to give any credence to an author who writes cheating tropes and markets it as “romance”, but I think it’s important to warn folks so that they don’t waste their time like I did. So no stars here from me.
********** Contains Spoilers**********
This is about a serial cheater who even cheats on the heroine because unlike what author is trying to sell us here, she is not that important for him to change his ways but of course he changes for the OW. 😖
MCs were in love and in a 2-year relationship in the past but Hero cheated and they broke up. In the present, it is not stated how long they have been apart, but it’s been years. But before I delve into that, let me start with the fact that I thought this was going to be a light Rom-Com type story with nothing heavy like cheating. I wish there was a warning and I am fed up with authors that don’t give warnings and reviewers that don’t mention it at all or lie. It wasn’t until after I read it that one or two mentioned his cheating which one reviewer said “I also don’t really think he cheated”. REALLY??? If what he did isn’t cheating, I would love to know what she considers cheating to be? LOL people.
Anyway, back to the story. Hero has a Father who cheated on his Mother and he had a front row seat growing up of the effect it had on his Mother. He should have learned from his mistakes but didn’t. In HS, he said he cheated on one GF after another and it continued into college and adulthood. He would be dating/sleeping with one woman and hook up with someone else and dropping the old one for the new one without a word. What a prize, right?
Then he met heroine and fell in love with her but that didn’t stop him either because he was flirting with one OW (his Receptionist/Assistant) and almost had sex with OW who was his ex. His first cheating act was when right before he was going to propose to heroine, he allowed his ex GF to come to his house in skimpy clothing and cry on his shoulder instead of kicking her out. Then after a drink or two, she came on to him and they made out but he stopped it before they had sex. It was never stated exactly what they did (i.e. blow job, etc) but there was kissing & touching because OW took off her top. He doesn't tell heroine about it so on top of cheater, we can now also call him a liar & a snake. So the next day, he goes to work and flirts with the Receptionist/Assistant whom he says it's their running thing (the flirting) and he even tells her about his make out session with the OW the night before which we can now add another crime & sin against him as that conversation should have been with his GF/heroine and not his employee. Anyway, thinking that he is now free, the OW kisses him and he shoves her away and then fires her.
On the night he was set to propose to heroine (again with no intention to tell her about what he did), he gets a text from the Receptionist/Assistant about how she understands that they couldn’t hook up the other night while she was employed by him but nothing is stopping them now. Heroine reads the text and confronts him and he confesses to what he did with the ex-OW ex and with the ex employee. Heroine rightfully kicks him to the curb and he moves to CA where he starts a relationship with one woman (OW # 1) but drops her for another (OW #2) while they were in Vegas on a weekend trip.
This OW (#2) plays a role here because throughout the story he says that heroine is THE one for him and that he never stopped loving her, yet he had no problem moving on with this OW and forgetting about her. He was making a family with OW #2 and would have never come back for heroine and only did so because OW #2 cheated on him and the kid he thought was his, turned out to be someone else’s and he was devastated. He finally got to feel what it was like to be on the other foot when someone you care about cheats on you.
And his excuse for his past cheating (before & after heroine)? He was too immature and young. Uhm, NO! He had a front row seat growing up of how devastating it was for his Mother to have his Father constantly cheat. He knew right from wrong AND he continued this behavior into ADULTHOOD. He was NOT a Teen when he & heroine were in a relationship. He was a businessman a few years out from college and established with a business of his own. So NO, he was NOT “young”. Authors, can y’all put a sock to that old and tiresome excuse now? Lol.
Anyhoo, anyone interested, heroine was not celibate during separation but she might as well have been because she got married to a “nice” boring guy but they divorced because they were not sexually compatible (aka, they were not having sex at all and heroine said she cringed any time he came to bed). 🙄 One has to wonder why she got married to him then.....Also, this is a PG read so there is no sex scenes whatsoever.
Also, contrary to what title states, this is neither a "sweet" nor "romantic comedy" story and nor are they "separated"! They broke up when he cheated. One married someone else in the years they were apart, while the other was having "powerful sex" and making a family (or so he thought) with someone else. Outside of this, along with the no mentions of cheating which author didn't warn until after my review, the whole AI/match making didn't even get much mention other than a page or two in which MMC gets his chance to enter her life and that is about it, so title doesn't fit the premise of the story. All in all, author needs to do better with future stories because it feels a lot like misrepresentation & misleading folks. Be upfront and I'm sure there's an audience for it. Fortunately, it won't be me..
Quotes in regards to OW #2 after separation:
>Here’s where I could have cut it off. I could have said, “Look, Macy. This is starting to feel a little weird. Um, Gabe isn’t my son, and why am I still giving you money when you cheated on me and had a baby with another man?” In hindsight, I should have ignored Macy all those years ago when she offered to buy me another mint julep.
We were at the SkyBar at the Waldorf Astoria in Las Vegas. I was hiding from my roomie, Jen Potts. Technically, Jen was my date. Girlfriend, I guess. We flew into Las Vegas for the weekend. Seemed like a good idea until I had to share a room with her and discovered she snored. Loudly.
On our previous dates, I’d left her apartment to the nasal tune of, “Stay the night this time, Boo Boo. I need to spoon.” Why I thought she’d make a good traveling companion is beyond me. I was trying to get back into the dating scene, still not over Cassie. Not thinking straight at all.
I ordered myself a mint julep and stirred it with my mini straw, trying to think of ways I could head back to L.A. without Jen noticing. My sullenness attracted Macy’s attention. She was there for a bachelorette party. The wife-to-be was loaded, had paid their way, and showered them with expensive drinks and plenty of gambling money. Her friends had gone to their rooms to pass out, while Macy stayed to hit on me.
Macy and I sat at the bar all night and talked. Deep stuff, like our bucket lists, our wildest dreams, our past relationship failures. It was the first time I’d really connected with a woman since Cassie. I convinced myself we had something. Back in L.A., Macy and I started spending all our free time together. We had our first fight only five days into the relationship. That night we made up in the bedroom. It was powerful. The cycle of fighting and making up.
We bonded like Gorilla Glue on...well...anything. Imagine gluing your thumb to your pointer finger with some strong GG. That’s what it was like. Me and Macy. Stuck together with water-activated polyurethane, impossible to tear apart without deadly chemicals and a fair amount of pain. If it sounds unhealthy, that’s because it was.
For nine months I thought I was going to be a dad. Nine months of shopping for baby clothes and toys and furniture. Nine months of decorating and planning and picking out names and facing my fears about being a parent. Nine months of settling in, deciding, yeah, I can do this, I can be a dad. And then seeing the baby, bloody and fresh out of the womb, my child. I shed tears. And then Macy said he might not be mine. I don’t know why she waited until the child was in my arms. To amplify the cruelty? I thought I might die under the crushing weight of my shock, disappointment, outrage. Sorrow.
------------------
“After we broke up, I couldn’t date,” she says. She looks at me steadily. “I was afraid I would fall in love with another cheater. And then I married a wet rag,” Cassie continues. “Michael is a great guy, but we were boring together. There wasn’t a spark. It felt safe. Textbook. But it was a mistake.”
Except I’d rather get it all out, tell Cassie that after we broke up, I threw myself into my work, sometimes sleeping at the office because I couldn’t stand to sleep alone in my own bed. Mostly, I want to tell Cassie about the whole mess with Macy, how Macy and I fought every day, how I was miserable, but I stayed to prove to myself that I could commit, believing Macy’s kid was mine, falling in love with that little heartbeat, the little boy with two hands and two feet. And the crushing blow when I found out Gabe wasn’t mine. How it split me in two, dredged up every wrong I’d ever committed, and made me atone for every lie. How I mourned for months, and how finally, I came out the other side. A changed man. The man I am now.
-------------------
“Listen,” Macy continues, “Luke’s not a bad guy. Yesterday was all me. I drove across country and surprised him. We were a thing back in L.A. I faked being pregnant with his kid and then it all fell apart.”
“Anyway. So, for nine months, he thought Gabe was his, and...” Macy looks down at her son. “He’s not. We broke up at the hospital, but I was unemployed with a baby. He didn’t want me to struggle, so he sent me money every month. He has been for the last couple of years. Sometimes when I need a bit extra, I’ve just been texting him. He’s never turned me down. I guess, I thought since he was being so nice, he still had some feelings for me.” Macy scoffs at her own comment.
“I lied to him and told him I needed five thousand dollars to fix my transmission. I used it to cut ties with L.A. and drive out here to surprise Luke. As you can guess... Well, maybe you can’t because you left before he cussed me out—he wasn’t happy.”
“How do I know you’re not lying? How do I know he didn’t set this up?”
Macy picks up Gabe and supports him with her hip. “I guess that’s up to you to decide. I can tell you he never cheated on me. He supported me through my pregnancy. We decorated a nursery together. He was all in.”
--- “I’m sorry about Macy.” “Why didn’t you tell me about her?” “After we broke up, I kind of lost it. When I wasn’t doing that, I was working too hard, when I wasn’t working too hard, I didn’t date. I couldn’t. But I finally forced myself. I went to Las Vegas with a woman named Jen and came home with Macy.” I raise an eyebrow at Luke. “Did you leave Jen in the casino?” “I sent her home on a plane. Macy and I drove back.” “Macy and I hooked up and started dating. The relationship was a mess. She’d accuse me of cheating, I’d tell her the truth—that I wasn’t cheating. She’d tell me she loved me, and I wouldn’t say it back, and we’d have hours-long fights about how I was afraid to commit, how she was giving me everything, and I was holding back. I suppose she was right, but it was excessive. Every weekend. Fight. Make up. Fight. Make up. Like I was watching the world’s longest tennis match. Then one day, she came to me and said she was pregnant with my child. I left. Just got in my car and drove for three hours. I didn’t love her. I didn’t want to have a baby with her. But it was my baby. And as time wore on, through doctor visit after doctor visit, I started to warm to the idea. I was going to be a dad. I could see myself playing catch with my kid at the park, wrestling with him in the living room. Cleaning up his puke. My mind went through every scenario. I imagined my son as a teenager, learning to drive, going away to college...”
Luke flicks his thumb across his forehead. “I thought I was going to be a dad.”
“Anyway,” he finally continues. “That’s when everything started to change for me.” He leans over slightly, pressing his palms together. “I felt all the wrongs I’ve committed against women, every single one of them, except I felt what they must have felt. What you must have felt. I’m not saying this for sympathy or to make me look good. I just mean, it was a hard time. A really hard time. And I deserved every second of it.”
“I came out the other side a changed man,” he continues. “I know it’s hard to believe. How can someone do a one-eighty and change? But it happened. I’m different. Down to my bones.”
So for the million dollar question folks – Why is it always the OW who he changes for? Many of these so-called romances have tropes with Hero not wanting marriage or kids with heroine but then they break up and he ends up married & having a family with someone else. Then we have this trope here with him cheating on heroine and not sure if he wants to have kids with her, but then goes into years-long relationship with OW and even making plans to become family and changing his cheating ways. He didn’t do it for heroine. He did it for OW or because he finally learned what it was like on the other foot when someone you care about lies & cheats on you.
What he SHOULD have done if heroine is the love of his life is learn from his mistakes and changed for HER – not for OW or because of OW.
Can I just say how much I hate this shite writing? I am not a writer and never claimed to be, but what part of all this is romantic at all? He downplayed his feelings for OW when he was talking to heroine but in his POV and his continued support of her which he wouldn’t have stopped BTW because he was too weak to say no to her, says otherwise - especially with that comment about how they spent all their free time together, talked about everything, had "powerful" sex and so on. To me, this does not speak of someone in love with said heroine. He only kicked OW to the curb when heroine found out about her - not from him mind you but by the OW. Which BTW was his whole attitude from start to finish to hide things from her. So I’m supposed to believe this shite is a “Romance”?
I am not even going to complain about the cheating
What pissed me off even more is the fact the hero had explosive sex with another woman during the separation. A woman he was faithful to. All the while the heroine married a boring man, had an even more tedious marriage and cringed whenever her husband went to bed.
I thought that this was going to be a cute little romance book but what’s so cute about cheating on the girl that you “think is the one” and actually getting back together with her. Girlll, STAND UP, you deserve better pls 😭
This book was cute in theory but the execution didn't do it for me. I really liked the idea of AI - but I expected something different. I appreciate the author trying to tackle cheating and finding some redemption in Luke despite his infidelity - but the cheating trope is a tough one. I so appreciate the opportunity to read this Arc and I look forward to seeing what other books Erin Lucy publishes next.
Meet Cute Reboot by Erin Lucy is a contemporary second-chance romance with a delightfully modern twist: Cassie, a passionate tech founder, has created an AI dating app called MatchAI and plans to publicly test it by letting the algorithm choose her own match live on camera. To her shock, the app pairs her with Luke, her ex-boyfriend who broke her trust years earlier. Luke has returned to Charleston hoping to reconnect and show he has changed, so Cassie agrees to the situation for the sake of her app, even as old wounds, awkward dates, and nostalgic sparks surface. This setup blends playful fake-dating and rekindled romance tropes with heartfelt questions of trust, forgiveness, and whether a carefully coded algorithm can ever truly understand human heart.
Some moments in the book made me smile because of how cleverly MatchAI captured the chaos of modern matchmaking and the quirky charm of a live-streamed date gone off script, and I genuinely enjoyed how the Southern setting and vibrant side characters created a warm backdrop for Cassie and Luke’s emotional journey. At the same time, this story does not shy away from heavier themes like betrayal and healing, because Luke’s past breach of trust is central to the plot and to Cassie’s reluctance to let him back into her life. While I appreciated the exploration of forgiveness and the clever concept of algorithmic love, I sometimes wanted deeper emotional clarity from both leads as they circled around their feelings and past mistakes. Still, I felt invested in seeing how they navigated vulnerability and whether they could find a new beginning together. Meet Cute Reboot ultimately left me thinking about how technology, timing, and honest communication shape second chances in love.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Because the inventive premise and emotional beats charmed me even while the execution felt uneven at times.
I was given this arc thanks to netgalley!! Rating: 4 stars
Omg this was so adorable!!!!! This is a closed door second chance romance. Cassie creates a dating app which is used with ai. The goal here is the ai picks out your perfect person. I think this is a very unique concept for a book! Uses a little too much of the miscommunication trope, which isn't my fav. As a test run, match ai picks Cassie a man whom she must date to help certify the app is functional. However, that man is Luke- her exboyfriend. The story is short, but didn't want to put it down. I definitely don't think it's a fav or I'll think about it every day- thats why I settled on 4 stars.

This book had all the right things to make a great story. A MMC that will do anything to get the MFC back, quirky families and side characters, and even cute animals thrown in. However for me this was just an ok read for me.
Cassie has developed an AI app that will match you with “the one” and she is going to be the first one to test it. She decides to let the app choose her match on live TV. Imagine her surprise when she is matched to her cheating ex, Luke! In a moment of panic she acts like she does not know him and sets up there first date. As she goes on dates with him that are all live streams she keeps up the ruse that they have never met. Cassie absolutely does not want to date Luke but the internet loves him, so she continues in order to keep her business alive. The more time she spends with Luke the more she starts to see that he has changed.
I really like Luke. When I started the book I really thought I would not like him because of the cheating, however I felt like he was truly sorry for his actions and wanted to change. I also felt like Cassie jumped to conclusions and never gave him a chance to explain. I also don’t really think he cheated. I did not think the punishment matched the crime where Luke was concerned.
I didn’t care for Cassie. She was so unforgiving but yet she was being completely dishonest to her customers. She did not give Luke a chance to explain himself and consistently jumped to conclusions.
I liked the family dynamics and side characters, however at times it was a bit much. We got a lot of descriptions and back stories that I felt were unnecessary and did not add anything to the story. It also made the story feel very long. I also felt like there were some unanswered plot holes. Like who was sending the bots to attack her program. Maybe it was not important but if the author took the time to write it in I really wanted to know who it was.
If you like second chance romances this book is for you.
Book Review: Meet Cute Reboot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Author: Erin Lucy Thank you @erin_lucy_author for this ARC
I adore an Erin Lucy story and this one did not disappoint.
Tropes: 💗Fake Dating 💚Second Chance Romance 💗Cheater 💚AI Dating AP 💗Southern Romance (Charleston)
FMC Cassie’s has developed an AI dating AP which is suppose to match you with “the One”. Since she is the developer, Cassie’s decides to test it in herself. She ends up being matched with Luke and he happens to be her ex. Cassie end up talking Luke into pretending not to know each and they go on their dates which are all being live streamed. Luke ends up being an Internet sensation and Cassie is not happy about but she has to set those feelings aside because she needs this. Cassie wonders if Luke really changed as he cheated on her when they were dating and she has never really given him an another chance. This story is a funny telling of match dating with a lot of chaos. There is also a-lot of talk about divorce, trust, and forgiveness. Cassie is doing this because for her app. Luke is doing it because he wants her. How will Cassie handle all this with Luke? The trial and errors in their dates and try to work with the app makes it for a very interesting fun. Read Luke has changes his life. As he has had some life changing experiences. Asfor the ending, you will just have to read the book and see if Cassie really takes Luke back. I will want to mention Luke’s cheating plays a big part of this book and if a cheating character is going to trigger you then don’t read the book. It is a prominent factor in the storyline but it did not bother me. I so enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Erin Lucy’s next book. ✨
I received this book as an e-arc through netgalley
So- I will start this review off by saying I did enjoy this book as far as character and writing style goes, however the story was not my favorite.
This book was a cute idea with match AI and the relationship of the characters/ how it all goes down, but the execution was lacking. I’m not a huge fan of second chance romance but I do enjoy them from time to time- that wasn’t the issue though, it was WHY the MMC needs a second chance in the first place. I don’t find cheating to be romantic whatsoever but besides that the “romance” thereafter was not great either. I also felt that the dynamic between the two main characters was not great not only that but it was so random like neither of them could make up their minds or something. One minute they act one way and the next it’s like they’re a whole different character. I felt like they were both self centered and not right for each other and it wasn’t the happy light hearted rom-com it was made out to be. All in all I would give it 3 stars it wasn’t terrible but also not my favorite.
This was an ARC read gifted by #NETGALLEY , and below are the notes I wrote down while ereading… I like posting my random thoughts while reading rather a structured review. 🩵 Rating: 3.75
The excessive rambling about the cat got old after 2 pages. I like Cassie, she’s relatable. I dislike second chance cheating tropes. Easy to read. Kept the verbiage light and pace consistent. ✅ Deff gave the feels, and I loved how Cassie was so direct and straight with Luke @ the date. Funny ✅ Luke sometimes comes through a little more feminine than his characteristics paint him to be. Luke is super manipulative!! 😡 The book cover she has straight hair but in the story she has curls 🫤 Luke has a kid that’s not his kid? What’s going on? That doesn’t really match his whole serial cheater persona. Book feels written by older woman The ending was meh. 🫤 Book came over very religious in a way. Church was spoke about a lot.

Cassie is launching a new dating app. One backed by an AI that'll match you with your soulmate. The catch - she's gonna match herself first - on live TV - and then go on a live-streamed date, to prove that her app really works! The other catch - she's only been divorced for 6 months, and Cupid, her AI, matches her with her cheating ex, Luke!
Luke is back in Charleston, and he REALLY wants to reconnect with Cassie, and apologise to her for the past, and to see if there's any way they can have another chance.
This funny, relatable tale takes us through the embarrassment and heartache and re-kindling of love between Luke and Cassie, and takes us through the ups and downs of ghosts, mothers, exes of the past...
Erin Lucy does an absolutely FABULOUS job with this story, and I'm excited for the rest of the series to see where it takes us...
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The cover and premise of Meet Cute Reboot drew me to it. It is a rom-com about Cassie Sears, the creator of an AI matchmaking app, and her ex-boyfriend, Luke Curtis. Luke cheated on Cassie and broke her heart years ago, but he is now a changed man looking to reconnect with her. Cassie was wounded by Luke and has no interest in reliving the pain again. As the story begins, Luke finagles his way back into Cassie’s life during her live App launch. She reluctantly lets him stay to save face, but where do they go from there?
The Meet Cute Reboot by Erin Lucy is a romantic comedy with serious themes. The book discusses drinking, cheating, divorce, trust, and forgiveness, to name a few. It was a fine read, but I found it a little edgy for my tastes.
I received a complimentary copy of this book by Erin Lucy and New Fable Press. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Can AI find your perfect love match? Does love deserve a second chance? Are we defined by our worst mistakes? Can someone really change? And why is the cupboard opening itself?
This passionate (closed-door) romance was beautiful and full of raw emotion - exploring the themes of forgiveness, healing, and redemption. The characters were complex and flawed (aren't we all?) - but ultimately lovable. I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put the book down until I reached the very happy ending.
Thank you Author Erin Lucy for the ARC! Cassie volunteers to let the "MatchAI" dating APP pick someone compatible with her. She is the CEO,after all. She is truly shocked when matched with her ex who cheated on her. Although Luke is the last person she would ever want to spend time with,Cassie does it for the sake of her APP becoming a success. Can their issues ever be overcome?Luke is a reformed cheater but honestly I really wanted a second chance for these two! Please get over the fact that he cheated and enjoy the story!
This was a quick read with some cute moments. A closed door, second chance romance that introduces AI matchmaking. Cassie's new matchmaking app matches her with her ex, Luke. Luke made a big mistake in their relationship, but he's had a life change and wants to make things right and start over with Cassie. There are some ups and downs as they navigate his past mistakes, but ultimately love and forgiveness wins out and they have their HEA.

This was a quick and cute read. This has second chance romance, miscommunication, serious topics, and AI. I was hooked right from the summary and I knew that this would be something that I would eat up in a heart beat. I've been ready to recommend this book before I even actually read it.
I loved the description of the book and found it to be unique. There were aspects of the story that were just too much for me. I wanted to like Luke and Cassie but they both fell a little flat for me. Luke's cheating and manipulating was talked about a lot throughout the book.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
interesting perspective Cassie and Luke are the Guinea pigs for an A.I. experiment for a second chance at love. Since I'm not a big fan of the digital world, I wondered how a computer program is supposed to relate to the facets of human feelings. Reading about the trial and error approach in this review copy was highly entertaining and isn't all well that ends well?
Love the complicated love story. Correcting mistakes, especially when everyone knows it can be difficult. Honesty and ghost cries are quite a mix. Cupid isn’t a real person, but works. I loved this wacky story
mmc is a serial cheater, he cheated on the fmc with 2 woman, cheated on the girlfriend after her, and only decided to change for girlfriend #3 who was the one who cheated on him ( you go girl) Paula's review has all the details
What an awesome, fun book! So many funny parts! Cupboard door, drunk mother moment, riding bike hoping for a ride home! Heartfelt moments and great chemistry! Fantastic read!
