Grant writing wasn’t part of Cassie Jameson’s pro-bono marketing contract with the nonprofit JoCo Water Project. But they all but guaranteed her cooperation when tattooed science teacher Lucas Bailey made the ask.
A hookup with the nonprofit’s hottest volunteer would violate her professional ethics, but working closely with Lucas on the grant is tempting Cassie to mix business with pleasure.
After six months of collaboration, Cassie and Lucas road trip across North Carolina to a college town in the Blue Ridge Mountains to present their grant proposal. Coinciding with spring break, Lucas is ready to blow off some steam and have a little wholesome fun in Boone, finally getting to know his grant writing partner better.
Mother Nature is not on their side, however, forcing them to make the drive in a major rainstorm, and throwing plenty of obstacles in their way. Do Cassie and Lucas make it to Boone with their mutual attraction intact or does their burgeoning connection get washed away in the floodwaters?
Let it Rain is a 9,000-word contemporary romance novelette that makes public infrastructure sexy.
Ariella is a former journalist, but uses “former” loosely. Her curiosity for all things is insatiable and research is her favorite part of any project.
She writes cozy contemporary and high stakes fantasy romances. Her work is swoony and open door absolutely not intended for readers who are under 18.
Someone once told her to write what you know so all her millennial protagonists are bisexual, neurodivergent, and live with chronic mental illness. They mostly have their life together and Ariella chronicles their coming-of-middle-age stories.
When she’s not writing, she teaches yoga and falls behind on laundry. She lives in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband, child, a collection of aging pets, and a flock of chickens that won’t stop tearing up the new plants in her flower garden.
Loved this debut novelette by up-and-coming romance author, Ariella Monti. The story is deliciously sensual at every level - from lush descriptions of backyard gardens and a raging river (lovely metaphor) to the intrigue of half-hidden tattoos & the jolt of seeing a familiar co-worker in their revealing nightwear.
All culminating in steamy action that Does Not Disappoint.
Monti gives us *all the feels* with this lovely short-but-intense story of two co-workers finally acting on their long-denied crush. I love discovering debut authors & am looking forward to reading more of her work!
This book was the perfect length for a fun a steamy read about two colleagues with a mutual attraction. Despite the length, you really get a good background and build up on their relationship and the timing on the movement from friends to lovers makes sense and doesn’t feel rushed. The hot bits were hot and the ending was perfect. Overall a great read to get in and enjoy!
Found this through Skye Kilaen’s newsletter. And I highly enjoyed! It’s super quick and short but also engaging. Who knew water management could be sexy? lol. Very clever segue to both a road trip AND only one bed. A little bit of historical meets contemporary. Nicely done. Also has some own voices going on in that the heroine is bi and neurodivergent and so is the author. :)
