Shuichi Shigeno (Japanese author profile: しげの秀一) is a manga artist, best known for the manga series Initial D. Shigeno has also created Bari Bari Densetsu, Dopkan, and Tunnel Nuketara Sky Blue ("First Love in Summer") all prior to the manga that would make him famous in 1995. In 1985, he received the Kodansha Manga Award in shōnen for Bari Bari Densetsu.

Finnished in a day and now i gotta wait till june for vol 6, where the story picks up and he starts really racing outside of Akina, also this one has the uptick in slice of life segments and theyre good and juicy iykyk

The pacing in this book is so insane. The art of Initial D is so dense but it’s so kinetic, it’s like you’re in the passenger seat while reading it. Emotional volume, need to hunt down the next volume.

Divorato in due giorni. Purtroppo sapevo già come andava a finire ma comunque sono rimasto angosciato. Anche per il plot nel mezzo, un pochino già previsto, ma averne la certezza è davvero triste.

Damn, poor Takumi. Bro took 2 major L’s this volume, he can’t catch a break. At least he’ll probably get some payback in the future with the upgraded Trueno.

Another solid volume - I still wasn’t super into the Takumi romance subplot, but it was kinda interesting here as a lead-in to his race with the EVO III. Hopefully in the next volume or so there’ll be a confrontation between him and the girl, but I don’t want them to get together at this point - an emotional confrontation and resolution with it ending in them both going their separate ways would be best, I think.

I don’t think the Emperors are anything to worry about either, cuz I know Ryosuke will clutch up for sure. Hope my boy Iketani can get more moments going forward though!!😭

I read the first 5 volumes in like a week, so they all blend together.


Welp I am caught up now. What am I going to do with myself?

Glad Mogi is back and that storyline has gotten quite interesting. Enjoyed the slice of life stuff. I feel like the balance has returned.

Bunta having more lore revealed about him is exciting. The build up to the 86 getting a more powerful engine. All so cool.

I'm so lucky that volume Five is where the current published omnibus ends because by the end of it, Takumi has lost everything, and it's a good stopping point for now. I am absolutely fascinated to see where the series goes. I'm so hyped to see the return from rock bottom.

With Vol 5 finished this one really ramped up the tension. The last volume had teased a major setback that was possibly coming for the lead and finally that paid off in this volume. There was also some drama with a side character, something that went back as far as the first volume, that finally came reintroduced itself and delivered on that front as well. It's in those moments of defeat that the story gets better.

As I was reading the entire manga, I notice that some scenes are a bit floppy and the characters are not that deep. Even the sexual references are way too much (maybe Shigeno-san was sometimes a bit too horny). Still a very good volume, the love story of Mako and Iketani is engaging despite wanting to give a slap in the face of Iketani face as a wake up call for being such and idiot and naive.

i won’t lie, the girl was driving me crazy bc i thought she was annoying but she was sexually groomed into thinking what she was doing was okay and im so angry that takami caught her right then. broke my heart.

Honestly the only problem I have with this series so far is the stuff outside of the races. I want to feel like these characters are real people, I want to know more about them. They are all such nothing characters. I want more.

With everything that's going on in this volume, I have to say that it's probably the best one so far.
